Feeder have been around for over a decade since their debut mini album 'Swim' Back in 1995/96, followers will have noticed that theres been alot of changes in their sound, and personally every album is their own, and shouldnt be compared.

So the new album Silent Cry released only a few days ago back on the 16th June 2008 is available in the UK (unsure of other areas) though all shops and on Amazon.co.uk / HMV.com / Zavvi.com ect. has been highly anticipated by my self and fans of Feeder.

The Album Its Self.
The whole album 'Silent Cry' Is Heavy like their earlyer work, but yet melodic like their most recent work, the lyrics are spot on, Ive seen reviews who were hoping the same as Polythene or Echo Park, and they should be lined up and shot personally, this album is in its own right somthing of a different sound, as with all the other albums.

Its full of the old Feeder songwritting method of Verse, Chorus, Verse, Bridge, Outro. Nothing wrong with it because Feeder are a band that can execute this in a fasion like no other. With that in mind this album does pack another suprise, the whole album has been souly produced by the band them selfs, and they have really hit the nail on what sound they wish to make with this very album.

If you expecting somthing like their more recent work, or their early days music then your setting your self up for a dissapointment. Thankfully for the people who are smart enough to belive Feeder dont do follow up albums your in for a real treat.

Track 1 - We Are The People

Feeder - We Are The People (!http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Zr_LgUiFSyg)

The first track plunges you straight into an anthmic riff with the trademark chainsaw buzz of Grants guitar, with an echoing voice as if he is calling out to all the people, pre-chours Marks drums are breating down along with the buzz of the guitars, then boom! "We are the people!" Sung out with a soft 'Whooo' In the back that just makes the track feel compleate.

Also notes to the bridge part gives me a rush with such a mesmerable riff on the guitar, and an excellent choice of lyrics to back it all up with.

Track 2 - Itsumo

'Itsumo' is Japanise for 'Always' (at least thats what my reserch says, kthnx google bb) the track is introduced with the chiming of the high notes on the gutar and a trippy drum beat, then income abit more of a buzz of the guitar but not overpowering to the current loop, the lyrics are though provoking and mesmeric, then in come the pre-chorus wich really does build you up "Dont say that you know me, unless you wanna stay around, dont say that you know me, show me, shoot me down, Itsumo!"

The moment it hits Itsumo the chorus plunges into another anthemic mood, not with as much of a rocky one like We are the people but still it will litterally have you singing along its fantastic. This track shines with what talants the band has picked up from going back to its roots of beeing a rock band but also the melodic albums of Pushing the Sences and Comfort in Sound also showing that they have put two and two togeather.

Track 3 - Miss You

Alast the track every one knows, the reason? Feeder Released this song not as a single but as a teaser to get them geared up for what they are abouts to experiance.

Out of all the tracks this is the most loudist one on there, Instanly the one time guitar riff that sets the pace and the style of the song then plugs you straight in with drums and Taka's bass kicking off after one round of it. The Clean voice of Grant and echoing of waleing guitars brings you back to the really early days of just a day, buck rodgers era (See Echo Park album)
The lyrics used are hoping this could be on GT5 ;)

Marks waltzy drums pre chorus are entertaining and the the main riff kicks in, the chorus had me bobbing your head up and down faster then the churchil dog will be saying 'ooooooh yes!'. The bridge is one of the most amazing bridges ive heard the wale of the high notes on the guitar with the lyrics used "Keeps on falling, Jumping falling, theres never been an easy way" echoing off will bring many feeder fans back to the echo park album era.

Track 4 - Tracing Lines

The beggining of the track is very melodic with the drums and guitars (kinda reminds me of Kelly Clarkson - Since You've Been Gone) But then it changes when the bass of the drums are put in and a stepping up like riff is thrown in. This is the first track that is alittle more low paced, this has alot of melody in it, and the lyrics go along with this very well.

The chorus does put in some over drive but not too much to mess the track up, what shines on this track is Grants Singing, it has greatly improved, back in 05 Feeder had to re-schedual some dates as Grant had blood on his vocal chords. Since then his singing has been alot more dynamic and has been better than ever, this song will have you singing along with a lovley smile :)

Track 5 - Silent Cry

This isnt necessarly a sad song but it certenly does lower the pace abit, the beggining starts off with a Snow partol-ish riff to give you an idea. The lyrics are thought provoking and the first time we hear the voilins to back up the quiter drums and little or no bass in the song while the guitar riffs away.

Then come hence a slap of over drive on the chorus on the guitar and bass to give it some energy and the drums kicking up a notch, with the voilins beeing higher pitched, with the words "Oh my God what have i done" this song is somthing that makes you feel like your in dispare, or done somthing irrivesable.

With the bridge of the guitar beeing an excellent choice to complement with the backing voilins it makes the album feel alot more accomplished than their other albums.

Track 6 - Fires

Back into the anthemic ryrthem and this track does not dissapoint, with the big booming drums and the high pitched echo of the guitar and chunky bass riff to pace you back up after Silent Cry. After the formal introduction of what the track is going to be like, things do quiet down a notch to give space for Grants Echoing Vocals. The chorus then swings in full force with a less echo-y Grant to deliver the lyrics perfectly with the full fat intoduction of the song.

The chorus gives you an 'All-or-nothing' Feel as if you was gearing up for somthing. Then the bridge lyrics are the best ever with such a feeling of going onto a hilltop and singing it out aloud. Putting you in a compleate Anthemic euphoria, just like some songs from other bands like Coldplay - Fix you or Snow Patrol - Open your eyes. This deffinatly delivers the great feeling you get from listening to such music.

Track 7 - Heads Held High

There would be one track, that brings you down, i belive this track could have been better placed as its acoustic and feels like radiohead. But yet after you get past the first part it does pick up abit with Taka's bass and Marks Drums. It gives you a really refreshing realisation of hope as it nears the end and ends with the same kind of feeling like you would get from their album Pushing The Sences track Morning Life.

Track 8 - 8:18

A clean guitar intro then introduces the drums and bass with a fuzzy "Whooey" but then it turns into abit more of a dance beat when the bass stops. And gives some room needed for Grants vocals, infact it reminds me alot of The Postal Service, especially when Taka's bass comes back in, lower and buzzyer than before. The the chorus just throws you into the overdrive and delivers some thing that you would say to some one you was breaking up with, one of the best tracks on the album, as it feels compleate and its Feeders own trade mark buzz and melodys you could heard if you put their songs into a blender.

Track 9 - Who's The Enemy

I always listen to this track, it deffinatly stands out from the other tracks compleatly. The miliary march of Marks Drums with the twinkling guitar from Grand and Taka's bass just makes the whole track stand out as its own. you then have the voilins, two types of em, going along with it, making the track feel compleate. Then you hear the roar of Grants guitar as he belts out the lyrics "Lets forget!" with the voilins ryming along with the guitar.

What makes this track stand out is its bridge, sounds alot like the track they did in 05 called 'Shatter' the crushing guitar going down the scale with the violins is absolutly breath taking. One of my favouret tracks instantly.

Track 10 - Space

A quick 30 second filler to join the tracks up.

Track 11 - Into The Blue

A recognisable drum beat introducses this track and with a light buzzy guitar the track is very mesmerable and will have you humming it for hours, some people dont like songs that stick in your head, but this is a good song to have stuck. With this beeing the shortest track on the album theres not alot to say, its just simple, clean and pop-rock wich fits in the right place on the album.

Track 12 - Guided By A Voice

This one plays out compleatly differently again its not anthemic but rather slowing down for the end of the album, it does however give a nice clean riff though out with drums to fit. Mainly for the verse part however, because it kicks up come the chorus and gives us the authentic Feeder sound people have come to know and love. Not their best track, but worth having as it does diffuse a warm glow from it.

Track 13 - Sonourus

This being the last track, goes off with a bang! But its also quite depressing through the verse, what happend to the anthemic sound? Well come pre chourse it snuck in there! Its like your depressed but you find somthing in there that keeps you going as the lyrics "Dont give up, you have us, we'll find a way" You can feel exactly what Grant is writing about in his song, about depression, or breaking up with a loved one, but to never give up, and keep on going. An excellent bridge to boot gives this the perfect end to what is one of the best ever albums made by the band.

But wait theres more....

If you bought the Deluxe version you get a nice sleve with your album and two extra tracks!

Tack 14 - Yeah Yeah

A pop into into this song reminds you of Buck Rodgers, it will have you singing "yeah yeah" all along, the riffs are fantastic and twind with the drumming wich should have been in the album where Heads held high is. But never the less a treat worth buying if you are looking to get the album.

Track 15 - Every Minute

Finally if you bought the Delux like myself, this is the last one! We made it!!!

This is abit of a rock / indie twisting track, but then has elements of pop that i can put my finger on what this track is suppost to be, i guess its a good thing as its somthing different from everything else. And it does work, where as you have people who attempt to mix styles up and get it all messed up. Again a nice addition if you get the deluxe album.

PS4lifes Final Verdict.

Well All in all its an album like no other, from a band like no other, still going strong and returning back to their roots, they made the right decision on producing the album them selfs, as you can cleary see what they are aiming for. If you are too much into the older Feeder stuff and hoping this would be the same, then your setting your self up for dissapointment, i would say take the album 'as is' dont try and compare it to others, you would really love this album if you keep an open mind to it.

Very good review and while I agree with nearly all you'r points I still have to say that Echo Park is still theyr best album to date. But thats my personal opinion.

Personal opinions are appreciated in this thread, you are right Echo park was their best album, but at least you didnt try and compare the two wich many other reviewers did and said the album isnt as good.

But as i said keeping an open mind to it and not thinking of it being their previous work, you will actually hear the exact sound they are after and its like crack to me, i love it!

I do know what you mean, and I do think its a very good album and definitely one of their best. Just not THE best if you get me.

Miss you would probably have to be their best song on the new album. But is it only me that thinks that the Intro sounds a lot like the chorus from Buck Rodgers?

Im glad I found another Feeder fan as most people I talk to find them quite bland. I dont know how they can say that thought as their certainly not bland.
