Hi all,

I've just bought an external harddrive for my PS3. Everything is fine, with FAT32 and all subdirectories.

The only thing, I've not found anyway to have the track display in order. If I rip a CD directly on the PS3, they are in order with the track number in the "info" of the file.

But when played off from the external hardrive, I have no idea. My mp3 are ID3 correct, with the track number. The file name include the track number at the beginning too.

Please help :)

Anyone?

Does anyone have mp3 on an external harddrive and have the correct track order appearing?

You might have to edit the mp3 metadata, which is usually done by right clicking the file and going to properties when does through a computer.

If you want to have a program do much of the changes this is a program call "MP3 Tag and Rename" that is really good. It has a feature will it will get the cd information and track numbers from Amazon.

Im not sure if it address your problem directly, but it may help.

On my flash drive all my tracks I backed up from my ps3 are in a folder called MUSIC and they are all alphabetized. But recently I transfered a Lil Wayne cd from my friends computer to my flash and it shows up as The Carter 3. Once I look in the folder all the songs go by track number. I think the songs you back up from your ps3 are the only one's that don't sort numerically. Hopefully this will help!

I think it's because the PS3 orders the files by the date they were copid onto the HDD, I'm sure the PSP is the same too.

Pretty sure there is an option on PS3 to change the default sort order. I'm not near my console, so I can't confirm - but I'm positive I've done it. Press triangle to bring up the options in the folder view and you should be on the right track.

If i remember you can change the sorting options by pressing the square button on the folder.
Perhaps that will help?

I've tried basically everything....

I now think that there's an issues with external harddrive on PS3. I can press square only on files on the PS3 harddrive, not on a USB device. Plus, when I press Triangle on a MP3 stored on the PS3, it show a lot of information, including the track number.

But on the MP3 on the USB harddrive, this line is gone! Plus, no Square ordering possible. Finally, I've copied the MP3 from my USB HD drive onto the PS3 HD, and now it's ok...

That's sad though. The only way i've figured out is to make the track name (in the MP3 tag, not the file name) something like 01 - Track name, as it will list them alphabetically.

I'm curious to know if this a known problem to others. Playing MP3 in the correct order directly from a USB HD.

Update : Even weirder... If you put the MP3 in a MUSIC folder to have the PS3 read it directly from the menu, it list the MP3 in alphabetically like I said. But if you press triangle, show all... browse to music instead, track number are OK now!! Wow... Sony should try to fix that...
