View Full Version : Will Sony Refund My 2.40 Calls To Their Tech Desk ?

Last week I had to call Sony on a stupid 0870 number from my mobile ( don't have a land line ) as my PS3 was one of the few totally wiped out by 2.40. So my question is this as i spent 20 minutes on the phone due to a problem caused by their corrupt download i don't see why i should be billed 20 quid ($40 approx) i reckon i should be at least fully refunded and even be given a free game for the inconvenience caused , anyone have any experience of this?
Oh yea i will get an itemised mobile bill so i can tell them precisely how much they have cost me . I'm not a tight arse but i'm in a low paid job and thats nearly a days wages so you can see why im annoyed :eek:.

I doubt it, but ***** and moan until they have to give you something back.
Ask for the manager, the supervisor, Jesus, etc. ;)

I doubt it. Its not their fault that you don't have a land line. But guess it never hurts to ask.

You need to change tariff. An 0870 number is charged at national rate, which is 10p per minute, even in the worst case scenario it will only be 30p. So your 20 minute phone call would of cost £2 - £6. Never would it cost £20.

Nope very much doubt it they will just say use someone else's land line or use a payphone, not their fault you don't have one and if they do decide to give you something back then they will want receipts of the cost and everything as it might cost $10 and you could sat $40 etc so probably more trouble than it's worth.

i did actually try that number bosconian but the sony one didn't work sadly.
I had to use mobile so that i could be next to the PS3 , otherwise i would have used work phone! or a phonebox.
hope your right though that 0870 isn't pound a minute .
I am with Virgin Mobile incidentally so if anyone knows tariff to 0870 numbers that's be cool .

Calabrese (http://www.ps3forums.com/member.php?u=37404) thanks mate it seems your correct , i just found by googling that Virgin charge 15p a minute to 0870 numbers so 20 x 15p = 3.00 .
I suppose i can handle that !

off topic, but o2 and voda, charge 10p a minute for 0870 (national rate calls)

There are SO MANY possibilities other than using a cell phone that I doubt SONY would ever consider giving compensation for it. I can just picture every cell phone user now requesting a free game or other compensation because they felt like using a cell phone (and many would use them during ''free time') Instead of finding a cheaper alternative.

??? Even if you are on the lowest possible wage (£5.52/hr) it's nowhere near a days wages. You made that up, so why should be believe you about anything else...
It's not Sony's fault you don't have a landline, and not smart enough to use the 0800 Freephone number...

You might get some money back if you moan enough, but I seriously doubt you'll get a free game. And it's not exactly their fault that you don't have a landline. You should've known that calls from a mobile will be more expensive.

Wrong, All network operators have changed the charges due to an OFCOM directive to drive transparency, the cost of making a Call to almost all 08 numbers will cose you the same ammount as a cross network mobile now.

To the OP I don't see why you cant get the phonecall refunded if you have the bill/receipt. Its not your fault that you could only use a mobile phone and they wont be able to hold that against you. Its sonys fault that 2.40 bricked your PS3 so just keep pushing and they will have to refund you.

Your paying $40 for 20 mins? I think the only ones ripping you off here is your phone company. Heck, I have a to-go plan, and $40 gets me close to 500 mins. And even that is not really a great deal.

I have received a free PSN game before, After I was on hold for so long they gave me a redemption code to use. I bought PAIN.

I work in a complaints department and that's one of the most idiotic things I have to read / hear. Newspapers really don't care if someone had to wait on the phone for 20 mins.
If you're making a complaint over something minor (hell, even something major), don't get ***** and moan. Worst thing you could do. In most cases the company won't be legally obliged to do anything. Instead, be really, really nice but say you're disappointed that you've been put out and ask if they'd be willing to make a gesture of goodwill to put your mind at rest. If they say no, be nice about it and ask if can speak to a manager, and just say the situation has cost you and you'd appreciate a gesture from the company (e.g. free PSN game). If the manager says no, ask what their official complaints process is and write a letter.
Trust me, if you complain and you're an ******** you have less chance of getting something out of it! ;)

hang on, you come on here to chat because you love playstation and SONY, not to incourage other members to put peer pressure on SONY, threatening them about bad press. SONY should be spending their money on HOME in my opinion, not some person who uses their mobile to phone SONY knowing it will cost them a fair bit of money! If everyone who phoned SONY using their mobiles got a refund, could you imagine, everyone would be doing it!
Now shut up complaining because SONY is not responsible FOR YOUR MONEY!
