Hi everyone this is my 1st post here.
Does anyone know if these work with the PS3 to allow online play?
As its USB and will probably need some software installed for use with a laptop or desktop PC I would of thought that they probably wont but would be save me money and hassle if they do.
Worth an ask isnt it?
Heres an example of what I mean for anyone who doesnt know...

Nope, USB Dongles are not supported.
The PS3 requires a Wi-fi Hotspot in order to allow Infrastructure network play (i.e. Online multiplayer). This generally comes in the form of a Router or a Broadband modem with built-in router functionality.
There are USB Dongles for the PC that will allow the PC to act as a Wi-fi hotspot, but I don't think you'll be saving much money getting a 49.99 or 59.99 USB Dongle instead of a sub 50 dollar router (Plus, the router comes with built-in NAT filtering--or Firewall, in simple terms).

Hey guys, I've got the same problem.
I live in Italy in the country side so telephone internet is out of the question unfortunately.
Is there anyway I can use my PC as a slave to the Ps3? We have a wireless router and a USB dongle but I can't seem to get the PS3 to connect to the net using it and I can't find the proxy settings for my PC (It's using Vista in Italian, thank you Bill gates you sausage head)
any help would be most appreciated. JD

Then how are you connecting to the internet.
If you have a wirless router, and your PC can connect to that so should your PS3. You not need to go through the PC.
PS3 should find your network, enter wireless key, and be on.

If your existing wireless router is successfully accessing the internet, then there's no reason why your PS3 can't do the same thing.
Unless of course, the reason this issue came up is that you've got a USB mobile broadband dongle which you are using on your PC. And you have a wireless network router (as opposed to an adsl router) in hope of having the PS3 network connect to the PC to gain internet access that way...
I'm sure it's possible to have the PC share it's connection - there's certainly an option in there somewhere that states "Allow other devices to access the internet through this computer", but I've no experience in configuring such a setting, only that you'd have to have the PC's ip address listed as the Gateway address in the PS3's network settings.
But another way you might want to address this issue, is to get a replacement wireless router that is 3G/USB Dongle aware. There are a couple of them on the market, and they might be a better bet for you. I believe Draytek's new 2820 is capable of such a connection.

Hi guys,
Mobile broadband expert here.
Unfortunately there are NO Mobile broadband devices set up to be plugged into your PS3, it would be cool to however it isnt possible unfortunately.
As pointed out the one way you can use mobile broadband with your PS3 is to plug it into your XP / Vista PC and run internet connection sharing through it, although this could hamper your performance if your PC is slow.
Also for all UK Mobile Broadband providers (T-mobile UK, 3 UK, Orange UK, Vodafone UK) all have poor ping rates, meaning you will lag like hell any how.
On the bright side of things as T-mobile UK and 3 UK are consolidating their UMTS (3G) networks together this might pave way for enough network capacity to eliminate the lag problem, this is expected to be completed at the end of 2008.
BT as well are in works to completely replace their UK copper wire network with Fibre optics and should provide speeds of up to 100MBPS.
Last but not least, don't believe im being lopsided when i say that orange are currently the worst mobile broadband providers, T-mobile has much better coverage and are tons better value for money (Unlimited use is subject to a fair use policy of 3GB, if you go over 3GB you still don't get charged!).

The reason I'm doing it is because you can't plug it straight in, we don't have normal internet as we live in the middle of nowhere which is a ******.
It's fairly quick though, Average DL speed is 1 MBPS -/+ and Upload is 0.5
Sure maybe not quick enough for 16 player games but it plays F.E.A.R on the PC with 4-8 people fine. And we have the router from an old Satellite internet system which really sucked (0.14 Kilobytes per second)
Anyway, it works whichis the main thing and if anyone else is stuck with the same thing add me on MSn and I'll help you JDconway@live.co.uk
