Simple concept, as i think the film thread works pretty well!
Nas; Untitled
Been listening to this all day, I wont go into how i've got it this early!
A really good ablum, seems Esco is back on track after the streets disciple blandness, Theres some good singles in here too, I really love the Busta assisted Fried Chicken , a fun track. Theres quite a lot of political stuff in here and some seriously good Barrack Obama promotion! I find most political commentry in music to be auwful, but this is done well. The production is nice but i'd like to have seen the MF DOOM tracks Nas had speculated about.
I'm not really enjoying the cool and dre we make the world go round track though, too much of the stuff that Nas has been critised for, although his second verse has some amazing flow
Overall not his best, but whats ever going to touch Illmatic

Last full album I listen to was probably...
The Sounds - Dying To Say This To You.
Brilliantly upbeat album, with the one slow song that is amazing to which they made a alternate upbeat version thats is just as good, overall one of my favourite albums.
Favourite tracks: Night After Night, Painted By Numbers

"The Dark Knight Official Soundtrack" - Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard
It was leaked so I decided to download it, I'll still be picking it up since I love movies scores. This is really different from the Batman Begins score, you can really tell that the two of them went all out on it. Just from the score alone if you haven't seen any of the trailers you know it's going to be a dark film. Fav. tracks: - Why so Serious?, I'm Not a Hero, Like A Dog Chasing Cars, I thought my Jokes Were Bad and Agent of Chaos. It has to be one of the best film scores I've listened to in a long time
10/10
"Viva la Vida" - Coldplay
They really went in a different direction with this one. That doesn't mean it's a bad album it's just hard to get used to the sound of it. At first I wasn't to sure how it was going to sound since Chris Martin said they were terrified of it but overall I really like it, there are a few songs on it like every album that I just don't care for. Fav. tracks: Lovers in Japan-Reign Over Love, Viva la Vida, Violet Hill and Strawberry Swirl.

After hearing them play a few songs off the new album I decided to buy it and it does not disappoint. From start to finish, all 12 tracks are packed with good riffs and drums beats which are further complimented with David Draiman's voice.
Favorite Tracks: Perfect Insanity, Torn, Criminal, Inside The Fire, The Night, Indestructible, Divide...

Finally got a chance to listen to the whole album and I must say it is definitely worth a 10. Every song flows perfectly and shows the true sound of GNR. Best album I have ever listened to. Too bad they all can't set aside their differences and join go back to the original lineup.
Favorite songs: Can't decide. They're all too good.

Metallica - Death Magnetic - 9.5/10
While the first four albums (Kill 'Em All, Ride the Lighting, ...And Justice for All, Master of Puppets) are better than DM, this is without a doubt a return to form after the Black album (which I enjoyed, a lot). The combination of old style riffs and guitar solos while adding James Hetfield's new voice is an excellent combination, making this album the metal album of the year.
Favorite tracks: Unforgiven III, The Day that Never Comes, Broken Beat & Scarred, All Nightmare Long, Cyanide

Well I'll rate some stuff I've been listening to lately:
Fear Of A Blank Planet by Porcupine Tree
After the slightly underwhelming Deadwing, FOABP is definetly one of Porcupine Tree's best albums, and certainly one of the overall best albums of 07. While not billed as a concept album, it may as well be. It doesn't have a coherent story it has one central theme: modern kids and there problems. I'll leave you to untangle the issues, but they are well presented and are never preachy. Anesthetize the epic 17 minute song that splits the album nicely, is worth the admission price alone.
The sound is definetly the metallest that PT have done, but theu still retain that lovely slightly Pink Flody esque sonic. A very, very good album.

Scars On Broadway 9/10
A classic album. Daron from System of a Down has recorded an album of infectious hooks, choruses, riffs, groovy new wavey keyboard licks, flourishes of psychedelia, but mainly no-frills raw punky rock. This album, while still not quite up there with Toxicity, is actually better than Steal This Album and Mezmerize / Hypnotize, and miles better than Serj Tankian's Elect The Dead album, which sounds like a bunch of unwanted SOAD b-sides. Daron's album is so good that any one of them could make a great single. The band is awesome live too. Search for them on YouTube ('scars on broadway live') to see what I mean.
Album of the year. Better than the new Metallica and better than the new Slipknot.

Your opinion of course, but have you heard the Scars on Broadway album right through at least 5 times in its entirety to be in the position to form that opinion? I think the Metallica album is good, but doesn't have the right amount of variety and melody for me. The new album by Slipknot has got catchy choruses galore, plus enough grunty riffs to make a great overall heavy rock record. Metallica's new songs seem more intent on jamming on a groove in the key of E for 7 minutes each song, and melodywise, whatever pops into James Hetfeld's head. There just doesn't seem to be the same amount of thought and originality gone into Death Magnetic for me. It's got some good tracks, but the Slipknot album has so much more in the way of fully-fleshed out songs with choruses, solos, verses, riffs, solos, dynamics, everything you need for a great song.
And Scars On Broadway has it by the truckload too. Check out the song 'Enemy' - starts out like a disco song, Chili Peppers style, then slows right down to a tripped out wave of psychedelia, then back into the disco rock funk groove again. If Death Magnetic had that sort of thing, it would make the album a heck of a lot more interesting. But ah well I guess that's what makes us all different with our tastes.

I love it and can't get enough. Every song and the structure of the album freakin genius. A mix of new a old for at least 6mins (only one song on the album shorter than 6:30). They sure let kirk loose on this one, awesome guitar solos all around, and rob sounds great holding the meat of the songs.

Cynic- Traced in Air
Long awaited (14 years) second album from the tech/prog/fusion masters doesn't disappoint. While it could never hope to live up to the beauty of Focus it sure as hell beats anything else released this year... yes including the new slipknot ffs.
Slightly more straightforward than Focus, but with more than enough layers which ensure that I am sill discovering thing on the 25th listen.
Album of the year contender for sure.

Originality is most definitly not something I would associate with. I swear to God Gemetria (Gametria whatever lol) sounds like disasterpiece at the start of the vocals and then kinda runs into heretic anthem. It's literally the same vocal pattern.
And one song (can't remember which one of the top of my head) is basically one looong breakdown. Album sucks dude.

Your opinion of course, but have you heard the Scars on Broadway album right through at least 5 times in its entirety to be in the position to form that opinion?
Indeed I have. I was a huge fan of System of a Down, I think I'd pay attention to where each of the band members ended up.
I think the Metallica album is good, but doesn't have the right amount of variety and melody for me.
Of course Slipknot has more variety - the lead singer uses two completely different voices! Now, of course it's up to you if you even want that variety, and I hate the fact that some of the songs on their new album is sung completely screamo. In fact, the only Slipknot song that was almost completely screamed I liked was Liberate. I detested the song "All Hope is Gone". I'd say the band Rise Against uses the perfect amount of screaming, which is to say, not a lot.
The new album by Slipknot has got catchy choruses galore, plus enough grunty riffs to make a great overall heavy rock record.
The riffs are excellently done, yes, but the singing bores me. Maybe because I can't understand it? Anyways, the only songs I truly like from their new album are "Dead Memories", "Psychosocial", "Butcher's Hook", "Snuff", and the two B-side songs "Child of Burning Time" and "'Til We Die". The rest of them, consisting of too much screamo, also have an annoying tendency to have guitar riffs that seem to follow no pattern at all, which is detestable, at least from my point of view.
Metallica's new songs seem more intent on jamming on a groove in the key of E for 7 minutes each song, and melodywise, whatever pops into James Hetfeld's head.
How so? Each song follows a general lyrical theme, and as for the random tempo changes, the band has always done that.
It's got some good tracks, but the Slipknot album has so much more in the way of fully-fleshed out songs with choruses, solos, verses, riffs, solos, dynamics, everything you need for a great song.
If you ask me, the guitar solos in Slipknot can't ever be compared to anything done by Metallica. If you want to compare Joey Jordison to Lars Ulrich, go ahead - they're both legendary drummers. But Kirk Hammett does really, really impressive stuff, something that most others can't.
And Scars On Broadway has it by the truckload too. Check out the song 'Enemy' - starts out like a disco song, Chili Peppers style, then slows right down to a tripped out wave of psychedelia, then back into the disco rock funk groove again.
Does Suicide & Redemption not count? It has a bunch of epic guitar riffs in the middle that sound slightly like an orchestral you'd see in a movie. And, in all honesty, I prefer "Chemicals".

Nice one man, Lamb of God are awesome. Their first album blew me away when I first heard it, great stuff.
Last album I just listened to is There is Nothing Left to Lose by the Foo Fighters. Deffinately one of their best albums, filled with great songs from start to finish. Stacked Actors is a great album starter and really sets the mood for the whole thing.
I'd say the most notable songs from the album are Breakout (featured on Me, Myself and Irene), Learn to Fly and and Next Year as they were released as singles and had music videos (Learn to Fly is probably one of the Foo's most famous and popular videos ever).
Songs that stand out for me are Stacked Actors, Gimme Stitches, Generator and Headwires. The song Generator is my favourite song to listen to when I'm driving at night and it's all warm from the car heater
Considering this album with my top 3 favourite Foo Fighter albums I would have to place it 3rd, with The Colour and the Shape being 1st, and their self titled being 2nd. Although with that said, I've been a fan of them ever since I heard All My Life from the One by One album and I pretty much enjoy all their albums (even though some people critisize their most recent album).
So yeah I would rate this album a 8/10 and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys general Rock music.

Wasn't Black Mountain the name of Goldfrapp's first album, if I recall correctly?
Edit: it was Felt Mountain and one of Goldfrapp's songs was Black Cherry, hence the confusion.
The last album I listened to was Alligator by The National whilst doing the ironing. Every song has its own charm and sound. It truly is a brilliant album, one which even their follow up (Boxer) couldn't surpass.

Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace by The Offspring
The Offspring are the only band I have ever listened to who haven't seen a major stylistic change in their entire career. Anyone who's been around as long as these guys have inevitably change their sound at some point. Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace does represent a slight change from that dynamic though. Although the individual songs are typical of the band, the dynamic of their music as you progress through the album is substantially different and seems to have a linear flow.
I personally am a huge fan of their earlier music and as such continue to be a fan of the new album but a few of the songs missed the target for me.

Appeal To Reason by Rise Against
Now where to start? Well, this cd keeps the classic Rise Against sound and makes it a little heavier. Long time fans will enjoy this album and if you haven't heard of Rise Against then give this album a listen. I'm certain you'll like it.
Most of the songs are alright but there are a couple that aren't as good. There's on track that really stands out and its call "Hero of War". This song is one of the best on the whole cd and it deserves to be listened to.
Now although this is a good album I personally don't find it as good as The Sufferer and the Witness. 8/10
