GRINDHOUSE
Directed by Quentin Tarantino + Robert Rodriguez
Whew. That sums it up right there. I caught a sneak preview of the movie earlier tonight, and wow. It's one hell of a ride.
We start with Planet Terror, which is one of the stupidest-yet-funny movies I've seen in a long time. Everything is cheezy in this one, but it's meant to be that way. It does it well. It's hilarious alot of times. Rose McGowen and Freddy Rodriguez do well, but all the acting is soooo overblown. (Again, it's meant to be like that). Bruce Willis actually does have a role more so than a cameo. He truly rocks this movie.
Packed in with this are the fake trailers. My favorite is from Rob Zombie, "Werewolf Women of the SS". It's stupid, disgusting, and just flat out insane. Nicolas Cage is fantastic in this. He's some crazy dictator guy who's just hilarious. Plus for the pervs, nude all around. The rest are, of course, stupid. And funny. Eli Roth's is freaking gross, while Edgar Wright's is hilarious. There's one in particular that was great with action. The "Machete" trailer. Loved Danny Trejo in that. Good stuff.
Then after parading through this, we hit QT's talk-fest Death Proof. And holy dear jesus did he knock the ball out of the park. It's very talkative, but for those who know Quentin Tarantino, he has some of the best dialouge ever by a writer. Kurt Russell owns the screen. He's a phsyco. He's funny. He's awesome. [Most of] the girls are very hot. Once through all the talk, it gets to...
THE BEST CAR CHASE IN A FILM. EVER.
This will go down in history. It truly defeats some movies like The Italian Job (Original) and Bullitt. Of all the movies I've seen with car chases, this is the all time greatest. It's lasts a good while, and is totaly worth waiting for. I mean, it's realistic as well. None of the crazy junk, real stuff. And you'll love it too.
Overall, you probably will never see anything like it again. This is a one of a kind masterpiece. In the spring hype, Grindhouse beats 300 in terms of living of to the hype. It probably won't win Oscars. It might not do well at the Box Office. Alls I know is: It's a damn good time. The funnest you'll have at the movie theatre for times to come.

This Friday. I luckily got to the sneak preview. It phones at above 3 hours. I really did love it. It's not that it's a "Departed" great film, acting, story, etc.
It's how fun it is to watch. It has some crap acting and stupid story, but it's all fun. And when it comes down to it, that's what really matters.

lol and you happen to be smarter than some of us older folks, freaky.:pale I got fooled once with a girl that looked like she was 21 but actually 17(or something close to it since she and her friends we using fake ID's) and she got to see a R-rated movie. One thing I did learn though, if you have a mustache and a deep voice your good to go in seeing movies.

Yeah same, though I did see Blades of Glory, uber smexy ice skaters ftw.

There are special showings just about any where, you just have to look in select showings for cities you may live in though.

I can't wait for this movie...and finally a movie that will shut up all those people who are hailing 300 as the greatest movie ever lol.
I'm hearing mixed reviews on RR's movie, but everyone is loving QT's movie...of course, he doesn't make bad movies.
If you've never seen a RR or QT movie then you might not get this movie...especially if you've never seen a QT movie (minus Kill Bill which isn't a good rep of how he does most of his movies).

Extremely cheesy. Probably not as bad as that absurd showdown moment FDTD, though.
Death Proof = No cheezines here.

I plan on seeing it today, I can see how it will have some crap acting and such, but as DOGG said: It's a damn good time. That is what I want! Just to be excited in the movie theatre and above all just enjoy everything going on without having to watch a complex film. Just mindless fun.

Well, I saw it...I absolutely loved the previews and emulation of the old double feature thing.
I really enjoyed the first part. I REALLY REALLY liked Planet Terror. But I actually hated the second movie though...it was incredible boring because it was mostly useless, boring, and non-interesting dialogue. Just girls sitting around a table talking for 20 damn minutes. The Chase was a let-down and the character of "Stuntman Mike" was a let-down as well.

I watched it this morning, and I plan to watch it agian tommorow.
I enjoyed both Planet Terror and Death Proof, but Death Proof takes the cake in my book. The dialogue and characters were simply superb, and the ending was just flat out awesome. I really liked what he went for, he did a movie that could have been done with a low budget and 70's technology. Thats what made it so damn good in my book.
I would give Planet Terror a 4/5 and Death Proof a 5/5

It has a fairly odd feeling, yea. :|
I knew there was a major flaw in this, and it's Death Proof entirely. Although some amazing chases and crashes, they talk, and talk, and talk, about stuff that just doesn't matter. I think Stuntman Mike was a bit underused, and they made him look like a big girl there at the end. I now understand why most reviews say that Death Proof kills the pace that Planet Terror set. After the fun filled movie and great faux trailers, you hit a bit of a snore fest. Tarantino's witty dialouge gets old.

Brilliant, brilliant films! They both lived up to my expectations. Planet Terror was the B horror movie it was supposed to be, and Death Proof was the phenomenally placed dialogue car chase movie it was supposed to be. Death Proof takes it for me as well. The car chase made me sweat, it was so intense. I loved Russel's character, and the girls were great, and hot. The black chick reminded me of a female version of Sam Jackson in Pulp Fiction :)
I understand that Death Proof slowed things down, but it didn't phase me one bit. I was with some friends who hated Death Proof for that reason. But they're idiots and hate dialogue and couldn't see through the movie for what it really was.

Grindhouse is a total throw back to classic cult movie nights in small private theaters (which were called Grindhouses)... its awesome!! I have many classic movies like this in my collection. this is a mainstream one trying to be like those others but with a big budget... well done too though! very good movie(s)

I have no problem with dialogue, but Death Proof just had mindless, uninteresting, and boring dialogue most of the time. "Stuntman Mike" was a pansy who actually couldnt drive worth crap---but I was really expecting ths character to be crazy awsome. The car chases, honestly, were not that exciting...actually pretty predictable. Death Proof was just an enormous letdown for me, it just got too boring too fast and the chase couldnt make up for it.
Planet Terror on the other hand, was amazing in my book(I dont actually have a book like Stuntman Mike :P lol). I loved the action in Planet Terror. It was funny, action-packed, over the top, excessively gory, and just EXTREMELY entertaining. I enjoyed damn near every minute of that movie. It got me so pumped and ready for the next one...but Death Proof ruined the movie experience for me. :(

Death Proof was superior to Planet Terror in every single way, people say Planet Terror was moreso of a "grindhouse" flick than Death Proof... but they couldn't be more wrong. A big part of these grindhouse films were their low budgets and cheaply done effects, and that is where Planet Terror dropped the ball. I think the movie looked to good from a technical standpoint, and had to impressive of CG. Although good it totally ruined the vibes I was expecting.
Death Proof on the other hand looked as if it had no budget, the film interesting characters. The dialogue was there to give the characters some life, and make you feel for them (wether it be posotive or negative feelings). The useless dialogue is QT's trademark, and I loved it in all of his other movies and Death Proof was no different.
Death Proof was superior both script wise and authenticity wise in my book. Lets be honest, the script of Planet Terror was not complicated by any standards. Any script writer would have been able to come up with it.
I think people really missed the meaning of Death Proof...

Planet Terror doesn't belong in a Grind house,Death Proof has the title, characters and plot down, and was a great movie,Planet Terror was ok,but I was more interested in mah bucket of popcorn and ICEE

I guess if you want to compare them in authenticity, Death Proof wins...but for me the problem is I just didnt enjoy watching Death Proof. It just wasnt entertaining for me.
Planet Terror wasnt serious and wasnt suppose to have a great script, movies at that time didnt have amazing scripts anyway. Planet Terror above all else was an entertaining movie.
I went to the movie hoping for over the top wacky action from the movie, I got that from Planet Terror, but not from Death Proof. It doesnt matter if it was more authentic to me, it just wasnt as fun.

Planet Terror:Action from start to finish, that movie had explosion, women owning zombie-like creatures and Rose Mcgowan was stupendous with that rifle. Made me wish she was part of my pirate team lol. "Useless Skill Number 1: for those who think Planet Terror didn't belong in Grindhouse definitely needs to see more Robert Rodriguez films. It was made part of Grindhouse even if it was over the top but it was meant to do is to give the audience action and it delivered.
Deathproof: A somewhat humourestic light into how many of us hated the characters in the beginning to the point that when they died we had no other reaction other then "**** yeah about ******* time.* It pretty much setup what the great car chase they had in store latter on. I did like the plugin of me when Rosario Dawson said "What makes me so Uncool.." Oh yeah lovin that part.
Extra:The Commercials were hilarious: Don't, Machete, and Thanksgiving just to name the few were so funny and random in a sense. Kind of wish they made commercials like that (not necessarily exaggerated persay) nowadays.
Overall: 9/10 -> thanksgiving with turkey loving (short but sweet) made me a very happy camper lol.

Planet Terror was the ****. However with the over all theme of a 'grindhouse' movie; I think that Death Proof was a little out of it's place. Just too much talking in it, not to say it wasn't a good movie; just it didn't feel like it belonged.
P.S. I walked 5.33 mi to get to the closet theater. It wasn't fun.

Planet Terror = awesome throwback to old school classic zombies = awesome.
Death Proof = throwback to classic revenge films and road movies from America's golden years of cinema = crap.
Death Proof was so awesome at first, I loved his character, so bad ***, so cool.... then he turns into a big ***** for NO reason at all and he loses?!!?!!??!? I wanted to walk out of the theater... that ****ing sucked ***!!! they took the coolest character in long time and ruined him half way through the movie.
****ing sucked ***.

I saw the movie again several days after my first visit. I even enjoyed Death Proof more the second time around. I could follow the dialouge a bit better, and my connection with the movie worked out better. Planet Terror gave me the same effect as the first time I saw it. So in my opinion, the second (and probably third, fourth,e tc) times you see Death Proof, the better it gets!
Oh yeh, and the soundtracks both kill!

I think that both movies were very good. I enjoyed Planet Terror a little bit more because of how over the top it was. I loved Death Proof because it was classic Tarentino. The films were completely different and I appreciated what both of them did together. The trailers inbetween the movies were funny and payed omage to classic horror films. This movie was cut and filmed just as classic B movies which I also loved. The acting was very good especially Kurt Russel I thought. I think that this is a movie that people who love the horror movie genres would love.

Yeah ..... YES! EXACTLY. My girlfriend and my buddy who I went to see it with liked how it ended and how it went but they both agreed it would be such a better movie if he maintained his awesome character and got to kill the chicks in the end. I mean... that was just so awesome.... pullin the lights on at the last second before he hits them.... then he goes after the next girls... it was brilliant until he gets hurt and then turns into a *****. I know thats the intention of QT there (obviously) but I hated it, I went from absolutely loving Death Proof to just hating it, when it comes out (both movies on one disc) im just going to stop playing Death Proof right after he kills the girls in the 1st care because the rest was pure ****.
