So I was thinking about this, obviously we see how addictive this new trophy system can be, and looking at some of the trophies for Super Stardust HD I noticed that you need at booster pack to obtain some of them. Well I believe that plenty of people will buy add-on content just to get these trophies. Don't believe me just look at this thread (http://ps3forums.com/showthread.php?t=150335)! Developers should start patching their games with trophies so they can get people to buy their DLC! What do you guys think? Shouldn't this be an incentive for devs to get trophies in to the older games?

Nice theory, but I don't think it would work. It is a lot easier to develop a couple of levels as DLC for a 10-20 dollar game off of PSN than it is to develop the same for a 60 dollar game you get on blu-ray. Just look at the map pack for CoD4 or the time-frame between releases of the booster packs for Warhawk. Also the developers for these games are for the most part different than the developers for the smaller PSN games if I'm not mistaken.

I have to agree with the OP though. I bought the Solo expansion pack to get some additional trophies, and I'll probably get the co-op pack to get the last gold one. I don't doubt that there are people out there like me, who will get the expansions for games(or even get new games altogether) just to get new trophies.

Well what about games that already have DLC but it just didn't sell well, or they want to make a quick buck? They could patch trophies in and have a few that required add-on content. Also Dylan said that in Warhawk there would be 12 trophies for booster packs, 4 for each pack. There's 2 out right now. If Incognito can do it, I think others can to.

I'd do it. As long as the game is interesting I would buy DLC and games partly for trophies. I still will buy games based on the game play but trophies are now a factor as well.

It would also increase game rentals, as people who aren't sure whether they like a game or not or who just want the trophies, will rent it instead. Slightly off-topic, but doesn't the Solo pack for Super Stardust HD give you access to 4 trophies, whereas doesn't the Team pack not give you access to any? If anything, they should do the same as Warhawk and support 4 trophies per booster pack, it would make more sense. Also, for games that have a big online and offline component, e.g. Resistance, how should developers divide their trophy allocations?

Actually you need the Co-op pack for the very last trophy, which interestingly enough has just been taken off the PSN (link (http://ps3forums.com/showthread.php?p=3035192#post3035192)). And Warhawk will be having 4 trophies per booster pack Dylan said it the other day.

I bought the solo expansion on an impulse... Feel really bad about it, but HEY, at least I got another nice trophy... That is listed as silver on playfire, but is actually bronze...

It looks like my theory is true. Sony has taken the Super Stardust HD co-op DLC off the PSN because people were buying it for the last trophy of the game, and since some people don't have 2.40 yet they can't earn trophies and they wanted everyone to be on an even playing field, remember they said everyone was going to start out even from day one.

If your theory is correct it will happen but I think for the bigger older games it will not. Dev teams are usually pretty big and so this will cost a lot of money to develop. So, they have to be guaranteed this will make them a big enough profit to make it worth their time. I don't think it would for a game like COD4. You are talking about changing tons of code and retesting all the scenarios. I hops they do it, but I really doubt it.

Second, did you know that EA sold the Rock Band Bundle for less than it cost to manufacture? Do you know why? Because they knew they would get profits from DLC. I'm telling you DLC works, it doesn't cost as much as you think to develop, they make a ton of profit, hell Epic even gave their DLC away for free!
Lastly, the beauty of it is that they probably wouldn't have to change much if it is a multiplatform game like COD4 because they already have achievements in them! I wouldn't mind having the same "challenges" as 360 owners, they could keep the same scenarios just convert it to PS3 and trophies it can't be that hard.

I think it is funny that people will finally download SSDH just for the trophies, and only then finally realize how good the game is and that they should have downloaded it long ago when it was cheaper.
Trophies are a good thing if they broaden some horizons.

I've noticed 3 people on my friends list and myself have bought this game just for trophies, weren't really interested before. I bet they've made a huge amount from this being the first game to support trophies. I think psn games should all try to get trophies in, because it's a really good selling point for the next few months before the novelty wears off.

That is exactly what happened to me :p Anyone who doesn't have this game go get it now, it's brilliant

Supposedly you can get it yourself pretty easily if you have 2 controllers.

Here's some more fuel to the fire. Apparently Diggingtheweb.com also believes trophies=money. http://www.diggingtheweb.com/wiki/TrophyMoney (http://www.diggingtheweb.com/wiki/TrophyMoney)
Why it makes sense for developers to support the Trophy System
Trophy is money for the developers
It makes a lot of business sense for companies to support the new Trophy System. We will talk about that after a brief introduction to the trophy system.
The trophy system may be a gimmick for gamers like you and me because it makes us go through the game and try to unlock all the secrets in order to obtain all the trophies. 99% of the gamers do not unlock all the secrets in games because it takes too long and it’s ‘meaningless’, however the trophy system changed all that by adding a RPG level element to it. Now gamers have an incentive to unlock all the secrets because it will boost their levels; a psychological satisfaction and a sense of accomplishment for most people and bragging rights for others.
So how does this affect developers? The longer the gamers need to hang on to a game means the more likely the gamers will buy instead of rent and also the longer the gamers hang onto a game decreases the numbers of used copies on the market. Following the law of supply and demand, if the number of pre-owned copies decreases in the market the value of pre-owned title goes up. Gamers are more likely to pick up a new copy instead of pre-owned because the price difference may be close enough to warrant a brand new copy. Publisher and developers gain an extended window of time that they are able to sell more new copies to consumers, because they do not earn a single cent from pre-owned copy from being circulated in the market.
Developers that choose not to support the trophy system is losing out on this opportunity, especially with the PS3 implanting trophies this late in the system’s cycle, developers can easily get a “second wind” effect from updating their games with the trophy system. Players who have already beaten and sold their copies of Lair, Heavenly Sword, Rachet and Clank, Folklore, Call of Duty 4 or Gran Turismo Prologue is more likely to give these game a second run for their money! People who are hardcore gamers that want to ***** trophy points are also more likely to check out games with decent scores as well. It saddens me that CoD (http://www.diggingtheweb.com/wiki/CoD/edit) 4 may not be getting a trophy update, because trophy system = money.

I wonder if Sony did not set this up for just a few games to profit from the hype in the first few days? While the rest of the industry have to wait a week or so to release their own patch. And it sure wet the appetite of peoples who don't own the few games who support it. Or maybe those developers just understand gamers a little better and they are cashing in right now because of that! Think about it if trophies was implemented in every games since the release of FW 2.4 would it be a big deal right now. Or would it just be this new feature that you check from time to time!

I wouldn't buy the co-op pack just for the trophy I would buy it because I love the dam game that much I have some Hard House music tracks playing the background and it goes so dam well with it.
Plus it's 1 great shooters to pass the time away if your after a quick few mins of gaming I hope they create some more content for Blast Factor I can't do the expansion it's rock hard.

Here for a review of it bare in mind this review has the expansion pack to it for an extra £3 I believe (seperatly) but I think they have merged the 2 together for £5 not sure. I didn't know the co-op expansion was out because they usually put it on PSN store as well as the in-game store.
I know that new co-op expansion is going to be £5, this time thou it's my friends turn to buy it and share it with me because I've shared the Solo pack to SSHD and Advanced Pack to Blast Factor. All he's giving me is 1 lousy costume to Folklore his other games are not worth playing he's got Calling All Cars but to me that needs a serious content update.

You need 2 controllers as it's co-op, and the only way you can get it is if you have the co-op update.
