I thought this would be an interesting read.

It is confirmed by director Christophe Gans that a sequel to the film Silent Hill is "officially ordered and well on the way". He went on to state that Samuel Hadida and Sony Pictures' subsidiary TriStar Pictures are attached as producer and distributor respectively. He also confirms that screenwriter Roger Avary will return to write the film's screenplay. Gans has also stated that the movie might tie up loose ends from the first film.
It is unknown whether Gans will return as director because of his prior commitment to the Onimusha film, but he has said he will stay close to the film's production regardless. The story is unknown as well, but it is confirmed that the film will retain the visual look of the first film.

Good to hear as I enjoyed the first film although it there were inconsistancies. Hopefully this one will be more grounded in the Silent Hill lore. I never understood why Hollywood always has to change things? The games are done the script is there why revamp them?

I am sure that they will make a new one, I do not think that it will take a long time for it to be made like the first one. I did not really like the first movie that much and thought that it was not very scarry and did not like the plot outline

Haha! That made me laugh.

Anyways, I liked the first Silent Hill movie. However, some parts in the movie just scared the living s*** out of me, like when the Pyramid Head came out of the darkness, next to the church and teared the skin off of the woman and I was like, "OMGZ!!eleven!1!! I'm tah scared of j00!" when referring to the Pyramid Head. I think the movie succeeded in scaring the audience, and the plot was really kind of familiar to the first Silent Hill game. Anyways, I hope the second movie goes along with the plot of Silent Hill 4: The Room. That was a crazy game! Freakin' sweet, in my opinion. Those two-headed white-faced freaks scared me!

I put spoiler tags up b/c some people havn't seen the movie PZ, tisk tisk! - Cyrann

Uhhh.... I thought the first one was just horrible, so I'm not exactly jumping with joy over this one.
I'll give the benefit of the doubt, but most likely I won't go see it.

I only just recently got off my butt & watched the first one.

I loved it, for once the director didn't manged to make it non-scary & camp like other game-to-movie disasters.

I look forward to the second one.

Man, I wish they actually would release some more info on the movie.

It's going to be released, I think, in August of 2008.

I liked the first one but didn't think it was scary but more of something to mess with your mind.

This is pretty interesting; information on the first film and how it got the plot.

Writer Roger Avary had said that as a boy, his father, who was a mining engineer, used to tell him stories about the town of Centralia, Pennsylvania United States where coal deposits from the local mine caught fire and released toxic gases into the town. This forced the majority of inhabitants to evacuate forever. Avary was fascinated since childhood by the idea that fires underneath the town would be burning for such a long time and the story of Centralia was used as the basis for the township of Silent Hill. When the script was finished, a studio memo was sent to Gans and Avary that voiced concerns about the lack of a male presence in the film, since the original story contained a nearly all female cast. Gans and Avary added Christopher's character (named after Gans) and subplot and the script was approved.

After filming, over 619 visual effects shots were used in the film, with the most prominent uses being the fog that drenches the town, the transitions to darkness, and the insects that surround Red Pyramid. Some of the creatures were also touched up in post-production, with CGI effects such as the burning on the Grey Children, the changes in the dimensions of the Armless creature's legs, the disease that the Janitor spreads, and the barbed wire during Alessa's revenge. However, most of what is seen on film existed physically during production.
