Does it? I know that HDCP down-scales everything to 480p... But is this ONLY for 1080p? Or it affects 720p as well :|?

no

if you watch DVDs over component, you will not get full upscale, because of some licence. you need hdmi for that.

over and OUT!!!!

I didn't see him mention DVDs. Blu-rays will play at 720p through component, the DVD upscaling, I don't know.

I don't care about DVD Upscaling, I want to know if Blu-Ray gets down-scaled to 480p if I play it over component.

Anyways, thanks Husker (And you know this from experience, correct? Or something you've heard...?)

As for DVD Upscaling, (as well as PS2/PS2 Upscaling), you NEED a HDMI connection, I already know this.

I've tried it before and I can confirm it'll go all the way up to 1080i, 720p. Sharp Aquos 32" and eventually on a 46" also Aquos.

I never tried using a 1080p over component, but it probably would've downscaled the image to 480p.

I thought that one of the security features of Blu-Ray media was that films would not play in High Def over anything but HDMI. Is this not the case? I have a PS3 and an HD Aquos set, but I also have a 720P projector that does not have an HDMI input on it. It only has component inputs. If the component output of the PS3 for blu ray movies is blocked for HD, I'm hosed.

It's possible for this to happen, but I don't think any studios have said they are going to use enforce it anytime soon if ever.

Studios can activate the ICT (Image Constrain Token), but none have so far. This would force down-scaling over component. Hopefully, it stays that way.

I've played Blu-ray movies on the PS3 @ 720p via component, it works... Doesn't look as good as they do @ 1080p, but it works.

Right, I forgot that ICT has to be enforced, and is not automatic... Sheesh, stupid moi :no!
