I am not home right now or I would check. What screen format is the ps3 set up for when you bring home from the store. 4:3 or 16:9? The reason I'm asking is because I didn't change it when setting it up for the first time. I have a 50" lcd widescreen. And I watched Fantastic Four RotSS so far and that movie filled the screen. So maybe the ps3 is defaulted to 16:9. Just curious. Thanks

Really - I could have sworn I had to adjust something in the display settings of my PS3 to get rid of "black bars" on the display of my Samsung 16:9 LCD TV (which doesn't auto upscale).
I've seen some TV's that "upscale" 4:3 signals so they fill the entire screen - if your TV does this, and you PS3 isn't set to display 16:9 by default you may actually be seeing a distorted image because your TV is stretching the signal to fit the screen. And you might not even notice it - the amount of people I've seen with widescreen PC monitors still displaying 1024*768 (or equivalent) resolution, and don't seem to notice it's distorted is amazing.
To the OP - if I was you, I'd check your PS3 display settings next time just incase.

It depends on how you connect it the first time. if it dosent detect HDMI it will instantly go to standard def, 4:3. This will alow you to do you first time set-up that will take you to the highest def depending on which ever connection you actually are using.
