View Full Version : New Rule suggestion

I think we should limit threads that break the rules (i.e. already been posted, pointless, flame, etc.) to 1 response from a member. It would definately allow the forums to 'clean' themselves up because threads would eventually just drop off the main page and be forgotten.

It's very hard to navigate through multiple topics with similar subjects to find to the one with the actual discussion inside of it. It's also rediculous how sometimes the repeated thread will have more posts then the orginal when all those posts are simply stated that it has been posted before.

Members should also assume that if it has been already posted and someone responded to it stating that, that the replying user has also notified a moderator(s) for deletion. Thus, you should not report it to a moderator. I'm not sure what the moderator's inboxes look like, but I'm sure they aren't empty :) . Hopefully this will lessen the amount of repeated PMs you guys recieve.

Just a suggestion.

That would be nice. The problem is when someone points out it has been posted, some people keep posting in them. Only one person needs to inform the topic maker which can just as well be done it the same thread and everyone should let it die from there on until the mods arrive and can do as they see fit.

That's why I'm proposing a new rule, making illegal to post again under the topic.

Sorry if I worded it badly, but that's what I'm trying to get at.

I understand what WhatRuOn means and I agree with him. It's VERY annoying when people just make useless posts when those posts aren't any better than topicmakers. Just look at this one:

Yeah, the PS3 discussion section has been flooded with repeated topics and useless spam. Nothing we can do about it really. I know what you're getting at WhatRuOn. When a member of the forum points out that a topic already exists all members who post from there on should be fined with a skill point deduction.

That is great idea Jer. It will certainly teach them to learn not to do it again.

The skill point dedcution happens, though it hasn't happened anytime lately.

Is it possible to make an official announcement that moderators will be enforcing this rule? Tommorow is going to be hell on these forums if everyone doesn't do their part.

I disagree. In theory it's nice, but it's unrealistic. What about the people that have 2nd opinions? What about being unable to get a certain aspect of a concept and must ask a second question?

Don't take my opinion as that froma Moderator but rather as a member.

I know personally I would feel tied down. If this rule was in place when I use to post intelligently ;) I wouldn't understand as much as I do now.

My suggestion is skill point deduction for members who post "This has already been posted" after other members already mentioned that. I'm trying to prevent threads from reaching 2 pages of just people saying, "This is already posted"

Yes, good idea. I think maybe everyone but the first member who says it, and maybe people from the SMC? To say the thread has been reported? I think if they post in it but say their point of view aswell as it has already been posted then there should be no deduction as they are also contributing to a discussion, then when the topic is locked the mods can merge the posts into the official topic?

How about this for a rule, you have to have a least 50 posts to post a new topic, what do you think.

^no

And, the rule is well thought out but hows this one. Don't post in obvious flame-bait, pointless, advertising, or spamming threads and just report it?

How about limiting on how many times somebody could quote another person in one topic. Since this topic just got way out there with the quotes from .RequieM. and die4ps3.

Oh my....That is the biggest chain of quotes I have ever seen in this forum. That is out of control, but that is a very rare case of insane quoting. No, don't make a rule out of quoting, that's silly. It doesn't bother me at all when users do that. That topic was funny though.
