For anyone who doesn't know about the Escape from series', it involved a rebel named Snake Plissken which was played by Kurt Russel in the Escape from New York and sequel Escape from L.A.

And there is new info that the actor Gerard Butler (The king in 300) might be heading up the role as Snake in the next one. Thought people would want to know because of how many people on these boards love 300. ^^

Butler Escapes from New York?
300 actor may star in remake.

March 13, 2007 - Gerard Butler has been looking for a hit in Hollywood for years, and he finally got it this past weekend with the hugely successful debut of 300. And now it looks like he may be appearing in another potentially big genre film: a remake of John Carpenter's classic Escape from New York.

Variety is reporting that Butler is "at the center of a package that CAA began shopping Monday" for a redo of the 1981 sci-fi action flick that originally starred Kurt Russell as the one and only Snake Plissken. Obviously Butler would take on that role, one of the great antiheroes of the movies, in the remake.

Neal Moritz is attached as producer and Black Hawk Down writer Ken Nolan is scripting. Variety also reports that "several studios" are fighting over landing the pic, largely because of Butler's new star power. Couldn't they see that star power coming like six months ago as the rest of us did?

Hmm... I'm skeptical unless Carpenter is directing. Look at The Fog remake and the Halloween's carpenter wasn't involved with, awful. I guess the Assault on Precinct 13 remake was decent tho.

I'll have my fingers crossed for a good remake which is possible if they attach the right director to the project but knowing remakes history within Hollywood, especially recently, I think they should have left it alone. Attempting to remake a classic is hard because you have to beat a classic for it to get critical acclaim.

Assault on Precinct 13 was an excellent remake I would say. But Escape from New York was a pretty lame movie in my opinion. The 2nd one was even worse.
