I rented 4 blu ray movies last night, First time playing a blu ray and they all say full 1080p on the back 1920 by 1080, But for some reason they all play in widescreen, Is there a way to get it to play in full screen? I went to the ps3's settings and ive got the scaling set on full screen, The ps3 is set on 1080p,Not sure what else to do, I have the tv set on 16:9, Its anoying me because its got the black bars 1 on top 1 on the bottom and i didnt purchase the ps3 and the full hd tv to only use abit of it.

I believe that's how it's supposed to look... because every BluRay title plays that way. If you actually had it at full screen then everything in the movie would look taller that it is supposed to actually be.

this one you mean? http://www.ps3forums.com/showthread.php?t=67376
read that and you'll understand why there are two black bars at the top and bottom of your screen.

you are getting the movies in their original aspect ratio...meaning the way they were shot by the film makers...
many movies are shot in a "wider" aspect ration than 16:9...so therefore you get black bars...

Here is a list cut into two parts I found on bluray.com I know there is one on avsforums.com, but I couldn't find it. :dunce
Also, these are not "fullscreen" but 1.85:1 instead of 2.35:1 which is what you are referring to as "widescreen."

there is no such thing as "full screen" and "widescreen" when it comes to Blu-ray movies...
"full screen" and "widescreen" became popular with DVD's because 4:3 ratio TV's were what people had in their homes...so "full screen" chopped off the sides and fit the movie to your screen, while "widescreen" kept the whole picture, and forced black bars at the top...
Now, with BD's we see all movies in their original aspect ratio...some times this is 16:9 which is the ratio of your TV, and sometimes it is wider...and you will get black bars...its the way it should be seen...you will NEVER see BD's labeled as widescreen or fullscreen...because well simply they are all widescreen lol

no there should not...you don't want to chop the edges off of the picture...its just silly to zoom in, lose quality, and some of the picture...

Can a mod please lock this topic? There is a sticky that explains all of this.
If you are the kind of person who needs every pixel of your TV taken up by a film, then go ahead and stretch/crop a 2.35:1 presentation to do it. Also buy yourself a dunce cap at the same time.
