I'm very tempted to upgrade my PS3 HDD. Currently I have a 60gb. What I was wondering was, that if I was to swap to a 250gb could I get a case and turn my 60gb one into an external HDD and then use this 'new' external dive to restore my 250gb drive with all the game saves, game data and downloads?
The basic question is, do I have to spend some money on a dedicated external HDD to back up my PS3 or can I convert my old 'internal' 60gb into an external and use the data from that?

Yes to first.
No to second, just an external enclosure. Some are USB powered, some need an external power source.
OEM mesh case with no cables

However, since you're UK.

This would have been a lovely matching enclosure. It's just a shame its for IDE.

This is the enclosure i have, is there any reason why this would be preventing my ps3 from reading the external hdd?
