this is an outrage, last night man utd Vs roma at the stadio olympico (olympic stadium) there was a big riot first the roma fans chucked things over the plastic fence and the united fans threw the items back so then the police charged through the plastic fence and started whacking the man united supporters with steel Batons (that hurts) and knocked out 40 people 18 were rushed to hospital and missed out on several hundred pounds by leaving before half time, this continued when rooney scored a crucial away goal, then the violence excalated again when roma scored to make it 2-1,but still the violence carried on to a near abandonage after the final whistle united fans had to wait 90 mins more until they were released from the ground

in all a very shocking time, this was the second time that united had nearly been killed in europe this season

Yeah I think this was to be expected, Roma fans are crazy, I m Italian and they are well known for their violence. I feel sorry for because the police took it out on you guys and I saw some people getting the crap beaten out of the Man Utd supporters.

I think it was good they kept you for another 90 mins though, Roma fans would have waited for you. I ll be honest I m surprised no one died.

Heres some more info on it for anyone else who doesnt exactly know whats going on:

Eighteen Manchester United fans required hospital treatment following violent scenes both in and outside the Olympic Stadium in Rome and Uefa are to launch an investigation into the events of Wednesday evening.

Trouble flared around the ground before the UEFA Champions League quarter-final, but the scenes in the stadium were utterly shameful.

Missiles were hurled as fans taunted each other and the Italian police drove Manchester United supporters back with batons.

United fans were kept behind for 90 minutes after Roma's 2-1 win as a precaution, but 18 of the travelling contingent needed hospital treatment.

"Eighteen Manchester United fans needed medical attention at a local hospital," a spokesman for the police department in Rome said.

"Sixteen of the fans were discharged while two of the fans will remain in hospital overnight. However, they are not in serious condition.

"Two Roma fans were also taken to hospital.

"We will continue to monitor the situation, but we are hoping there will be no further clashes overnight."

Uefa have confirmed they are awaiting the report from their delegate, but their communications director William Gaillard stressed they had no hold over the Italian police's handling of the affair.

"We will be waiting for the delegate's report and the control and disciplinary body will be looking at the television images to see the dynamics of what actually happened," said Gaillard. "In Italy, the police are in charge of security in the stadium, stewards have nothing to do with it.

"We will also have to see what role Manchester United fans had in the incidents because they had some problems in Lens earlier this year."

United were fined by Uefa last month for trouble involving their fans during the last-16 first leg against Lille

Former Fifa referee Anders Frisk was disappointed with the actions of the Italian police towards Manchester United fans during their UEFA Champions League quarter-final first leg defeat to Roma.

Frisk, who attended the game as a spectator, is no stranger to incidents at the Stadio Olimpico having refereed matches against Dynamo Kiev and Galatasaray where trouble flared in the stands.

"It was a very bad experience for me to be back in the Olympic Stadium and this time witnessing something that was not good for the game of football," Frisk told Sky Sports News.

"I think the approach from the Italian police was (to blame), in my opinion. My feeling from the beginning was that they were very close to the United supporters.

"Maybe what started it was something being thrown and I think the Italian police reacted very, very aggressively towards one or two incidents and this is what caused everything to flare in my opinion."

Frisk, who is promoting feelfootball.com alongside Patrick Vieira and Rudi Voller, also criticised the security staff at the stadium.

He continued: "I went as a normal fan and when I went through the gates I was not searched at all so of course if you don't search people they will bring in bottles and things to throw at each other so that was a major mistake."

Frisk was forced to abandon the match between Roma and Dynamo Kiev in September 2004 after being hit by an object thrown from the crowd.

However, the Swede does not think Wednesday's referee Herbert Fandel ever considered calling a halt to the game, which Roma won 2-1.

"I don't think he really had that in his mind," Frisk said. "If I could read his body language when he was out on the pitch he was very concentrated on doing a good job.

"I didn't think he had any communications with the representatives from security about abandoning the match.

"I think it was actually better to continue this match because if we had stopped this match maybe the conflict would have been even more extensive."

Meanwhile, Frisk has called for improved communication throughout the game to avoid future incidents, and believes the lack of trouble inside English stadiums can be attributed to this.

He added: "It's about how you communicate with people, it's important for coaches, for players, for referees, for police and for fans to make the right communications because if you don't then you will have conflict in the match."

It was shameful and it wasn't as if it was just the United supporters doing it the Roma fans were worse and the police did nothing to them.. Im a United supporter and the whole game was really pathetic you got Totti front flipping over Scholes to get him a second yellow card amongst other things. Still when the Roma fans get to Manchester it will be a completely differant story and i honestly believe we haven't heard the last of this... bring on Old Trafford!

Maybe this is un sportsman like but i hope one of our players scores the winning goal by diving to get a free kick or penalty that would be completely poetic justice against a team like Roma tbh.

Tsk Tsk. Sounds like Italy's fans to me, not to mention out behaviour. But Italy must be considered the worse by now.

Tonight im going to old trafford and if there's any trouble then united will probably go through regardless of the result, even so we only need a goal to go through

The best performance in all history for a team in quarter finals for a team. And most of the players of Roma are World Champions, yeah right. Come on United, go for the treble.

Wow, just got home and watched they highlights. AS Roma looked like fools. Totally humiliated, Serie A is pretty much in shame after this match. 7 goals is completely unacceptable by any team this far into the championship. I couldn't imagine the players facing the fans after a defeat that bad.

Well, baring any major upset at Anfield tomorrow, there will be 3 English teams in the Semi-finals with one spot guaranteed to one of the English sides. Does that show domination or what?

Wonderful , magical , scintilating . Its only a few words i can think of to describe Man Utd's performance today .
No , Roma wasn't bad , United was just too good on the day and that is what they do : ATTACK , ATTACK , ATTACK . It has been the cornerstone of Utd's philosophy since the day Sir Alex Ferguson took over the reigns at Old Trafford .
 Playing a 5 man midfield of Rooney , Giggs , Ronaldo with Carrick and Fletcher just behind them was a masterstroke by Ferguson . Trust me guys , you don't want Rooney , Giggs and Ronaldo running at your defence .

UNITED FOREVER .

OMG, last night made me proud to be a Red Devil. if we can keep playing like that there is not a team in the world that could beat us.
United always bounce back from a defeat and that was a massive bounce back.

It changes over time, but English clubs will dominate Europe for sometime now, we had Liverpool win it a couple of years ago, Arsenal runners up last year and now another English club certain to be in the final. I m certain that it ll be an all English final.

Man UTD are too strong for Bayern or Ac Milan

Come on United, now is Milan we have to show that we are for big things and maybe face Chelsea in the final of the champions league, in the FA Cup and the penultimate match of the season, and win all!!!!!!!!!!!
