Sony fully supportive of devs wanting to patch trophies into old games

Sony's PlayStation Network director of operations, Eric Lempel, has said that Sony will fully support any developers who want to patch trophies into their games that are already on sale.

"Right off the bat when the firmware update goes live we'll be patching Super Stardust HD, so that game will include Trophies from Wednesday," Lempel told Next-Gen (http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=11182&Itemid=2). "We're also patching Warhawk and PAIN, while Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, a completely offline title, will also be patched over the network, so it's definitely an option for developers and we're fully supporting first and third parties that want to patch, and of course those that want to implement this system going forward with new titles."

There are still a few features missing in the new update, but Lempel added that 2.4 wouldn't be the last PS3 firmware enhancement. "We're not going to stop enhancing the features. Every time we do a firmware update we enhance old features as well as providing new features, so we're taking a lot of the feedback very seriously. Going into this we knew there were some things that wouldn't make it but there's always time to fix those and get them in, but in the meantime this should keep consumers satisfied for some time."

And it look likes PSN will remain free, at least for the short term. "We're happy with what we're doing right now and we're going to stick with it," he stated. "I think being free is always an advantage. The fact that it's free is nice for consumers who want to try out the online experience, those who may be new to it and may not be ready to commit to spending dollars, and that's a really good message for us.

"Being free also gives them the opportunity to spend the money that they may have spent on a subscription on online items or online games instead. We have a ton of games for the price of a subscription and offer a significant amount of great original content that you can't get anywhere else."

Next firmware upgrade should allow in-game music without any need for devs to update their code! Also include PS2 in-game music support as well.

Devs probably have their hands full with titles in development, so its good that Sony haven't enforced anything on them 8) As to the system itself, its fantastic - devs would be crazy not to start using it.

Hopefully older titles like Resistance and Ratchet get patched eventually, but you have to understand Insomniac focusing on R2 now, its common sense to feature upcoming titles and devote hours towards their 'in-progress' stuff :D

Patience is key here, but we've already got a nice little bunch of games that have them on day 1.. and Burnout soon.. with Uncharted hopefully not far away.. so it sounds good to me 8)

The battle system for FF XIII appears to have taken a much more.. active route fi we can believe the trailers "gameplay" is what they are aiming for.
Also, what about trying Final Fantasy Versus XIII? Its more of an action game like Dirge Of Cerbrius.

And no :) you dont need to play the others, each game has a totally different story, characters and place :D wxcept the very few spin offs - but with each new number is a totally new start.

my gf bought me uncharted but i have yet to play it cuz of all the 2.4 talk.....and i dont even have R&C yet.....

i guess ill be gettin alot of trophies without having to delete a game save to get the trophies.....

well except for SSHD......i had to start over in that......

its really good, i was constantly rolling in water due to the graphics!!!! it was really cool to see the clothes actually look wet! And his clothes stick to him and through the game noticibly see his clothes dry off.

Source? Wheres your source on this I hope its true because if you leave it up to the devs it will get support for 360 but won't for the PS3 you know that will happen.

Ugh, my internet died last night due to Nero MediaHome somehow, so I'm downloading 2.4 right now. Its going surprisingly fast. Probably the fastest update for me so far. And actually, it jumped from 67% to 100% just now lol.

I wish Ratchet and Clank would get trophies, along with Resistance 1. That'd be great.

PSN will definitely not cost this generation. And BTW, @efs5030 - you quoted something the editor of the article threw in there, not something that anyone at Sony said. Sony has always said the PSN will remain free.

your right it will not cost this generation, Eric Lempel did state that they are keeping the PSN free. With the consumer paying for games on the PSN he said it would be unfair to charge a monthly fee on top of that.

Since i unlock my first trophy on SSHD yesterday makes me want play games has trophy and buy more PS3 games. So lets hope they bring more games with trophy

Lol this is the type of game that deserve Trophies and I bet they will be fun to get. I just hope we get an update for it.
