Actually x360 is around 19m worldwide

However many x360s were traded in for PS3/Wii in europe. so in a sense PS3 might be 2m/3m within x360s base even before MGS4's release

The European market is very different. I think it'd be neat if there were "official" numbers.

On the other hand: Compare Famitsu, Media Create, and VGC numbers for Japan. My guess is that MC is the most accurate, but they all wobble some, and VGC is not noticably worse than Famitsu. In the end, past the first year or two, you can pretty much assume that the gap between sold-to-retailers and sold-to-consumers is insignificant.

The European market is very different. I think it'd be neat if there were "official" numbers.

On the other hand: Compare Famitsu, Media Create, and VGC numbers for Japan. My guess is that MC is the most accurate, but they all wobble some, and VGC is not noticably worse than Famitsu. In the end, past the first year or two, you can pretty much assume that the gap between sold-to-retailers and sold-to-consumers is insignificant.

I see, therfore when a company shows there shipped numbers. Would we take them as sold as the difference between shipped and sold would not have a large value?

I dont think sony deserves to catch up until they get their heads out of their asses and start doing better, if they can be this lazy and win this gen then that just means they will be even lazier next gen if at all possible.

If the reason why their figures arent changing much is mainly due to the fact their not able to produce the machines fast enough says alot.

It doesnt even matter if the wii is appealing to a different market than the PS3/xbox 360. By not really competing with the other two systems and targeting a different audience Nintendo have done something very impressive this gen.

Not to mention being able to make a profit on every machine sold.

edit:- I whish people would stop calling it a fad. As it has been going strong since its launch day the Wii has proven that it is more than just a fad.

It seems improbable. We're nearly two full years in, and they're still boosting production without a single price cut. They haven't even started on the larger market yet -- the market of people who have refused to buy consoles for over $200.

Meanwhile, Nintendo's doing the same thing with Wii games that they did with DS games. Brain Age and Nintendogs opened up new markets; Mario Kart DS and Phantom Hourglass brought those users into more "upmarket" gaming. Wii Fit and Wii Sports are opening up new markets, and just about the time those players are starting to want something a bit meatier, Nintendo's offering SMG and Mario Kart, while third-party imitators are launching badly-done minigame collections.

This is going to be a "fad" about the way the NES was.

GFK and Charttrack posts Weekly SW~ and HW~ numbers for almost all regions of europe.

In most of those charts except UK u will only find PS3 and Wii games

PS3 and Wii sales are almost even in most parts of europe . For x360 europe is gone .(It is the least selling console in europe despite costing 1/2 as much as a PS3)

A few people brought it up thinking it was okay now, but the majority did not. It still isn't a particularly valid site for getting numbers. I think it's a myth created by proponents of VGChartz's inaccurate and potentially stolen numbers that people like VGChartz when their console choice is doing well. It's certainly a pretty site, and the charts it has immediately after correcting themselves based on everyone else's data aren't bad.

x360 is around 11m in NA...600k in JAPAN . there is no way it would be around 8.5 m in europe --especially when MS themselves released statement that they reached 5m in europe days ago

PS3 has surpassed x360's sales in europe and is at 7m in PAL region with 6m in europe

as for sales no x360 game except GTA4 ever charted on the charts of SPAIN/GERMANY /FRANCE and ITALY

MS has said thate they shipped 19m in MAY..so 19.5 m is accurate(SHIPMENT)

You look at the sales -PS3 and wii have seen increases in US vs adecrease for x360 (JAN -MAY). PS3 and Wii both outsold the x360 in terms of cumulative sales for those 5 regions

as for japan and europe ..x360 sales are not worth mentioning except UK where PS3 and x360 sales are neck and neck
