Hi guys,
My PS3 bluray drive died in the way that seems to be very common. The machine was out of warrantee so I surfed the net and found it was possibly a dirty lens or motor failure.
I stripped, cleaned and rebuilt the drive. This didnt fix the problem, and now the load mechanism seems to be weaker. It sometimes takes 2-3 attempts to spit the disc out. Before stripping it, the icon in the top right said the machine was trying to read the disc, this is no longer the case.
I fail to understand the reason why the loading mechanism isnt working correctly, I have put it together the way it came apart.
I have ordered the KEM-400AAA assembly and was shocked to find they dont come with instructions. Does anyone here know how to correctly assemble this drive, and can maybe post a link with pictures?
I have narrowed my options to the following 4 possibilities
1. Pay Sony 190eur to swap my machine for a reconditioned ps3
2. Install the new assembly in the bluray drive I have now
3. Buy a faulty drive from eBay and install the new assembly, I understand the ps3 wont recognise a new drive. Will keeping the old controller board from my broken drive and installing it on the new one solve this?
Heres the part that really got me mad. I phoned Sony and asked if I could buy a new drive, they told me they would have fixed it for FREE if I hadnt stripped the machine, even though its out of warantee!!!
