Ok so I've looked to see if there is a thread with meadia functionality, but I have not found one.
My question is: will PS3 be able to connect my my PC so that I will be able to access media files, music, movies, pictures with the PS3? 360 can do it with Windows XP for all the file except video which need to have media center PC. Anyone have the answer?

Well, I'm not sure about hooking it up to a PC, but it does have plenty of USB2 interfaces. You could, in theory, put a video or whatever onto one, and then plug it into the PS3. I would be very surprised if it didn't have a good set of codecs.

I'm not talking about USB connection. Referring more towards the CAT 5 network connection. I know 360 is a microsoft product, but there are other media devices that are able to network with the pc and access files on it.
I'd love to see an interface that would make most pc files accessable so that you can actually make the PA3 the center media hub for the house rather than the PC in the bed room. These days it seems like the living room or dens are completely quiet while we watch shows and listen to music on our PC, not because it sounds or looks better, but because it's more convenient to access.

if it does it has to fallow drm regulations.
which means it would need to be an extender and fallow the same features.
as for media support...it is yet to be seen what it supports but if you are willing to pay extra for the dash linux suppors few codecs depending on the build.
psp supports 1 video codec...i think they added a second propriatary codec to stop any copied games from running in gta lc
but most part its going to be quite limited vc1 which is hd codec for wmvhd is supported i know for a fact because they are paying m$ the rights to use it. but that may verry well be just for the wmvhd movie format for the drive.
media is not just something that can be widely supported with no rights management in the HD aera.
i am intersted to see what happens.

well if im not which i have been lol in the past but i think really i know for one sony would not put all them usb ports on the ps3 and call it a supercomter for nuthing i mean if you have all the things u need get on the net i would believe you wouldnt need to hook up ur ps3 to ur pc where im think it will be possible the psp can do it with media center so im guessin they would not call the ps3 a media center unless it could do evenhing and i mean evenything a computer can but and probly more but ownly time will tell but i have faith in sony that they will be able to do it

I'm surprised that there is not a lot of information on this topic from Sony. Microsoft made it clear early on what it's intent was with the 360, but Sony has been quite vague in my opinion.
As far as DRM goes, I don't think that it would really be an issue for the PS3 as the information would only be streaming over a home network kinda like those wifi enabled dvd players for your livingroom that have just surfaced.

I would imagine that you could access files on your PC hard-drive like your .wmv .jpg and .mpg files. How much functionality there is though is unknown at this time.

I think SONY will allow you to store most of your music, video files etc on the hard drive... You will be able to access the net therefore downloading any files directly to your PS3... This allows it to become the media HUB for the living areas.... This is just speculation but its not impossible.. hopefully it will be able to play itunes music etc.....

Chances of supporting itunes downloads directly are slim to none. Apple likes their 'closed' format - it's a big bargaining chip against the RIAA every time they ask for price hikes. That being said, I would not be at all surprised if it supported streaming MP3 and ATRAC files, along with most open standards. If the PS3 DOES come with linux, expect a port of VLC within a month of launch - which supports most major codecs, as well as a server that can transcode files from one format to another on the fly :) http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

Yes u'll be able to transfer the files but remember after uve movied the old files. Any new ones u can save straight to ur Ps3 through its web browser. You wont need the PC your PS3 can take its place.
