In a need to diversify my musical library, I want some rap.
Now, this is not rap such as "Yo, my n****, what's the deal, slang some dro, bang my hoe, shoot a gat, black like a bat", or something like that. I am talking Flobots or Deltron 3030 rap....Examples of lyrics from both:

Deltron 3030- Positive Contact
Here at Brymar College
We can get you prepared for the 31st century
With advanced programming and (quad?) rendering
And Java plus plus plus scripting language
We offer advanced job placement assitance

So upgrade your grey matter, cause one day it may matter
Upgrade your grey matter, cause one day it may matter
Upgrade your grey matter, cause one day it may matter
Upgrade your grey matter, cause one day it may matter

[Del]
Comin from the outer regions of the universe
Deltron Zero and Automator
Check it

Upgrade your grey matter, cause one day it may matter

Hey time for you to upgrade, **** say
Time to load
All my rhymes time to sold
And find your own
Salivate over what I collaborate
with high tech wizardry
and breathe new life into the industry
Save to the hard drive for the archives
Three thousand thirty with a global apartheid
Sensitivity (?afe the?) energy
Brain chemically contorted
With the coordinates to your ordinates

Upgrade your grey matter, cause one day it may matter

Yo, your recovery's slow
My dual input
Plus my modem
The tools in foot
Long songs instrumental digital projector professor
I'll clue you on the art in how is texture map
Get your act together
My style is mega
Educate the hesiate lonely beggars
Only shred of evidence is the virtual file
Stored within the cerebellum hit you Berkowitz style

Upgrade your grey matter, cause one day it may matter

My defense capabilities with ape agilitiy
Take possibilites to the point of senseless shattering
Commence the babbling I'm meditatin' on a homosapien
With no education I'm 3D acceleration
My programmin' language is the strangest
To come to grips with mechanized mischief
Kicks it off with circular projectiles X-Files
Herald as the most important dwarf the corporates

Upgrade your grey matter, cause one day it may matter

Hey, I reduce the game
When I boost my brain
What you used to sayin
I loosen the frame
With shock announcements
T-Minus and countin'
Effects control and bouncin'
Star studded and flooded like fountains
A new machine
Real artists are few between
You better lube your screen
My renders are spendor
Three sixty reflecting quickly
Increase your (?dispease?)
So you can,

Upgrade your grey matter, cause one day it may matter

My production model is the stuff to boggle minds
You got a logon time of exactly thirty-six nanoseconds
Ambidextrious with ambience
Watch the can is twist while I lockout my hardware
Word warfare logistically locate and process
With psychotropics to optimize my profits
Envelop you with development kits that help me
To embelish the elements dynamic and to intellegece

Upgrade your grey matter, cause one day it may matter

Lookie here, as soon as I release the chip
You cease the rips and (?now?)
Since you want to top this reach to it
Digital retouch
Reconstruct a whole conglomerate
With our armaments we use with tolerance
Such as a G-Bomb
Cyborg with 3 arms
Translate the ancient language with a brain dish
Micro machines polystream conducting electrons
Deltron strippin' with molecular bonds

Upgrade your grey matter, cause one day it may matter
Upgrade your grey matter, cause one day it may matter
Uuhaaaa...uh

Flobots- Mayday!!! Lryics
Born in the flood
bloody fingerpaint sets
blackmarketed fresh
water canons forget me not
epitaph airbrush with death
white tee's
wife beaters
button up
reattach flesh

in between the lines
outside of the law
underneath the veil
we dig our foundations
we navigate the globe
trying to find a pattern to break the mold
with a family to feed
theres nowhere we wont go

but what if were caught
they say I'm a snitch
shot at the check point
found with his throat slit

theres spray paint on the teleprompter
anchorman screams that hes seen a monster
[mayday]
theres bloodstains on his shirt
[mayday]
they say that hes gone berserk

sometimes
when I wanna shut out this world
wanna rip up this page
wanna pour out this heart
wanna get up on this stage
and my lips become percussion
and my fists become the rage
and I pound on this table
til it gives me something to say
then I think about things that Ive seen
right in front of me
that I dont wanna believe
gimme one of these mikes
let me let em know
the way that it is is not how its gonna be
not if we dont let em get ahead of us
the present tensions no threat
its just a fence across the path
that were already ready to walk
rock solid footsteps
letem put up obstacles
and prove that it isnt possible
**** that
we dont give in anyway
true liberty and freedoms at stake
peace will never become pass
live my life until my last day

it was half-past eight in the bat cave
when the cracks in the plaster collapsed
and gave way to gaps in the pavement
mayday mayday
put it on blast
for the passengers and messengers
cause this is a disaster
where the **** are the rescue workers
not far
off pissing on a cop car
in the hall with a poptart
sipping liquor in the rockbar
everyone climb to the frontline
lunchtimes cancelled
all hands on deck to pull survivors from the landfill
onlookers passers-by brush of your shoulders
shake off that rubble
break free from your standstill

signs of a better world
causes we understand
failures we expected to occur
and bring redemption for our sins
safety from the crowds
in the shadows on the run
we write our own cider house
rules to keep alive
rituals that prove their worth
search for systems we can trust
rhythms we can lock into

this is madness salvage teams
can't bandage
hope when its damaged
or broken compassion
not enough rope in the van when
world is collapsing
our mode of action
broadcast through the glass
all we can manage
donate with the plastic
scraps from the salad
hoping to balance
emotions invalidated
and staged on 4:3 aspects
just ballast for sadness
lives shattered are standard
fare for cameras and channels
stare no abracabras

no faster answers
or mantras for disasters
remastered and plastered
we got it all backwards
do you know the faction your backing
its another man down
another mother gone
child drowned
another silenced song
solitude
another kind of strong
I miss you
another strung along
missing in action
another page is blackend burned
turned to ashes to ashes
dust off the flags and the caskets

we will never find another you
despite the life of love we knew
these lightning times are trouble who
cant count the strikes that punished through
the bonds we thought would never break
and never will and never change and never fade
but there is the rage
of losing you to their mistakes

in between the lines
signs of a the next movement
refuge from the crowd
outside of the law
causes we understand
hands that trace
instructions for descendants in the
shadows on the run
underneath the veil
failures we expected to
occur and bring redemption for our sins
in between the lines

Lyrics like those. Educated rappers who use big words, aren't saying N***a the whole time, aren't saying F*** the whole time. Rap about political things, are funny, non-conformist stuff, etc. I like Eminem as well if that tells you anything.
I have listened to Lupe, and like songs such as Daydream, but not sure if I would listen to his whole albums.

So get to recommending!

What your after is called back-backer rap, just google that term, and Lupe is the pinnacle of all things positive in rap, and just because some rap may say such terms a lot doesnt mean its all auwful, the Wu tang clan are the greatest group ever and their lyrics are slighty gritty. Try listening to the Roots for amazing positive rap, listen to Atmosphere for more over rated backbacker stuff. Ill reply with a list for you when i have more time. Just avoid southern ringtone rap

Alright, I will try Roots. I don't know if I would like Wu-Tang if they are really gritty. It isn't like I have a problem listening to the music...it is just I would prefer not to...I try to listen to mostly positive music (most of my library is Christian music...hardcore). I will be waiting for that list.
I have listened to Shame on a N***a by Wu-Tang, and sorta liked it (mostly listened to the SOAD cover of it..), so we will see.

I could recommend you the greats such as Mos Def and Talib Kweli. A lot of Common's old stuff might be good for you too. Hmm... The Roots is good stuff. From a political standpoint, Immortal Technique is awesome to listen to, but you might get lost if you don't speak Spanish (I somewhat assume that you do by your username, although I could be wrong).

Actually, you couldn't go wrong with picking up a Lupe album either. There's also this guy that I really dig called Asheru. He does the "Boondocks" theme if that tells you anything.

I think I'm gonna go....get....all Lupe's stuff and The Roots stuff. I'll check out those other guys, thanks.

No I don't speak Spanish lol. My name is from a P.O.D song.

Lupe Fiasco
Common
Nas
Rhymefest
Immortal Technique (Real hard stuff, but great content and stories)
Wu-Tang Clan
The Fugees

If you want some mixtapes, go to Datpiff ( http://www.datpiff.com/ ) You can find some awesome stuff on there for free. All of Lupe's mixtapes are awesome and you can hear his influences from Nas in some of his early stuff.

Lupe's new album, The Cool, is definitely a lot darker than his first album, Food & Liquor. Both are equally amazing in my book though. He has a story going throughout both his albums. He created three characters, The Cool, The Game, and The Streets. They all influence each other in different ways. "The Die" (on his "The Cool" album) is kind of like the prequel to "The Cool" (from his "Food & Liquor" album.)

If you want more of a comedy-style rap band, try Group X: The Arabian Rap Sensation. You can find their songs all over the internet, but their album is quite hard to come by.

if u want a good rap band a highly recommend "A Tribe Called Quest" their from the 90s they are so unique and old school but are in whole different level, some songs i suggest are "electric relaxation" and 'bonita applebum'.
another great group or duo in this case are "The Cool Kids" kinda like old school but with sick *** vibe and a different beat
ps i dont know how to put links yet so just look for them on youtube

Lets not forget De La Soul, also KRS 1 was always good. I don't how you may feel about Public Enemy though they do get a bit on the white man in some songs...

N-word or not, Tupac has some amazingly powerful songs. Keep Ya Head Up, Changes, Dear Mama, etc. Lupe has been mentioned. Try Common.

Papoose has a song with some strong lyrics titled "Ghetto Soldier," but you may not like it. And Kanye West Homecoming is a great song, but so too has someone else beat me to the punch.

Run DMC. >_>
