Help!

Immediately after I downloaded and installed the 2.40 firmware update (a few hours after its release, before it got pulled from the servers), my PS3 showed some strange problems. The TV flickered (as it does when channels are changed on the HDMI connection) and the sound emits a kind of popping noise, sounds a bit like a static shock (but nothing out of the ordinary, does that all the time).

Then for some strange reason, my PS3 menu was extremely choppy and the audio was just TERrible. It's as if a cable had gotten halfway loose (but I'm using a tight HDMI cord). Just a droning, buzzing noise. Ridiculous.

So I rebooted, turned it off for a few minutes and tried it again and haven't had a problem again until now.

Now I'm getting the same results... no audio problem this time but really terrible framerate! What's going on??

In-Game, the PS3 menu is a little choppy in all games but PSN ones, but the audio shouldn't have been a problem...I would try a new cable.

I don't know what to say... you're the first I've heard that had a problem like this after the update.

I didn't have any problems after I installed and video/audio runs fine. The only time I get choppiness on the menu is when I'm using the in-game XMB... but that's not a problem... it's just how it runs.

Sorry to hear about the problem and hopefully someone will have a solution for you.

I've rebooted it a 3rd time tonight, but this time with the longest time spent off. It's now working fine... perhaps it was an overheating issue?

If so, it's really disappointing, considering I don't even keep the console on for more than 3 hours or so. But thanks anyways guys.

Well pausing the game usually gets rid of the choppiness for me while using XMB in any game, but I have never had any problems with the audio... sounds like a bad cord, like someone else said but I really couldn't tell you.

also might want to recheck all your PS3 settings, could be just something is off with one of those. It sounds more like a bad cable tho, might wanna try if you can, changing them out.

my ps3 is die'n too.. after the 2.40 update..

sound and framerate is messing me about.

every 60secs in burnout paradise it stutters for 3-5 sec's

other games just lockup and need rebooting.

xmb just locks up and needs rebooting.

web browser locks up...

format utility locks up...

phoned sony, they asked me no questions, just said they will replace my system.. but im not going to swap my 1.5mth old system for some refurb i have no knowlage about the history... so i will wait until the next update.

its a friggin joke.....

Personally I think the xmb- in game possibilities just was a flop. To use it the whole system lags and even reboots! Therefore I just don't use it (the in-game). Maybe later when its smoother, but not now.

On the other side I think half of my psn games stopped working after the update. :( One of these are GT5p. Is it just me?

I can't imagine its an overheating issue unless you have your PS3 in a very poor place (IE, not enough ventilation), mines been on for periods of like 6 or 7 days straight in the past with no issues. But unfortunately, I've got no idea what it may be. If it keeps happening either back up your stuff and try a System Restore or call Sony and see what they advise.

As far as the 'static pop' goes, I used to have that issue myself. What I found out is that when you use the automatic setup for the audio, sometimes the PS3 will choose unsupported settings and if it chooses a setting higher then what your TV supports you can get some popping and/or crackling in the speakers.

Go to you Audio menu and hit Manual then try unchecking everything and start at the bottom of the list and check a box or 2 then exit out and try it. If that is you issue, when you select the proper setting(s) the popping/crackling should stop. Be sure to check this though as those noises mean your speakers are receiving signals they can't process (IE, possibly damaging them).

i think its not ur ps3 but the psnetworks fault. they admitted ther was a couple of bugs on the software and that it needs going over and patching. btw, have they terminated psn for the time being untill they sort the problem? if they have i hope they hurry up, so i can go back to playing online lol!
