NEW YORK (April 29, 2007) -- On Draft Weekend 2007, the biggest tremors in the football world came from a trade between the New England Patriots and Oakland Raiders.
Randy Moss (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/12576) has become a Patriot after New England sent a fourth-round pick in Sunday's draft to Oakland for the mercurial and maddening wide receiver. Moss passed his physical after arriving in New England on Sunday morning, and now Patriots quarterback Tom Brady (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/187741) will be passing him the ball next season in one of the most dynamic and electric quarterback-wide receiver combinations that has ever played in the NFL.
Moss already has agreed to dramatically restructure his contract, which is scheduled to pay him $9.75 million this coming season. New England was the one and only place Moss would agree to take a reduced contract, and he did so knowing that he would have the chance to win a Super Bowl. With the offseason that New England has had, no team in football has a better chance.
Moss also comes to New England with the warning that, as Bill Parcells used to say, the light is yellow and ready to turn red. The Patriots have notified Moss that under no circumstance will they tolerate any of the transgressions that have marked his career. The first controversial incident that Moss is involved in will be his last. The Patriots insist they will release him.
But now that they have him, they are thrilled. Brady is said to be very excited upon learning the news that his team had agreed to a trade with Oakland. Patriots coach Bill Belichick feels the same way as Brady. After spending previous seasons lacking a big-play target, the Patriots now have a plethora of them -- none any bigger than Moss.
How the trade evolved is a story itself. Ongoing trade talks from throughout the offseason continued Friday and intensified Saturday night after the draft when the Raiders called the Patriots and got New England to sweeten its offer of what had been a sixth-round pick. New England agreed to trade a fourth-round pick to Oakland.
The trade caps a remarkably and busy offseason for the Patriots, who have repositioned themselves as the team to beat in the AFC and the NFL. They have added former Ravens linebacker Adalius Thomas (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/187661), former Bengals cornerback Tory James (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/3694), former Dolphins running back Sammy Morris (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/187612), former Dolphins wide receiver Wes Welker (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/493735), former Eagles wide receiver Donte Stallworth (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/302227) and former Bengals wide receiver Kelley Washington (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/396119).
Oakland was in a position where it had to trade Moss. It could not afford to pay him his base salary while also signing No. 1 overall pick JaMarcus Russell to a contract that is expected to include about $30 million in guaranteed money. Plus, Raiders coach Lane Kiffin had been anxious to deal Moss and start over fresh, able to implement his own ideas with his own players.

Your team is catching some flack for giving up all the draft picks for that last guy they picked. Hopefully he pans out.

Moss has lost quite a bit but still is a good WR that will more than likely put up huge #'s seeing he finally has a decent Qb throwing to him again and for a 4th ,straight up steal just like the 49ers getting Darrel Jackson for just a 4th

Pretty sick trade for the Pats, Moss is big time. Don't let his numbers over the last 2 years fool you. Brady + Moss is gonna be insane.

He's this wideout that was good on the Vickings...then something happened...something horrible happened.
the guy is way past his prime, and it shows by the fact that the Raiders got sooooo little for him.

Randy doesn't want to be in a Raider Uniform. Moss will show how past his prime he is when he and Brady hook up for huge numbers. Who to stop now? Moss or Stallworth, or the other receivers. Pick your poison. And only for a 4rth.....Wow! Championship!

Past his prime? I think he'll be motivated to prove himself like when he was initially drafted. Mort reported earlier this morning, that Moss recently ran a 4.29 40, he's still blazing fast. Brady to Moss is going to be deadly.

So no one here has seriously factored in the fact that the Raiders shipped him away for a 4th round pick in which they drafted some no name CB...and they also drafted a QB with a tank for an arm...that doesn't say anything to anyone?
The man dogged it with the Vickings, got shipped to Oakland, promised he was a new man and that the Raiders were a great opportunity, and then mid season decided to basically not show up anymore. May I remind you that a similiar player by the name of...Owens...was given the same attention as the savior for Dallas, that he would turn a new leaf...and we all know how that has ended up. People don't change, especially if that person is a self-centered aging (30 years old) wideout whos numbers continue to drop every year.
Call me crazy, but if I remember correctly, the Patriots were best when they were a team, not when they had stand out stars who cared about their numbers.

Although I agree with you with some of what you said. Let me bring up Corey Dillon who was a problem child of Cincinnati. Everyone said the exact same thing about him, and how he was going to cause problems. And look how he turned out to be a REAL team player. I believe the same will go for Moss. Only the season will tell.

True, but Dillon only lasted what, two years in New England unti last year where he was a no show compared to their rookie. If anything Moss is a one year fix, long term though, talking 4-5 years, he is not the answer.

I honestly believe he will be a 3-4 Patriot. Dillon got hurt too much last season, but then again so did Maroney.

All I can say to Bill Belichick and the Patriots is "enjoy the headache." I hate the Belichick and the Patriots with a passion, so it's going to be pretty amusing to see the drama unfold by Week 6 or 7. ;)

Lance Briggs is an idiot, plain and simple. I don't know where he got the idea that he should make more than Urlacher. :?
In any case, the headaches won't keep either team out of the playoffs. If worst comes to worst, you can just ask the Eagles for advice on the matter. http://www.cobaltss.net/forums//images/smilies/icon_nuts.gif

Moss just reconstructed his contract to play for the Patriots. People are forgetting what the Patriots organization did to Corey Dillon in turning him around. You have too many leaders on the Patriots that will get in Moss's face if he does something dumb. Moss wants to win, and this is his chance to get that Super bowl ring.

Ooooh okay. I heard he might be out of the job in the NFL. Was a little ironic that he was doing the commentating for the NFL Draft, but makes sense for Green Bay to show interest in him.
