I just bought a 60GB PS3 on Ebay a bit ago and have been enjoying it for about 3 days. It has been working fine. I updated to the latest firmware yesterday, and it worked for a day. However, now upon startup, the OS never loads and my TV stays blue. I'm connected through the HDMI port, and have also tried the AV port, with no results. The PS3 turns on and the fan runs, and it sounds to me like it reads discs fine, yet nothing shows up on screen. What can I do to fix it? Thanks!

It worked with this setup yesterday, and I have also tried the AV cable and switched the TV to AV setting. Same result.

Shut down your PS3 then restart by pressing and holding the power button. This will reset your PS3 to its most basic 480p graphics mode so you'll be able to see enough to choose RGB SCART, component, HDMI or whatever from here.
Try that. Should be the first thing you try. It happens every now and then.

If thats all your still getting then theres nothing anyone here can do for you mate, only thing you can do now is to give sony a ring, you can find the number for them in any game manual :)

Ok, I believe I have pinpointed the issue. I took the hard drive out of the PS3 and connected it to my laptop via a SATA cable. My computer read the SATA cable fine, but could not detect the hard drive. This leads me to believe I have a bad hard drive. So I have a couple new questions.
If I'm going to get a new hard drive, what is the type of hard drive I'd need. Can someone link me to a compatible product, preferably from newegg? And if I get a new hard drive, how do I get the PS3 OS installed? Thanks again.

All you need is a 2.5 inch SATA drive, preferably one that runs at 5400rpm. The PS3's OS is stored on FLASH ROM and not the HDD, when you put the new HDD in the PS3 will format it.
This one here seems just as good as any! (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822116025)
Edit: There is a chance that buying a new HDD will not solve your problem, just making sure you know this
