Got a quick question looking to order some cables from monoprice and not sure which ones to get. I got some hand me down Altec Lansing speakers that did not come with an audio cable...and was wondering if it was possible to connect to a the PS3 using optical..or perhaps regular rca? I plan on using a monitor via dvi-d/hdmi cable. Thanks & rep to who can help me, currently at work so don't have model # on me.
edit: would coaxials cable work???

are they PC speakers? Are they passive or does the sub act as an amp? What outputs does it have? Not enough info there.
I would say you would have to get a 3.5mm (male) to RCA adaptor (female) to plug them into your PS3. Or if they speakers support optical or spdif, go with that. But i doubt they would since it's just an old 2.1 system.

The sub is the amp as well(plugged in to wall)..no idea what kind of input/output? I think it only has a input...for which I don't know what kind of cable. How do I plug the rca into the PS3..I thought it only had an optical cable output??

no, it has a "multi-out", which is what the cable that comes with the PS3 plugs into. This includes RCA out cables (the red and white ones). You can then adapt those into 1 3.5mm "headphone jack" cord, which is probably what your speakers use.

You would need something like this:
Amazon.com: 5.1 Game Console Adapter Convert Rca Plugs To A Single 1/8: Electronics
That's for 5.1, but I think it works for 2.1 just fine.
