anybody ever use darkBASIC to make FPS? i looked at a site about it and it seems to be pretty cool, although i would rather have a much better SDK like the real developers have, but i thought this would be a great place to start. any comments are welcome.

Hey there:
I think this one is in the wrong section...
Back to topic, i used once DarkBasic trial. Maybe i was distracted, but i did not get ANYTHING (maybe cuz i did not try either)
It looked complex to me :(

hey, that's cool. i'll keep it here then. i thought it would fit since it's a game design software package. i thought i would try my hand at something that was fairly easy to program games with and see if it's something i want to do.

Not sure about DarkBASIC, but from experience, I know that Blitz Basic 3D is great for creating simple (or powerful) 3D games. I've seen some really amazing stuff done with it in the past.

I was playing around with DarkBASIC for awhile.
Its pretty enjoyable, its simple and easy to use, as long as you have some BASIC programming knowledge (no pun intended there :P hehe)
I made some pretty cool things, even made a fountain screensaver that lets you pass parameters through to it when you start it through a command line or the parameters section if you schedule it. (speed, gravity and some other things i cant remember, think there was particle count as well)
In fact i may install it again since it was quite fun playing around with it, you should load up some of the demo games in the main folder and have a play around with them to get the hang of it.
Theres an FPS game in there actually, can try playing around with that for a bit.
As for the basic and pro version, i recommend getting pro if you intend using it to make a serious project, the basic version hasnt got the best compiler or even some of the better features in the Pro version.
Also, its better to install the alernative code writer, i had it on a disc, im not sure if its on their website.
Instead of having to load that DirectX coded interface, you can use the Windows-coded interface (which is similar to most big programming language interfaces, has highlighting... yeh)
Talking about the website, you can download games people have made (or still are making)
Theres quite a few cool things on there
I think this would be better in PC Gaming, although being a design program, it mostly ends up as PC games in the end, or something similar.
