View Full Version : No Trophies in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

Hey Everyone -
With the latest Playstation 3 firmware now available, I see a lot of questions regarding how it effects Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.
At this time, we have no plans to patch in Trophy support for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare for the PS3. Much like DualShock rumble addition to the PS3, the support for these new features have come much to late for us to add it to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare due to our current production schedule.
We would have loved to have these in the game at launch if the support was available, or shortly after.

They could just have ported the 360's achievements over.

Who cares?! IW been screwing PS3 owners for a while now. They couldn't even add rumble, how hard is that?!

Is this really a surprise? They couldn't even be bothered to put rumble in.

Why should they add anything at all. They do have other games to make and such. It's not like they sit there, twaddling their thumbs. As much as we'd like to think of game developers.

Hmm... maybe people should boycot IW games hahahaha. Ok, that'll never happen. I don't really care because I don't want to have to play through it's single player again to get the trophies, and I don't play online on that game anymore for like months and have no desire to.
Seems kinda lazy, but I guess they don't want to go back and do it due to them working on other new games. Kinda makes it seem like they don't care about their fans/customers enough to add a nice feature for them....
Sad though when Resistnace Fall of Man will probably get trophies and that was a lauch game.Of course it's a 1stparty game though and I'm sure that makes a difference.

I Agree. As disappointed as i was when they didn't add Rumble I feel the same now, but developers have other things they are working on and can't devote resources to an old game over and over, with no return. Rumble/Trophies = No Return. New Map Pack = HUGE return. See my point. They're in this to make money, not to please every anti-social 15 year old with too much time on their hands.
Plus, i don't see anyone bashing Insomniac for not patching Resistance and Ratchet and Clank. Oh wait, you can't criticize them if you have their nuts in your mouth. I see now.

I'd hope they add trophies to Motorstorm so i could have a reason to play through it again :D It's addicting as it is already.

Well that sucks about trophies, but I would much rather have In-Game Music for this game so I could listen to my music on my HDD while I play online.

This is probably one of the better thought out posts regarding trophies that I've read yet. +rep for that. I don't agree entirely with your statement however. Little gimmicks such as rumble and trophies would have some value to people who know what companies develop what games, and they would be more inclined to purchase new games by these developers if they thought that they were trying to please the consumer even if not for monetary gain. That being said, I'm sure many of these companies have the whole "a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush" mentality so this doesn't really matter.

what that statement clearly says to me as that IW has totally moved on from CoD4 and the chances of us seeing ANYTHING added to this game are next to nothing....no more maps, weapons or any sort of DLC...sad really...

I agree considering it is probably one of the top 3 games currently played on PS3 next to GTA4 and MGS4.

i mean i honestly don't care for trophies THAT much...so if they don't want to patch them in, then fine...i can respect that...but it pretty much sucks getting confirmation in that way that the game is in a way a lame duck in the devs eyes...with little chance of further support...

I can still see them adding some new DLC into the game... since it would make them money in return, unlike trophies/rumble.
I don't think IW has too many things going on right now (since Treyarch is doing COD5) so I could definitely see them doing some new maps further down the road. There might not be a huge chance of it happening... but I definitely think that it's more than the chances being next to nothing.
About the trophies... I really don't mind it since as long as the game has multiplayer to keep you playing it... then there's really no reason for the trophies. I could see trophies in Assassin's Creed as a good thing because the game can (did) get repetitive after a little bit and with the lack of online there's really not many people that played it after they beat the story... and trophies would add extra gameplay to it. At least, as long as they're not as boring and useless as collecting all the flags from everywhere.

As sad as it sounds, that's actually multiple achievements on the 360. Collect all the flags in Masayaf (sp?), Acre, the center area between towns, Damascus, Jerusalem.... and in each town, there are multiple different sets of flags. 1 achievement for each set of flags in each town, I think it was about 8 or 9 achievements total for the flags. The rest was mainly for things you do during the game, beat the first act, get in the Animus.... boring crap to just boost your Gamerscore.
And this is why I don't care about Gamerscore on the 360, it's become one huge e-peen battle. I already compete in the online games as it is, I don't care about getting 100% before my friend does. Even though trophies have a slightly different approach, I can still see a similar thing happening to a lesser extent. "I'm a level 45 " says gamer A... "I'm only a level 30 " says gamer B...
Only time will tell, so we shall see.

Why should they? Well lets see why they should...First because the fans are wanting it and if they dont get it maybe they dont buy the next C.O.D game. Second, because it is like saying to all the people who bought the game "Hey we are too busy to do ANYTHING at all to make your gaming experience a little better right now, but please feel free to spend $60 on our next release, and maybe we'll think about giving a damn about what you want in a game" Those are the top two reason why they should have at the VERY LEAST added some rumble. They must not want to make any money of the next game they release and now with BF:BC maybe they wont get a chance to get as much money next time around on any C.O.D games. They are not the only game makers in the market. I bet you see other companies release patches real soon. Know why? Because they would like YOU to keep buying their product. Hey Genesis, what other games do they make? As far as I know C.O.D is the bread winner there, so if you know a game that they make that is even CLOSE in sales to the C.O.D series please let me know.

i agree with you man this could boost business for companies that do release patches.

To be honest they have no incentive to waste man hours adding rumble and trophy support.
If there was some monetary reward available for them then I'm sure they would.
Its one of the downsides of capitalism :s

It would have been interesting showing trophies in COD4, however thats life - Tyrech might be working on the trophy system for COD5.

Fair enough that Sony should have had rumble and trophies much earlier but how difficult is to to implement it?
COD4 would have been perfect for trophies with the 1, 2, and 3 stages of the online challenges to represent the bronze, silver and gold trophies and finally a platinum on for when you fully complete the different challenges like elite, beginner etc.

Not surprised in the least...Never bothered adding rumble, and lets be fair, the online aspect of COD4 is "broken" to a degree!

It really makes me upset that they wont add trophies or even rumble to this game. How could they not. It is literally the number 1 game for the system. Anyone else feel like this whole system sometimes seems a little.. backwards?

Well, there is a rumor that IW has already started working on an upcoming sci-fi title so for them, COD4 probably is old news. In any case, they DO have a point. We are in the middle of 2008 and the PS3 is just now getting features they should have already had in the first place. That's not IW's problem, ESPECIALLY if they're not even getting paid to do it.
Furthermore, COD4 isn't the only title that won't be getting trophy support. For all intents and purposes, Ninja Theory is DONE with Heavenly Sword so don't expect anything there either. The Orange Box? LMAO!!! There are probably several other games on PS3 that won't have it either. My guess is that only first party games and a very select few third party titles will have any kind of trophy support at all.
You have to remember, editing a completed game is NEVER as "easy" as it sounds or looks. What we think might take a day or two might end up taking months just for debugging and QC. Also consider that the devs/pubs aren't going to be able to charge for this, and Sony won't be paying them to do it so it would pretty much be free work.
Also, my guess is that Infinity Ward is a fairly small company. Every time a company has mass layoffs, there is always a note on COD4's online screen to let them know that they are hiring. They probably can't afford to put guys on COD4 to do free work. Right now, the best thing to hope for is that all future games will support trophies.
Also, considering the success of COD4, trophy support and rumble aren't really needed. If we see ANY third party games add this at all, it will most likely be the ones that did not do very well and see this as an opportunity to boost sales.

You know it is a bit funny to me that all I keep seeing in this thread is how IW shouldn't do it because they wont get any money for it. Ok, I see that point, but shouldn't they do SOMETHING for the people who spent MONEY on that game? Who cares about the games they are working on? I don't! I won't buy s*** from them! Know why? Because they don't care about the gamers! If they wanted to increase their profit then they would add a least one feature to their flagship game! This is how you build a good relationship with your consumor. se7enthsign, how can they boost sales on a already top selling game? Ummm...here's an idea.....add a feature that people want and the people who don't have the game may go out and get it. I think I speak for everyone when I say that I dont give a damn how small the company is.....they werent to small to take $60 a game from, oh what like, 4 million people. As for third party DEVS adding features...LMAO, you don't think any will? I am willing to bet that Rockstar does and they sold much MORE than C.O.D and I am betting on MGS4 doing it as well. Know why? Because Rockstar and Konami actually care about what pleases their consumors. Doing a little extra now for your fan base will pay off later when you release future tittles. People will remember that these companies went out and improved on your gaming experience and you will know that you can trust these companies to do right by the games, the features, and the most important thing of all YOU THE GAMER!
