hey guys been reading here and decided this is the place to ask, you all seem civilized lol. so...ill try and keep it simple... Im goin to buy a console next month the thing is what do I buy the ps3 or 360. I know it will be biased here but better than nothing.
Ive always had a playstation console but what I read shows the 360 as better.
What ive heard: the 360 has better graphics and better online play also the control is better.
the controll doesnt bother me but the other two do.
GTA4 is my main concern.
Also if I choose to go with the PS3 what console do I choose?
-20GB
-40GB
-60GB
-80GB
what is the benefit of the 80GB?
Also online gameplay...I hear you cant talk to each other while playing unless its on a headset? do you have to buy any special stuff to be able to play online?
Thanks guys,
kyle

The current PS3s you can buy are the 80gb (in the US) and 40gb (US and PAL). If you're in the US, the only difference with the 80gb and 40gb is backwards compatability with PS1/2 games which the 40gb lacks, and of course the hard drive size.
As a multi-console owner myself I think I can give you a fair, non-biased comparison. It really comes down to the games you want to play. This year for the PS3 you'll be able to play LittleBigPlanet, MGS4 (which is obviously out now), Killzone 2 (I think it's coming in Feb 09 though), Resistance 2, and there's many more coming like the new Final Fantasy games and Gran Turismo 5. Home is also coming out if that matters to you.
The 360s main games are Forza 2, Halo 3, Mass Effect, Bioshock (now coming to PS3 in November), Fable 2, Banjo 3, Alan Wake, Gears of War 1 & 2, Halo Wars (which is an RTS), Too Human and there's more I'm sure I've missed, but you get the general idea of what types of games are on the 360.
As for controller it's a matter of preference, whatever you like better is all that it comes down to. The online play is absolutely exceptional on the 360 but you have to pay about 6$USD a month, or 50$ a year for it, the online on PS3 is free and works well if you're just looking for basic online multiplayer. Like I said HOME is coming out soon, as well as Trophies and the ability to send messages while in a game in the next big firmware update. Xbox Live is awesome and I definitely think it's worth paying for.
The graphics on both systems are comparible with the newer PS3 games starting to look better than what's out on the 360, but there's not really a point to buying a console for better graphics, you need to make sure the games are what you want to play. GTA IV is comparable on both systems, there isn't a real difference except for controller preference.
If you're looking for a Blu-Ray player too, the PS3 has that built in so you can watch high definition movies, the 360 uses standard DVD discs and movies. There are also some other things that the PS3 has built in like Wifi (wireless networking), and the controllers have rechargable batteries, where the 360 uses AA batteries or requires a 15$ purchase of a rechargable battery pack. The PS3s out at the moment come with Sixaxis controller which miss vibration, but you can now purchase Dualshock 3 controllers which have it back. All of the 360 controllers have vibration. Both systems controllers are wireless.
If you're looking to buy a console just for games, like I said before it just depends on what types of games you want to play so you should look at the upcoming releases for both systems, and check out what's already out as well, that's how I'd make my purchase decision if I was buying just for games. Both systems have plenty of games, with lots more coming out.
Some other members of this forum will probably come on saying how much more powerful the PS3 is than the 360, which it is, but I'd still have to stick by the fact that it's about the games you want to play. Also look at the lineup of PS2 games to give you an idea of what's to come in the future for the PS3.
Hope this helps a bit.

oh well..
u can answer your questions yourself...in some way...
on..what do u want to use your console as....
just a gaming machine..or also as a home theatre setup.
xbox live, agreed, has good online play experience. but u have to consider the fact, that xbox live is in the industry for around a year or more, than Playstation network has been.
I use multiplayer extensively on my PSN, (playstation network). and am happy with what i get, for paying no money for subscriptions.
and eventually, PSN def. will get better and improve its online part.....for example, every1 s awaiting the release of Home.
Graphics, well, thats one part where i wont comment, coz taking any of the side, will just be biased. There are equal mixed reviews about PS graphics being better, and 360 graphics being better. So lets put it this way...some games look good in ps, some look good in xbox360. But, if u own a HDTV and a ps3, u wont regret the graphics u get.
Control...it depends on what r u used to. I also own a xbox, but i ve been playing the PS series for years...so am more used to the PS controller. Both the controllers are perfect, its just time that u set and adjust yourself in.
GTA4 is a nice game, and though I will be pointed out by thousands here, but I think GTA4 was quite just a hype....
The story had nothing "extra ordinary". Just some guy coming to usa, trying to find a better life, starts messing around with certain ppl, and finally gets things done.... erm... okaye...what next ?
I do love everything else about GTA4, apart from the mission/story line.
The things u can do around in the game... and the multiplayer...love that part too.
But then, everyone z waiting for saints row 2 to be released for ps3.
Ps3 as a stand alone, is an amazing console....with bluray and 5.1/7.1 dts.... i loved that part. coz i wanted to not only play games, but watch high quality movies on my hdtv. the 360elite which i wanted to buy didnt come with the hd dvd drive, have to make an extra purchase for it....and...hd lost the format war to bluray...so i saw more the reason to buy the ps3.
Knowing the track records of Sony in the playstation field, one can be assured, beyond any doubt, of getting an amazing entertainment experience for the time to come..... :)
If 80gig model is available for u, go for the 80gig, or 60gig... coz they can play ps2 games....and has a bit more on the usb ports, etc.... which doesnt matter much to me though.
While in certain countriez....u only get the 40gig console, so u dont have any choice there.
Hope that helps :)

no clue why there aint any planes...may be liberty city didnt have big enuff runways :P
well.. u can go on a copter ride though :)
i wud love to see more customization....like hijacking a plane/train... where i can drive a train ..take up a job as a train driver...or just be a bad *** and dont stop the train anywhere and the passengers get pissed off.
or maybe i can get a job as a tickit collecter...where i have to inspect suspecious suspects for tickits..and use non weapon force to get them to pay up or take them to the police....
:) gta5 maybe for my wishes to come true :P

As for the 360's online being better it depends on what you think better means. The PS3 is free, the 360 will cost you anywhere from $50 a year to $95 a year if you subscribe monthly.
The PS3 has more online games that feature dedicated servers. It looks like they will continue to. So that subscription fee won't get you less lag just so you know, it just allows you the privilege to play online.
I am not sure what you mean by better control. If you mean more online features then yes Xbox live does have that. Out of game/in game chat, in game dashboard access and a few other things. The PS3 should have a lot of those features soon, but I am not really holding my breath for them.
The PS3 comes with built in wireless, and it will cost you about $100 for that with the 360. The 360 pro and up does come with high def cables and a headset. You have to buy a headset for the PS3. Most PC headsets will work.
Almost everything is proprietary with the 360 hardware. Meaning you have to buy Xbox 360 headsets, hard drives, and wireless adaptors and pay their prices. Not so with the PS3. You can put various hard drives in, hook up any keyboard, any usb headset, Bluetooth headsets ect.
The 360 doesn't have better graphics. Even in GTA4 most reviewers (all that I have seen) give the graphical edge to the PS3 (even though it isn't big enough to really be an issue). As for graphics, I have yet to see a 360 game with better graphics then Uncharted or MGS4. It is very close between the two systems though, and there really isn't a clear winner in that category yet.
The 80 gig has more HDD space and will play some PS2 games through software emulation. The 40 will not play PS2 games.

for a game like gta the graphics arent really what you want to buy a console for. so it depends on what else you want to use it for. i myself have a ps3 and used to own a 360. i sold it mostly because i didnt want to pay for online and there are not enough games i like for it. my personal vote would go for the ps3. upfront cost may also be an issue for you which would lead towards the 360, so like i said it depends on what you want to use it for in the long run.

People are saying because of 9/11, i guess rockstar doesn't want media/news reporters saying there game is some terrorist training ground (not that they havn't said that before). they already have to deal with thousands or people sending in complaints.

Okay from the top:
-360 has better graphics=50/50: The 360 is cheaper to develop for and has a better software development kit. Lower budget multiplatform games tend to look slightly better on the 360 because companies can not always spend the extra time and money needed to maximize the PS3 version. On the other hand, big budget titles and PS3 exclusives like COD4, GTA4, MGS4, Uncharted Drake's Fortune, and others are either the same or better on the PS3. In all cases, the difference is very small. You pretty much have to take a screenshot and zoom in 16x before you see a difference in either version. Overall, the PS3 is the more capable machine. This is not debatable. That being said, only a few games show the difference.
-360 has better online play=Myth: 360 has a better online service, but when it comes to actually playing games, the PS3 version runs with less lag in most cases. That being said, Xbox Live provides services that are not yet available on the Playstation Network. Cross game chat and invites is the biggest advantage of the 360, but it is coming soon for PS3 as well.
-360 has better controller=Fact: The 360 controller was clearly superior to the SIXAXIS, but now that Dualshock 3 is out, this is much more debatable. While this really comes down to personal preference, most prefer the 360 controller for shooters. Games that require use of the D-pad, however, are better with the Playstation controller.
-GTA4 is my main concern: IGN claims that GTA4 looks softer and more realistic on the PS3. The Xbox 360 does have one advantage with exclusive downloadable content coming out toward the end of the year.
-Best PS3 package: The 60gb and 80gb consoles have the most features. The 20gb and 60gb are fully backwards compatible while the 80gb can play most PS2 games. The 40gb can not play PS2 games and only has 2 usb ports instead of 4. All consoles have Wi-fi except for the 20gb unit which also lacks the card reader. The 20 and 60gb consoles are discontinued but can still be found used at some places.
-I hear you cant talk to each other while playing unless its on a headset? do you have to buy any special stuff to be able to play online? This is a bit of a confusing question. Of course you can't talk online without a headset. Unlike the Xbox 360, the PS3 does not come with its own headset, however there are plenty of options to choose from. The PS3 is capable of working with any USB or bluetooth headset. If you don't want to wear a headset, you may prefer the Playstation Eye camera which has a built in boom microphone that can be used for video chat and in-game communication.

As for the Downloadable Content for GTA-IV on Xbox360, we don't even know what it is (another map/island, something little, additional chapters?) and it's not likely to be free. In my opinion the PS3 version of GTA-IV will be enough... for some others it's not.

microsoft did shell out a couple mill (Big surprise when ur system isnt good enough to have an exclusive game throw money at it to get the upper hand) to have exclusive rights to dlc for a couple years. that is not to say that ps3 wont get dlc but it will just be a long time so who know who will play it by then. i have had 2 of my friends trade in the xbox's to get a ps3 just because it has better games and slightly better graphics. Plus you get a Blu ray player bill gates cant throw money at that to get that... yet!!!

What ive heard: the 360 has better graphics and better online play also the control is better.
Its debatable, sure 360 has an overall better experience, but PS3 can handle 32 players+, Ive yet to see a 360 game which can handle more than 18 players at a time, controls are debatable, the triggers are a nice touch but I prefer the feel of the PS3 control - its down to preference
The graphics is rarely better on 360, most of the time both PS3 and 360 games are on par with each other, alsoPS3 has debatably the best looking game Ive ever seen (Uncharted), its just down to developers to make games have great graphics, although 360 and PS3 are pretty much the same, with PS3 having the cell and the 360 having a better GPU
GTA4 is my main concern.
Seriously you want this? Sorry if this is a little harsh but I got really bored of it, San Andreas really kicked its butt for me

First off, the Xbox 360 is not capable of generating better graphics than the PS3. So, the PS3 has better graphics if that is what you are looking for.
Also if I choose to go with the PS3 what console do I choose?
-20GB
-40GB
-60GB
-80GB
I would go with the 80GB.
what is the benefit of the 80GB?
It has backwards compatibility unlike the 40GB.
Also online gameplay...I hear you cant talk to each other while playing unless its on a headset? do you have to buy any special stuff to be able to play online?
No, the PSN (Playstation Network) is free of charge unless you buy things. You can not talk to each other unless you have, an PSeye, Eyetoy, or a bluetooth or wired headset.

Off topic slightly but nonetheless good enough I think
GTA IV and no planes I think has something to do with the fact it's only based in one city & the map is smaller than that of San Andreas
& if Rockstar cared about the media they'd've sold off all their stocks years ago XD
Just look at the recent paedophilia outrage that has a gamer swearing down he will never play the GTA brand again
Onto the ps3 vs xbox thing (I'll try not to be too biased)
Graphics are practically the same
A lot of places say that the ps3 overall is better value for money for what you spend on a basic set up
Lower failure rates on the ps3
Online play as far as I'm aware has no need 2 buy anything (I think some models don't come with built in wireless I think that's the european 20Gb model)
60Gb model comes with hardware emulation for ps2 & ps1 games and can play about 98% of them
40 gb can play most ps1 titles, 80gb can play more ps2 titles than the 40gb but still the 60 gb is the best to go with for the backwards compatability I hear
Other than hard drive size (Which is user replacable) I don't think there's any other differences between consoles
If I'm wrong then go ahead and tell me so I'm just going by stuff that I've read on here
*Edit* The PS3 really will just handle more players I'm yet to hear of anything microsoft can produce that can match up to 60 players online on resistance 2

and don't 4get about game titles that are coming in the future (end of year/start of 09)
FFXIII, FF Versus, God Of War 3 etc.
When I bought my 40GB PS3, Backwards Compatibility for me wasn't a BIG issue mainly because I never owned a ps2 and thus own no ps2 titles (was a PC gamer). The Upcoming and already released game titles is what attracted me to a ps3 over the 360, plus after u add in the Blu-Ray support, WiFi, free online play it seemed like the better deal for me.
Online gaming I must say is important but as of now i'm having a blast playing offline. With further developments with the PSN the difference between XBL and PSN will soon be none. Without XBL the 360 would be nothing to people IMO.
