Just got the ps3, setting it up etc
Got a hmdi cable (belkin) but on the box it says nothing about connecting games consoles :s although it is 1080 and version 1:3. My dad says the guy in the shop said it would work with the ps3.
When i turn the ps3 on, it says " a hdmi has been detected, want to use it for digital audio and video?
i click yes......
and a few seconds later, the same screen comes up again and again :(
please help!
btw, do i need to purchase an ethernet cable to play online? or is it in the console already?
Help asap :(

If you have a wireless router than it will connect to it.
HDMI problem, no idea.

HDMI issue not a clue, take the cable back try another if there's a problem find someone with a working cable and test your ps3 on it
If it's not working then you know it's the ps3 not cable, or could it be the tv has it ever recieved anything in HDMI before that worked on it? just figure out what's wrong by doing some tests and you'll have your answer
As for the ethernet cable check the box where it tells you the contents, you got an ethernet cable listed there then it's in the box somewhere, lurking in the deep :D
BTW Congrats on getting a ps3 :D

The update'll depend on your internet speed, me with my half a mb broadband takes me quite a while i'll admit
And well with the hdmi I still stand by what I suggested just do simple things to check stuff like check if the cable works on something else with hdmi, check another hdmi cable with the ps3 and check that the tv can run something outputting hdmi
hope that all made sense :D what game(s) you got then?

I'de say hold the the on button on the front and hold it until you hear a second beep. This should reset it, if this doesn't work. Take it back yeh.
Good luck man (y)

what kind of cable are you using to connect the ps3 to the TV besides the newly procured HDMI ?
did it occur to you that you might want to swap your TV's choice of input from composite or component to HDMI after you click on OK ?
Also, your ps3 probably has wireless connectivity so buy a router to go with your internet modem and use that instead

Sounds like you are not changing your TV source to display the HDMI input. once you click yes for the PS3 to use the HDMI.... you have to change the source on your TV to HDMI to view the HDMI from the PS3. It should show a 30 second countdown timer asking if you want to keep the setting.

I think the above post as the solution to your problem.
Take off the normal scart cable you´re using and plug the HDMI one. After that, turn your PS3 on by holding the power button (on the console itself) for like 10 seconds. It will beep and return to normal defaults. After that it will pick the HDMI cable (since its the only one plugged) as the default display.
Try it.
