I have a Samsung. When I press the off/on button on the remote the TV goes onto standby, as most TV's do. But when I press the off/on button on the actual TV, it also goes into standby? I've checked the manual & it say's to turn off the TV you press the button on the TV, but all it's doing is putting it on standby...
I wouldn't mind, but because my TV covers the whole of my cupboard I can't get round to the plug sockets to turn it off, I have to pull my TV out to do so, & I don't want to be doing that all the time...

My TV is exactly the same, you can't actually turn it of fully without un-plugging it, which is ridiculous. You might just be missing something but it is possible that you can't turn it of fully without switching it of at the mains, like mine.

OMG!!! This is going to be hell...

Do you know if leaving it on standby is really THAT bad for the TV?

Standby is considered "off" for most modern electronic devices, like the PS3. It's normal. I see commercials saying it's bad since it waste a little power though.

I have a Samsung. Just as long as the light is red, you're good.

I turned off the melody, too. Annoying sound.

If anything, it is much better for the TV than flicking it off and on all the time.

Yea my light always turns red and I just think of that as it being off... since really it's better for it to go into standby everytime than unplugging it and then plugging it back in... and a lot easier.

Ok. I don't get how the red light still shows when it's off though :/

Are they still using that old 8-bit sound that sounds like it's from an old NES game? :snicker My friend's Samsung does that.
