I mean, none of this crap that were seeing here right now. no young jeezy,no young buck, no young dro, no young anything. STOP THIS ****. IT AIN'T NO HIPHOP. IT'S CRAP.
I remember when you didn't need a million dollar beat in your song to have it in the top 50.
I remember the time where you had to say more than 5 words in the track in order to call it a track. (Dj unk new song, forgot the name.)
I remember a time where you didn't have to yell out your name of your gang or you crew in every single song just because you have nothing to say. (Mike Jones)
So who here thinks that true HipHop/Rap will make a come back anytime soon? or will it ever.

When hip hop first came out, it was something differnt from rock. Nut now its just the same old crap in a new version, some artist like xzibit continue to expand while others dont. Now you have lil everyone and dr nobody etc... and its just the same old song sung in a new way. The sad thing is rock is starting to turn also, i mean hip hop is good if you just have artists like emenem or xzibit but then you throw in crappy artists like lil nobody and its crap, and thats all you hear on the radio.
Its happening to rock as well, i mean you look at a online rock store and the first title you see is freaking fall out boy and that is not rock at all, and people listen to it and say "rock sucks" Its not just them either there is alot of emo bands now thats its redicously annoying.

never, no seriously...never.
well, maybe when they run out of famous old rock songs to sample and a few come through the cracks and show some actual musical talent.
I don't watch MTV or listen to the radio so I really don't know how bad its gotten, but a lot of my friends say its gotten pathetic. VH1 must be foaming at the lips for all the Behind the Music episodes they are about to get once all these "artists" blow all their money.

i shake my head at this statement..brainiac, the stuff you listened to back in the day that was actually good WAS hip hop..RAP music as you call it is what we're left with now..
tonce upon a time in the community (young black, white, puerto rican , and any other color that felt the call) created something called hip hop..
more or less,. the Hip hop trinity: b-boys= breakdance graphers =graffiti , turntablist +emcees= rappers dj's
that doesn't exist anymore, especially since rap by itself became such a commercial and lucrative matter, they forget the b-boys that used to break to their joints, or the graph artisit who would put themselves and their favorite emcess on the L train..
most of these so called rappers (nursery rhymers= this is why i'm hot) from young joc to buck could even tell you who cool herc was, or why he was so important to the very thing they get fed off of..
there was a time when hip hop music was telling the story of the streets, the best emcee , the best party spot, or what ever situation you and your crew were familiar with (hell a lot of artisit were from the burbs, not the hood) but now, dudes just RAP about bull****, and the youth wanna emulate it..they see the flash and glitter, and their favorite emcee talks about street cred and being REAL and getting shot and selling crack..guess what little tyrone wants to be when he grows up?
as long as emcees keep spitting that bull****, we won't see a change, there's no art to the artform anymore, just wanna be hard dudes with a little bit of street cred (streed cred= messing up and got sent to the bing for trafficking, or shot a couple of times over gang related nonsense) trying to earn a buck off their exxagerated life stories.

well said, its gone from callsic cats like soundgarden, Smashing pumpkins, pearl ajm and alice in chains to garbage like fallout boy and dashboard confessionals..i can't listen to the so called "alternative rock stations anymore..especially when their idea of good alternative is maroon 5.

Come to AZ we still have one good radio station left, 98 KUPD, they play nothing but good music 90 percent of the time and on weekends they even play heavy metal. Music like disturbed, godsmack, metallica, and megadeth.
We had like 5 stations that did it but 3 of them went to crap and then the other is completely oldies, which isnt bad, but im not a fan of alot of the stuff they play. :)
This station makes fun of fall out boy and all those crap bands lol its funny to listen to them. They will never play music like that ever.

Ive noticed this. Every song is just a cathcy beat and some guy with NO voice/tune talking about his cars/girls/materials.
Hip Hop is dead. Rock has been sucking lately. I think we have to go back to techno.
This new hip hop crap is HUGELY popular at my school. The girls constantly try to memorize every word and yell it at the top of their lungs in the hallways and the guys dress like those clowns during the dances. Sad, just sad becuase the main demographic of hip hop lately is preppy white kids.

Well Redman's new album just got out;)
I've just bought it though, so I don't know if it's any good. But I think real hiphop will come back, or atleast one album with real album will come in september, where Redman release Muddy Waters 2, in that album he will go back to old-school beats.

If you watch what's been happening intently you'll probably notice that slowly, some form at least, of true hip hop is making a comeback, very slowly.
People are getting slightly tired of the bubblegum rap in my opinion, and some are looking for stuff with a bit more substance. Thus we have Young Buck (who isn't really that bad compared to the other afformentioned 'rappers'), Nas, Redman and The Clipse all making hot albums, amongst others.
I think mainstream rap will go into a new rennassiance of dope music in maybe 2 to 3 years, I can already see the underground is slowly dropping off and becoming very prebuilt and forced, and blurring the lines between mainstream and underground both musicwise and business wise.
so I'll give a rough guess of 2010 for a return of some form of majority 'real' rap.

Rap is the actual music, where as Hip-Hop refers to the culture such as b-boying,graffiti spraying, and turn tablism.
Rap music is far from dead. There are so many artist out there with talent it's amazing. The only people who say Hip-Hop is dead are the ones who helped kill it (props to Nas for that one).
When you have Rappers such as K-OS, O.C, Jedi Mind Tricks, Common, Nas, Jean Grae, Z-Ro, Little Brother, Rhymefest, Kanye West, Zion-I, MF Doom, The Roots, Devin The Dude, Cunninlynguists, Immortal-Technique, Chamillionaire & Brother Ali plus much much more, its never been a better time.
The bay area seems to be having new and interesting talent coming out and I expect 2007 & 2008 to be better than previous years.
I another thing I would like to mention is that the most dangerous aspect in Hip-Hop itself is bootlegging, which harms smaller artists that are independent than big label pushers. If you like someone, you should buy their album to help them.
peace.

Yep there are quite a few good rappers, Mos Def, Talib Qweli, the rest of AOTP, to name a few, but they dont aim to be commerical in sense like 50 cent. The problem is there are to many rappers that aiming to just trying to make a quick buck, also everybody is trying make some killer beat to cover up the fact that they dont have good lyrics. Lyrics should come first, rappers now are just trying to make a good tune to dance to, repeating the chorus which is having a bad affect on the lyrics.
Also hiphop has become more widely accepted, its catching up to rock, so artist are trying to appeal to everyone, but all in all majority of artist now are just crap. G Unit, the Game, etc they are crap.

It's never coming back, we need an new type of (good) music, too much "rock" or "hip-hop" or "whatever crap they decide to put on" on the radio. Not that I don't like that kind of music, I can't stand the radio, exept a few poor quality ones, popular music in france is t3h sux, after years and years of the same crap, we need change.

While I can agree that change is always inevitable, in this case we're not seeing any advancement or innovation of any sort from the mainstream. Just a lot of rappers talking about *****es on the CD and then have a love song two tracks later, or about "100 G's on my wrist." I'm sick of it, so I have to dig into the underground.

Anyway, i wouldnt call it TRUE hiphop, music genres always change (what happened to glamrock for example?) and they will keep on doing so. Thats why I think its just a matter of time before the mainstream hip-hop we have today is not appreciated anymore and hopefully BETTER hiphop will rise and be the new mainstream. I mean, there is still great hiphop music being made its just not up on MTV.

Just an opinion, but some of the songs on g-units album are really good. But I guess people only take note of the bad songs that they put out.
I know that people get mad at g-unit because they dont have as much talent as Rakim or the other people you listed, but some of their songs are much better than their popular records imo.
You can call me an idiot for liking G-unit or a God for liking Rakim, it wont change the fact that g-unit do have some nice songs.

G-Unit do have some nice songs, as does 50 Cent, Young Buck and other members of the group individually. Let's not forget that M.O.P. and Mobb Deep are also in the group, two hip hop groups with classics to thier name.
I think the problem is what they sell to the market, in the currently limiting music industry enviroment doesn't give much chance for anything that different to shine.
I do have a problem with people calling G-Unit out and out ****, but there are a lot of better and different artists out there who are being held back by G-Unit and other more souless twerps. But that doesn't make me afraid of bumping a song I like, and sadly it does seem to affect a lot of underground fans, who will out and out deny the song is good sometimes.

Its not comming back ever. You know why? Its because the younger generations are growing up wit that fag 50 Cent and Mike Jones, and grow up thinking that this is real hip-hop when it isn't even close.
Right now, the closest you can really get to old style hip-hop is A) The old songs by the good artists or B) Dilated Peoples are still around, and they have some good songs.
I wish people like Gang Starr, and then Guru were still around. NWA, Dre and Snoop when they could rap instead of their new songs.

The funny thing about this is that you're all wrong. You people focus on the old artists and completely overlook the new artists that have emerged from the game. Say hello to up-and-coming legends like Lupe Fiasco, Common (his new album, Finding Forever showcasing my favorite song, "Driving Me Wild") along with the artists, A Tribe Called Quest and Fort Minor (still waiting for their second album to drop). Some of the underground artists that we love to listen to are seriously being outweighed by the mainstream artists. And some of the mainstream artists are ones that I like. I love rap groups like Crime Mob and Three 6 Mafia (listen to Doe Boy Fresh by Three 6 Mafia, seriously ill). But, you know, to each his own. Lil Wayne is good too, especially his old stuff. He went from nothing building his own empire and is already recommended by many as the top artist in today's hip-hop scene. Ever pick up "The Block Is Hot"?
And how can no one mention Akir? I mean, this guy is basically a living legend. His political song, "Politricks" is something along the lines of old-school hip-hop meeting current political debates. You can't make a thread saying if and when the music genre of hip-hop will make a comeback because the music genre of hip-hop already has so many styles that it's growing every day. From Ghostface Killah to Tupac to the birth of 50 Cent's career finally hitting mainstream audiences, hip-hop has already made a comeback. Nasir Jones and Talib Kweli are very good hip-hop artists who are already mainstream. Which brings me to my next point of discussion.
We need to bring the underground artists up to the ranks of today's current mainstream artists. We need someone to help spread a message like Lupe Fiasco, Common and Nasir Jones (a.k.a Nas). I hear people saying Soulja Boy is not true hip-hop. That's because that's not the genre he represents. I mean, open your eyes, his songs are something to crunk and dance to --- it's club music! People are putting Soulja Boy down for all the wrong reasons. Yeah, his music may not stand up to others, but that's because he's not competing with living legends. His music is for fun, not meant to be taken seriously. I think his songs are entertaining when you think of them as club songs instead of true hip-hop. It's like how people say 50 Cent is bad, they just look at him the wrong way. I'm not saying Soulja Boy is good. I'm just saying you guys are looking at his music the wrong way. It's not meant to be hip-hop.
There are many things you guys need to learn about music, in general. Our perspective may be dead-set on the old artists that were good. And that's fine, I'm not saying they're bad. But just look at it this way: Music changes, for better or worse and once it does we have to remember that new artists come and go and all of this crap-trap is just a phase. Besides, if we make some of our favorite underground music artists like Immortal Technique become hardcore mainstream like 50 Cent, they might turn into current crap-trap artists like Soulja Boy. Some are just meant to stay underground because they may tarnish their own music and become blinded by fame and respect once they hit mainstream. Music is a tricky business. Everyone hates your music and many like it.
Immortal Technique is good, too. :D

I dont think it will ever!!! I am black and I think that. Why you ask? Well because they are saying the most sickest, disrespectful, and pointless things nowadays.
It really gets me down to see that Hip Hop is getting so crappy now. I mean soulja boy is making funny but pointless songs that he couldve went without. I mean I am starting to listen to Rock and metal alot more than hip hop now that it sucks so much. Hate to say it but hip hop sucks now.
