View Full Version : GTA4 clearer on 360 than ps3??

Por2geezGuy

So i played GtA on the 360 today then switched to ps3 and noticed that the 360's graphics are clearer and my 360 is hooked up to a normal tv where my ps3 is hooked up to hdmi. Ign says that gta on ps3 has better graphics but it doesnt seem like it. Im not sure if the settings on the ps3 are getting the best out of it for gta but does anyone else have gta for both systems and agree with me?

Oh please not again not another graphics comparison thread, no offence to the OP but these threads always go the same way.

I don't see how even the worst settings on a HD tv, via HDMI, would look worse than a SD picture.

Can you post all your video settings for the PS3.

There's not much of a difference, the 360 is a little sharper but that just means you see the jaggies better.

Could we even get some images or something to show your comparison instead of another old thread that will just cause chaos. :D

Well GTA IV is 640p (around there) on the PS3 while being 720p on 360, so that could be why.. The PS3 version looked a little blurrier to me as well, but I didn't really notice it until I played the 360 version as well lol

Until he posts his settings, there isn't anything to really discuss. The issues on image quality with like settings has already been done to death here, as well as countless other places in the gaming world.

yep 360 is sharper, but you see more jaggies, but if you try to zoom in on something you'll see its a bit better on the ps3, main difference for me was definitley less popin on the ps3, but thats my opinion.

Nah that whole pop-in thing was waaay overblown, it was an issue with review / pirated copies but there's no pop-in in the retail game.

why does it matter, did we need to know this?

I think most people have passed caring about gta:iv especially which version is "better"

I have played GTA on both the 360 and PS3 and imo I think it looks much better on PS3. Why? because when I looked at it on the 360 it looked jaggy and the colours were too bright for me.

Well i must have got a review copy of the game! the pop-in is better on the ps3 for me, its really not that bad, you only notice it when you compare the versions. 360 by itself you wouldnt notice it.

There's no more pop-in on my 360 version than my PS3 version, how old is your 360 console?

I've played both version's UK(although it shouldn't matter) both on HDTV's and the 360 version looks more blurred and pop in can be terrible. Theres nothing on the scale of buildings but it's the little newspaper stands and bollards as well as some trees that really make driving off road difficult.

samonuske

got when gears came out, but replaced twice, id say its been over a year now. But anyway i think its not a big deal, maybe im just being picky thats all - i was dissapointed in the game, this maybe my way of taking the frustration out.

The part that was always popping in for me was the second island, where the road sort of goes underneath a bridge, near the edge of the island. When you go really fast down there you dont see the road dip, and trees popping in that was about it.

Played both for a while... finished the PS3 version though and the differences aren't big. Sometimes the 360 is clearer but the PS3 looks better in dusk and night time and the 360 looks better in day. For me anyway. Both played great though so that is what matters.

The 360 has jaggies and pop-ins where as the PS3 version is said to not look so good but has few jaggies if any and zero pop-ins (at least when I played).

I think you just want to believe that the 360 has no pop in.
Your mind is already set on the idea. I'm not saying it's your fault but you may be fooling yourself. This has been discussed by professional game reviews. They surely didn't review with a pirated copy.

I have both on side by side LCDTV's, they both look and run horrible. Both have pop in. Both have dithering issues. Both have frame rate issues. They both do lighting differently. They are just about identical, i tried to choose a winner but really there is none. They both needed more time.

And yes there is pop in on the 360, not to mention there is videos on gametrailers of this so i dont know what game they are playing but to say there is none is a flat out lie.

I saw photos on gamespot or something before the game was released, and PS3 looked so much better in the pictures and the video they posted.

Havnt played in real life, but on the Ps3 everything looks amazing on my SDTV, maybe your HDTV is just ****.

Your right, damn. I'll brb I'm snapping my 360 disc now, I realise now that it's just been a big smokescreen I have been putting up to stop myself seeing the truth. This whole time I thought I had been playing it without any pop-in has just been my wishful thinking.

The 360 version of GTA IV is a complete disaster and the PS3 version is 9999999x better than it, what was I thinking?

The graphics are the same, but the brightness, contrast and saturation on the 360 version is higher thus making it easier to see. I can confirm this seeing as how ive played both versions. My ps3 requires me to set everything up all the way for it to look like the 360 version does at default.

Me too, the PS3 version definitely has less pop-in but it also has way way way more jaggies.

Niko's safehouse in hove beach or the second safehouse (the one they escape to) are the best examples of pop-in on the 360 version. You walk in to the room and it's empty.

ok well here is the actual differences in the 2.

the 360 is a little sharper. but the Ps3 has better draw distance and affects. (especially explosions) but other than that they are the the same.

this is FACT i have compared the 2. i am no fanboy of ither system. i play video games NOT game systems.in my opinion the slight blur is worth the better affects. but other people would disagree. take it as you will. but those are the facts

blur effect on PS3 makes it look more cinematic and if you zoom you'll notice that the detail is better on ps3, no jaggies and stuff.

Message: We hooked up the Turbographix to HDMI and the PS3 to a black & white 15" TV from the 60's. The Turbo looked much clearer and more funner than playing MGS4 on the PS3. Besides, the cartidges load instantly no like Blue Raye.
My sister says its because the turbo can process more sprites that the PS3. Ken Kutaragi lied.
Do you guys agree?

Hehe...

So did you follow through and break the disc?

on topic - I own all three consoles and have only played this on my 360. I didn't care much for it, I played it for 30 min or so and then took it back. only happened to get 1 achievement. Ohh well.

But I have seen the ps3 version played and to me it runs alittle smoother.

Whatever though, I just want to play game. I don't care which console they look better on.

PS3 version is 640p while the 360 version is 720P BUT, the PS3 has less pop ups and does not suffer from the dithering that is in the 360 version.

PS3 version also is V Sync locked, so no tearing, unlike the 360 version.

He wasn't saying that, Cronk. You know that......but are you really calling everyone who has reported the 360 version to have pop-in a liar and claiming that it has no POP-IN?

360 version has been reported to have more pop-in, how much of that is true? I don't know....but clearly, not everyone is lying?

isnt blurry means more antialiasing, motion blur and water effects?
if you have configured pc video setting before the sharper it is = less effects
blurry = more effects.

doesn't matter no one likes this game any more anyways...... (i do though)
I just wonder who at MS got fired for giving R* 50M for DLC when after 1 week of getting 10's everyone is bored and hates the game now.. i wonder how many people even finished the game never mind will want DLC in 6 months. i still enjoy the game because i never expected much in the first place every GTA has had it issues and i still enjoyed them this one is no different .. as for the graphics who cares it doesn't matter what system looks better or how many times people try to sway people one way or the other everyone who will buy this game has this game. just because 360 might have cleaner picture or whatever (every review site seems to disagree that there is no real difference besides color) it will not make someone who owns it on PS3 to go out and buy it on 360.

Seriously, how much more true could that be!?

What's the point of thus thread and why isn't it posted somewhere else, like in the 360 section, two months ago. There's pop in/out in both versions and each one has their own graphical strengths and weaknesses, also, did the OP buy both versions of the game at the same time? What's the point?

There is on the 360 version, I had it completely spaz out on me maybe 3 or 4 times over the 100hours of playing. It wasn't as bad as it was made out no but it happen. Though you are right in that people who played the pirated version then the retail did find the pirated version had some really bad pop in issues. Serves them right.

GTA4 had a lot to live up to....so it was bound to let a few people down, specially when the expectations are so high.

I think it was just as good as the previous GTA games have been...and that's really all Rockstar needed to do.
