I hooked up the ps3 40 gb through hdmi cable on the downstairs tv, now if I try to hook up with component on upstairs(or downstairs) tv it wont read the connection.
I was using the component hook up with no problem on both tvs, now after I hooked up once through hdmi I am unable to hook up through component at all...am I missing something here?

The problem is, it is my father in laws ps3 and his tv does not have hdmi, so now I screwed him out of playing anywhere but on my tv..

any help is appreciated
thanks

I think some people have mentioned before when you change the cables on the initial start-up hold down the power button for 5-10 secs

I've read this in other topics on this forum, not sure if that'll help

Do what this guy says. Turn on your PS3 using the power button, hold it down till it beeps again and it will reset the video settings allowing you to output through component again. You will have to do this everytime you switch from HDMI to component. The PS will not output on two different cables at the same time.

Um... I'm pretty sure it resets it to outputting through COMPOSITE, NOT component! (It also resets Audio Out settings, so if you're using Optical to output Audio, make sure to reset your settings... Yes, a pain, I know... Ugh).

So you'll need to keep your good 'ol crappy Composite cables nearby...

The last time I did this it asked me on start up which one I wanted to use, can't remember what lead I was using at the time though

I just spend two hours setting up component output yesterday.

Trust me, it reverts to composite ;).

I wasn't arguing with you, was just saying I couldn't remember which cable I had plugged in at the time. Going back to composite makes sense, its the leads the PS3 was supplied with and there isn't a TV I know of that can't accept composite video. But 2 hours to setup component???
