To format you go to system settings and to get it back from repairs depends on what country and what model of the PS3 you have.

Don't double post, especially in an unrelated topic 58 minutes apart.

It might be an unsupported enclosure. Ask Here (http://ps3forums.com/showthread.php?t=31103&page=926)

Generally, if your HD needs formatted when you first turn the PS3 on it will do it on its own. Took about 5 minutes to format my 200 gig HD after replacement.

And Sony's turn-around time on replacements/fixes is great, in the US it took me about 5 or 6 days from the time my box arrived till the time I had my system back and they completely refurbished it. I hear in the UK that when you return your system they bring a replacement when they pick up your broken one but I'm not from the UK and can't verify.

I think he's asking how to format it (erase the data) before he sends it to the repair centre. Makes you wonder how many people with PS3's have never even bothered to browse thru the system menu :suspect:
