There have been many posts on this, and many questions have been asked but not answered. I dont claim to be an expert on telivision sets, but I have done a lot of research into the perfect telivision.

This is the Dell 24 inch, it is capable of 1080P, costs around $1000. It has a built in 9 in one card reader and 4 USB ports. 15-Pin D-Sub / 24-Pin DVI-D / S-Video / Composite Video / Component Video. Unfortunately no HDMI.

Look into CRT monitors if you're a real gamer. They have faster refresh, better color definition, and higher resolution capability in general.

HD has been around a lot longer than people think.

Who wants to buy a TV for 3,000-4,000 dollars. I sure do not.

Well since HD is going to be mandatory within two or three years, you are going to have to buy one eventually...

We as consumers have this amazing ability to completely forget that we have the ability to drive the prices down on whatever product we want. We simply say, "Look. We, the people, are tired of paying too much. So we're not going to buy anything until you lower the price. Say goodbye to your profits. Say hello to losses. Huge ones."

It's really not that difficult.

No mandatory meaning only HD signals are going to be sent out for tv's...

Your regular tv cannot receive HD signals which means in two or three years enless you have a HD tv or little box to convert the signals (which wont look as well is regular tv after converting i think) you will not be able to watch tv..period..

there are antennas and devices that will allow you to pick up the HD signal on a regular sdtv.

"perfect" isn't exactly the word....
"decent" is more appropriate

"perfect" HDTVs cost at around the $3000 - $5000 range. and just because you can't afford it doesn't mean that it's not the best or that it sucks. you get what you pay for. and yes there are a lot of differences between different HDTVs. you should look into samsung HDTVs.

mika a lot of people would be willing to pay $3000 - $4000 for an HDTV. that is.. if they had the money.

You can't go wrong with any one of these. They all are 1080p and have HDMI inputs. The Sony SXRD series has the best picture of any tv I've ever seen!

Tom i have that Samsung HDTV. That very same one.

it is very well worth its price. playing games on it, watching football in HD, watching movies in HD. we also have a rotel system so we can watch movies in DTS and play games in 5.1 surround.

so take it from someone who actually owns an HDTV. it's worth it. you'll notice a big difference.

Half wrong. Digital cable, or an analog-to-digital convertor box, will be mandatory. And not until '09.

Yeh but how much does the samsung cost?

The sony was $3999 and the JVC $4999. Couldn't see a price for the samsung.

I hoping that Sony and Toshiba's forthcoming Cell based screens will be cheaper or they'll find a way to make forthcoming SED displays cheaper.

You'll still be able to use PS3, it just wont look as good as it would in HD (unless Sony fix the mistake that MS made with the downscaling process)

if i can play ps3 on this monitor, it will be the best solution for all my problems.

now for my question... the sony grand wega 50" XBR-1 is a true 1080p is it not? it will actually project things in 1080p apposed to those lying sack of crap tv's?Yes, you are right, this is pretty much the first true 1080p television series, the SXRD series...

and they cost 4000+
so... I would suggest waiting or using a monitor until cheaper models come about..

there are LCoS ones, but they use some special "wobbling" technique which basically uses a 540p and somehow turns it into 1080p by physically bending the light rapidly...
apparently some people can see it, and these TV's don't accept 1080p signals, they upconvert from 720p only.
the SXRD does accept 1080p however, and has dedicated 1080p displaying...
it really displays 6 million pixels if you think about it ( 2 million X 3 seperate colour chips) so it's pretty much perfect image, and if you've seen one on display, your *jaw will probably drop, it's just beautiful and I hope there is one in every home eventually.

Also, you will need HDMI to watch Blu-Ray Movies, and possibly to play games in the future, so don't waste your money on a TV that lacks inputs!
DVI is digital, but I don't think it has the special connection needed for DRM stuff.

i read some information about hdtv etc.

my thoughts

i buy this dell monitor. when i connect the ps3 with this monitor, its possible, that i only get a black screen, because, this dell has no hdcp.

now i found

http://www.spatz-tech.de/spatz/dvi_hdcp.htm

my theory:
ps3 over hdmi-dvi adapter on this converter. and from there with a vga-dvi adapter to the monitor.

Me and my girl got a 20in Viewsonic HDTV for like $500 early this summer. It supports 1080i and it looks great. However, I'm not even touching another TV (getting a living room TV that is, the HDTV is in our bedroom) until Sony comes out with a Cell TV that will support heavy framerates for gaming. I'd like to get a plasma TV with 1080p support than can do at least 80fps, but it's going to take a year or two. I don't mind paying 5g to get a good tv, but I dont think the technology Im looking for is out yet.

To me, an HDTV right now would be a huge waste of money because the technology is still advancing blindingly fast. I really would caution against getting an HDTV until late 2006 or 2007 simply because 1080i TVs will be laughable by then and 1080p TVs are super expensive right now. The technology is still advancing too rapidly to warrant a big purchase. I'm just trying to put some wisdom in your ear.

Hence why you can kill 2 birds with 1 stone and get a better and cheaper PC monitor that can give you the high rex with the low cost and still be able to use it for your PC and PS3.
