(Sorry if you guys have already discussed this, it is a new article though)
The fact that you might be able to download new tracks is really cool in my opinion. This could mean endless games and so on. The only thing I didn't like about it was the fee, but you can't expect them to make new things for free. I wonder were the new maps will be stored, maybe burned on the UMD or saved to the memory stick. If they save it on the memory stick the files have to be small as the memory stick will only hold 32 MB and there might be mny other games using this function.

yes this has already been mentioned somewhere but its no problem, its nice to see some1 different posting on here for a change, oh and welcome to the site
anyway i will go and grab my copy of edge and quote some of the interview relevant to wipeout pure for you
Edge
is there anything specific being planned with the first wave of sony-developed titles?
Phil
were going to be designing additional levels for wipeout pure that can be downloaded via wi-fi. hopefully a new track every month after release
Edge
what’s the proposed payment model for downloadable content like this?
Phil
in this case it will be absorbed by the cost of the game.
Edge
how will this content be stored, given PSP's lack of internal writeable harddrive, and the fact that UMD is currently a ROM-only format?
Phil
on memory stick duo pro. you can get memory sticks that store anything up to 1Gb[byte is meant here not bit] of memory. but we'll be designing these wipreout pure tracks so you can store several on a 32Mb[byte again] stick

Sony will most likely be charging for a service to use the PSP wirelessly. That's what's been said, anyway.

I hope they don't, maybe the charge to get an account is all I'd think should be done...

I really hope that we dont have to pay for the wireless play. I will have just enough money to buy the psp and a game. I really really dont have the money for anything else.

you wont have to pay to play in WiFi but to play wirelessly i dont see any other way than to charge. That would be like having free cellular phone service out of the box.

does nintendo charge for using the DS wirelessly?

the DS doesnt have wireless functionality. it uses bluetooth which is very simmilar to WiFi. Both of them only have a limited range of 100 feet or so.

o then you maybe right (about sony charging to play wirelessly)

Why would the charge for that? It's not like you connect to the internet and play online. The wirless feature is so 2 people with the same handheld and same game can play togeather.

think your confused mate or maybe im confused. The PSP to my knowledge has 2 ways of communicating. It can use its WiFi ability to play with other gamers near it and it also has the ability to go Wireless Online and play people from around the world. Thru the internet you can download new tracks and maps for games etc.
Think im wrong heres what im talking about.
"no word on multiplayer online play regarding the game, but Harrison did mention that new tracks will be made available for Pure on a monthly basis. Users would log onto the WipeOut Pure network with the game and wirelessly download these stages"

I figured he was trying to tie in the PSP's wirless play with the DS...either way you look at it both of us is confused.

I figure its going to be free to play with others, but to download content onto your psp may cost, they could have put the hard drive from the Ipod mini into the PSP but thats one of my ideas that they could have done...

the thing is, they would have to get some sort of a contract with Apple cause they're "Apple Ipods" . For sony to get em it would take a long time aswell...

Actually they were made by Hitachi, who made minature hard drives.. (or so i can remeber)

but then the PSP would be twice its current size. they packed that thing tight and plus i dont think it would run on the size battery pack they have now
