idk. I don't really know the difference between the two but when I formated my drive it did not take that long. I am pretty sure I did full.

he is trying to format the internal drive not the external and as far as I know you can't put demos on an external drive.

I did a full format, which takes forever, because I wasn't sure whether or not a quick would work.
The reason it takes so long is that it's writing stuff to every single sector of the disk, on both the PS3 and Linux partitions. I assume the zeroing out is to keep your Linux stuff from seeing any traces of old PS3 files.

You didn't.
Full format took a long time, and I'm completely bored waiting for it to complete. Tempted to press "X" button to cancel, but I slept over till the morning.
If you don't want to sell it, then it is fine with Quick format.
but if you really want to sell your PS3, you MUST do Full format.
Quick format, you can still recover some data with special program, while Full will completely erase it, and the data will be completely destroyed.
It's just like low-level and high-level formatting in computing world.
