I downloaded fw 2.4 and after being in delight at the in game xmb (with mgs4) I decided to load my game and all of a sudden everything went black and now my ps3 won't turn on I've had my 60 gig since a little after launch so obviously I can't use the warranty and I at this time can not afford the $150 to fix something that wasn't my fault.Any help even where I can complain to try and get it fixed for free would be nice and my mgs4 is still stuck. The light now goes from green to yelleow then blinks red.

I have a blinking red light problem, but not the same one that everyone else seems to have. My PS3 will eventually work!
Every time my TV is turned off, then turned back on, I can recreate the exact sequence of events:
1) Turn on the PS3 (quick press of the power button)
2) Green light is on for about 15 seconds
3) Beeps 3 times, and I get the red blinking light
4) Turn off the PS3 (quick press of the power button)
5) Turn on the PS3 (quick press of the power button)
6) PS3 works as expected.
No way the unit is overheating out in the open well ventilated. It is brand new. Have it hooked up directly into a Samsung HLR-5067w DLP TV (circa 2005). I am guessing this has something to do with the HDMI connection, and how it is interacting with the TV. I currently have the HDMI cable feeding the TV, and the optical audio out feeding my receiver for sound.

what the hell is going on?!!!!! why isn't $ony doing a recall like microsoft did?
this is b.s.
@astrozombie - sometimes the YLDO is related to powersupply issues. possibley order a new powersupply (ebay) and fit it your self. otherwise try a independent repairer.

You ever figure out what the deal was? I just ran into the same problem. blinking red. According to the manual it's overheating, but it's been in the same spot for the past 20 months out in the open, sometimes running folding for days at a time and I've never had the problem before.

Hey guys, this exact same thing has happened to me too, but the sequence of events is slightly different:
1) Red Standby Light
2) Goes Green for about 1 second
3) The Green turns to a yellow light
4) Followed by a "beep beep beep"
5) Finally left with a blinking red light
I cannot get the disc out or anything.
The best thing to do is call Sony and describe to them exactly what happens, they managed to diagnose my problem over the phone, supposedly the yellow light means a fan failure.
Even though my ps3 is just out of warranty (since august), Sony said that they are going to provide me with a new one for free, and we doing are doing a straight exchange at my door in the next week.
Hope I helped :)

It's KAPUT !! try to get it replaced or buy a new one there is no fix for it. There's only a thousand threads for this i dont understand why people feel the need to have their own topic. :punching self in face:
