The "won't-add Trophies" developer list *UPDATED* 7/4/2008

Trophies, it's a great idea!! Love it!! Just wish I can get them, but since they just came, only that Super Stardust HD game has them! Ok, I get it, I'll wait, but the thing is that apparently some developers do not want to add trophies to their already released games. I know that they are busy making games right now, but they don't even give us hope for the future! At least they could say that when they have the time they will add them!

Note: One of those sources is videogaming247, but the thing is that they've been complaining about the 2.40 update even before it was released, and when it was released, they've made the pulling of the update and its problems a BIG deal, a disaster. Now, I don't want to say that they are a bunch of xbox fans just because most of their news are MS friendly and/or anti-Sony, so I won't :snicker. Just wanted to say that I hope they are exaggerating this or misinformed.

EDIT: I've just read that Civilizations Revolution is not getting trophy support, their developers aren't even planning it. Meanwhile, the 360 version is getting 50 achievements. You guys call this fair? They're not giving even a hint that trophies are coming, nothing! Too bad money from a "certain company" doesn't last forever.

EDIT #2: Thanks to GuitarrassDeAmor for the confirmation that Insomniac may apply patches for their old games when they're finished with Resistance 2. *check Source #3* This is another proof that videogaming247 likes to turn news in a negative perspective when talking about anything Sony related. *check Source #1*.

to the company this is added development time for what? To make fans happier, but it won't sell anymore games, it won't fix any bugs, it is just a reward system, and they don't feel the need to spend their money for it... Now if they don't do it for future games it is just dumb...

Insomniac has already confirmed Resistance 2 will have trophies, so for the most part yes. Eventually it will be a requirement that games come with trophy support.

And updating games to have trophy support could sell extra copies. I think this is especially true to PS Store games. They just need to make sure that people know that the games have been updated to support trophies. For instance say Calling all Cars were to get updated for it, they'd need to make it known in the PS Store on one of the little block image sapces that Calling all Cars now supports trophies.

This will sell games, I truly believe that. I know that games that are going to be released will have trophy support, but already released games can also benefit a lot from it. Besides, even if they aren't retroactive, I would play the game again. I don't know, maybe I'm one of those crazy people that like showing off my progress. PLUS, how cool will it be to reach a high level and showing it off!

Those aren't the only dev's in the world. As much as I would have wanted trophy support for those games, I'm sure other games will compensate for what they don't provide. I'm waiting for the Warhawk trophies and Uncharted.

I am not buying ANY Infinity Ward games ever. Simply because they couldn't be bothered adding any features at all....not even rumble. I have some posts about this issue on some other threads so I'm not going to get into all the details here. I say it's this simple, DEVS want to keep us the gamers buying their product then they should show some respect for us and do something to warrant us continuing to to KEEP them in business.

I don't blame Insomniac for not adding trophies to their already released games. They are probably working around the clock to get Resistance 2 ready. It's not like it is easy to have one of the best launch games and then 2 more AAA titles ready within 2 years.

The same with Infinity Ward. They sold so many copies of COD4 already it probably isn't even cost effective to add trophies and rumble to COD4. They are probably really busy working on the next COD. It took them like 3 years of hard work to get COD4 as good as it was on both systems.

Oh trust me, I definitely feel you on that. I noticed trophies would rake in sales once I saw how many people bought Super Stardust HD just to get them. Atleast about 8 people were all on my buddylist playing it. But as far as Call Of Duty 4 is concerned I do feel the hype around it has died down. The firmware was just released this past week (and taken down, LOL) but I'm sure in the coming months, games that are being released will support trophies.

I honestly don't understand why Dev's wouldn't want to patch their previous games with trophy support. I personally think it would be sooo much fun to have all these different requirements in a game. Any dev's who don't implement a patch, I assume would be because they already have upcoming games that will support it. I'm sure a couple of patches will be released within the next month or so. Especially with E3 coming next week.

I have a feeling most of Sony's first party titles will get trophy patches.

I agree. I will re-play some of my games over that support trophies as well. For the first time on Playstation consoles we will be able to show EVERYONE not just our friends from down the street how good we are @ a game. I think it is a feature that people can enjoy and this can even re-introduce you to some games you beat already. Good move Sony!

I really want this feature, but I'm not gonna buy a game now that I wasn't interested at all before. If I'd been interested in it at least a little (Super Stardust HD) I would buy it now. But the only games I have now are Motorstorm, Orange Box, Assassin's Creed, DMC4, GTA4, MGS4 (wow, that's a lot of 4s), and for PSN games, Tekken 5: DR, MK2, Crash Bandicoot trilogy. So in other words Sony ain't giving me any trophy love. :oops:

I think that maybe GTA4 and/or MGS4 might be getting them, and I read somewhere here that EA are patching their games so OB is a possiblity (ignoring their defiance to fix it). Considering that Motorstorm received a lot of DLC after it was released, it could get trophy support after Motorstorm 2 is released. Devil May Cry 4, that's one I highly doubt it'll get support, same goes for Assassin's Creed. If any, ANY of my games gets trophies I'll become a super duper happy camper.

Um no. the next C.O.D game is NOT being made by Infinty Ward. They have any other big game titles? Name me some cause I don't know any. If they are busy doing something...it is counting all YOUR money up and laughing at you for what they consider a profit-less request to them in order to better the game they made. IW has spit in your face. Wake up!

I am willing to bet that EA does in fact support trophies. The NCAA and MADDEN are not even out yet so they have plenty of time to get a patch worked up or even maybe just throw it into the game its self. I say they will def support trophies. Madden especially.

If what we've seen today is anything to go by, its that games with trophy support sell like wildfire, well, whilst there's only a few games with it at least.

When it comes to it though, and I'm deciding between two games, I'll go with the one that has trophy support.

This is how I would do it.

When I buy a new game I would. Firstly complete the story mode which automatically unlocks bronze trophies and if you complete necessary tasks silvers as well.

Then it would be online play which unlocks other trophies and probably stuff like 100 headshots etc. Then i'll go trophy hunting.

When I say trophy hunting I mean literally hunt for trophies like a mad man, I did it for SSHD and found them all (pm if need help).

It's not silly it's just called replay value.

Who is DaveW? What does he do there? I bet as of now they don't know what exactly they will do for the games since they don't even come out untill August. By the end of this month the PS3 forum boards (both official and unoficial) will be so jammed packed with demand for trophie support that all the good DEVS will scattering to release patches and planning ahead for suport on new releases.

I agree, wouldn't mind having the same achievements as trophies, but I bet that MS has some sort of contractual agreement or patent to prevent that, just like the music-over-game-audio (because I want this so much...yah right!).

You really want them copied? Some of Xbox's achievements are ridiculously easy, I think you could get one in The Simpson's Game just by pressing pause. :-|

Why do you think it sucks? Uncharted is a great game and desrves to be played again, if you really think it sucks that you got 100% and don't want to do it again, simple, just don't play it.

Somebody has to let Rockstar know how much we want trophies for GTA4. My next suggestion would be MGS4, but I bet they're already working on it considering how Kojima is with his franchise and not to mention the DLC available for it right now like new camo patterns, music, and the upcoming stuff for MGO.

It's probably not the fact of having to decide what elements of the game are worthy of trophies, but rather the coding for the patch to update, and making sure the code is in working order that would have issues with time/cost.

Am actually surprised that their not more dev rushing in to release trophy and custom soundtrack patch. Because lets face it any game that getting it today would see a spike in sales since their so few games offering the feature. And the whole cost and we don't have the time is just BS I mean it just four small pictures. If you cannot spare a graphic designer for a few hours you probably got some artwork laying around the office to use. And if you cannot come up with a *****load of cool things to do in your own game to tie in those trophies during your lunch break you don't deserve to be in the gaming business!

Why do you think Activision isn't calling the next COD game Treyarch is making COD5? Probably because the one Infinity Ward is making will be called COD5. And even if they aren't working on a COD game, they are most likely working on something. A developer with that kind of talent doesn't sit around trying to find work for 7 months.

If they are so talented then why not add some feature? Also what other games do they make? Name me a flagship game they have EVER made other than the C.O.D series. As far as Sony not having trophies....there wasn't that big of a demand for it at launch and now there is and now we have them.

I have to admit, the reason trophies got so much demand was thanks to the 360's achievements. No one can deny it, before those nobody thought of another reason to play a game other than simply enjoy them. I hate MS, with all my heart, but thanks to new features from everybody we keep evolving. When Nintendo and Sega made innovations in games in the past they inspired thousands of developers to make their own games. I know that copying is cheap, but when you get inspired by something and add to it your own touch, it continues the progression. Trophies are an example of just that, they are like achievements, but it isn't based on points, but on levels like an RPG.

Now, after all that block of text out of my chest I truly believe that Sony needs to force developers to include trophies in their games. To work them in their future games, and to at least guarantee a patch for their already released ones, just like MS forces developers. Now, before anyone says that it was Sony's fault that they came with trophies late, again, thanks to MS they saw that there was a demand for goal-like-achievements which is why the took so long (apart from the programming of it). So even though they might not think it's necessary, it is, because trophies will:


help sale games
add replay value
show their dedication to their fans (you know, the ones that pay their bills).

I admire Criterion for their dedication to Burnout: Paradise. They had added free content, good content, and still are working on adding more! Custom soundtracks, better SD resolutions, more game modes, more challenges, more cars, now bikes, what the hell! If their is one developer company, that shows continuing dedication for their game, even thought is multiplat, is Criterion.

Sony doesn't want to push it for games out now ( I do think that MOST of their first party titles will be aptched though ) or gaems coming out kinda soon. They will make trophies mandatory though later

While I agree it's better to have future games adopt it than waste devs' time patching old games, there's no reason for most released games (especially AAA titles like MGS4) to get trophies later on...

I think in a case like MGS4 or GTAIV, they will really try to push it. BUt for sometihng like.. NBA LIve 08 * Which i JUST bought the other day, its really fun! * i dont expect an update lol.
