I really enjoy JRPGs and I don't know how fun this game is? I checked out 7 review sites including IGN, Gamespy, Gamespot, GAF, Dekko, and RPGfan. I can't seem to make a choice? My favorite review site, xbox360.IGN.com, gave it a 7.9. Has anyone tried this game who can say if the gameplay deserves a 8.5 if it were on PS2 or something.

Is it very good or should i spend it on something else? I am worried about buying a medicore game. I was suprised to see that Growlancer V is mediocre with a 6.5 at RPGfan.

I have put a few hours into it and am having a lot of fun, I also like JRPGS so our tastes may be very similar, it is not as good as Crisis Core but still the best JRPG on the 360 to date (until Lost Odyssey drops next year), so it's not a bad purchase and if you like those type games you will like this, great music, great art style, and cool storyline!

I like the games art style immensly. So if the PS3 version is on par\better I'll pick it up. Worth a lengthy rent at the very least.

....

I'm a sap for a great plot though (aren't we all with JRPG's?) so if the story sucks its a no go.

I haven't really heard much of this Eternal Sonata before.

It's in my collection now. I actually didn't feel like going anywhere, but I needed to go on a drive so i bought this game. Halo 3 is really good too, but I like JRPGs as much as first person shooters.

This game is incredible.

The art detail is incredible, the character design is perfect, the gameplay and transition periods are seamless, the battle system is flawless and perfect; solid to have it real time and turn based all at once... The story is great so far too...

I'm 8 hours into it... I'd give it a 9.2/10.

I think it's a top 3 game for the 360. But I'm a HUGE jrpg fan.

A little, short, kinda easy, a little bland.

And why do my fingers hurt?

Not a bad game, not that good IMO. probably because you have to digest so many characters in such a short time.

Again I don't like the fact it's geared towards western newbies, as simplified above.

8/10, better then BD, where at least there's no dying framerate, and generally interesting characters.

It's a repetitive and simple RPG.. If you want a decent gaming experience pick it up.. Some of the character's dialogue is kinda strange though. Like they didn't translate it very well or something. It was to the point where I would start chuckling at some of the awkward moments created by the characters and it wasn't at a comical point it would be at a serious point where I shouldn't have been laughing. But it was fun for a few days. And the Lasting appeal is there because you can go through the game again at a harder level of difficulty and collect more crap.

I will be getting it for my PS3 when it comes out, a friend of mine has it for his 360 and it's really good in an odd way. YOu should rent it first if you have questions about it.

When I saw the commercial for this game I seriously thought it was a ps2 game until I saw the end of it with the xbox360 logo. I'm just so used to these games being on the ps2 that I didn't realize how much sharper the graphics were in the commercial compared a ps2 game. Weird how your mind can play tricks on you.

Since its a jrpg, maybe you should rent it first and if you like it buy it? Since its going to have a lot of hours to it, you probably won't beat it in the time period your given for a rental so it wouldn't be a waste to buy it if you like it.

AAA game, buy it.

Or better yet, download the demo first if you can.

It will be really easy to tell if you like it then. Like the reviewers, I think Eternal Sonata is leaps and bounds better than Blue Dragon. It may be short, but I can't get tired of it.

It definitely deserves to be on the 360, though - the graphics are fantastic. The gameplay is pretty good if you like (almost) real-time combat in an RPG. Since you mentioned Growlancer, you are likely a big JRPG fan, so it may be a little to easy or simplistic for your tastes. But the story is great.

Not sure about that, there are way too many characters that don't get fleshed out through the game. Which is a problem.

And there's really only a couple of ways to fight almost all boss fights except the last game.

It's a simplified JRPG. Pretty good, but the meat is a little thin. I couldn't really play it in hard difficult because all they have is more HP, they didn't become much different, which was a sad "old" way.

I didn't find Game+ very interesting, and I have no achievement mentality at all.

Won't win any awards, but I'm glad it's better then some others I've played.

If you really need "next-gen" RPGs, then I'd say Eternal Sonata, for now, is your best bet. I can honestly say I like Eternal Sonata more than I like Blue Dragon, I don't know why. If not, then there are still a lot of good PS2 RPGs.

Eternal Sonata is good in almost all areas, except for the small fact that...well, if you are the type of person that crunches levels in RPGs, then you won't find the game too hard, and in some cases, repetitive. There are some really good concepts that were put into the game though, like the different abilities that you can use while in the sunlight versus in the dark, or how your abilities will deal different damage depending on the echos you have accumulated.

If you are thinking of getting this game just for the achievements, forget it. It won't be easy to get the most rewarding achievements. You will get some for finishing stages of the game, but the most rewarding ones require you to go trough the game a second time.

Best next-gen JRPG so far. Period.

The game is extremely easy, and the story isn't the best you'll ever come across. If you're looking for a game to just fill that JRPG void then I'd suggest at least renting it.

Overall the repetitive tapping and no major skill upgrades throughout the game kind of sucks. 4 item slots to play with, 1 for weapon, 1 for armor, 2 accesories doesn't make for a whole lot of tweaking of your characters. That and having 1 power move equipped for dark or light limits you some more.

Even though you're limited to what you can do, the game is extremely easy. You'll be killing things off before they can get a hit in, and they're supposed to be of the same level. Then a boss comes, and usually they aren't that hard either. Just have to make sure that you get the timed blocks down and you'll never, and I mean NEVER, die. Even so, I enjoy the art style and its not like it's a horrible game.

I am spending too much time on Blue Dragon and Halo 3 to try another game.

I strongly suggest you try Blue Dragon.

Try Lost Odyssey instead. Much more adult oriented JRPG...and my favorite next gen RPG so far.

I have ES on rental atm and I'm enjoying it. It is a bit too easy, I've already started avoiding some fights because I feel my level is a bit too high. I do really like the battle system though, and the way it gets harder as your party level increases while also giving you bonuses is pretty cool. Love the art-style. Story is a bit weird, considering Chopin is following you around in his supposed "dream-world" hitting stuff with a conductor's baton! :D

Eternal Sonata is unique, in that it's whole theme is based on music really. Most unique RPG i've played and I thoroughly enjoyed it, though for me it's only a game I would play through once unlike some other RPG's.
