Yeah, my controller died on me today so I plugged it in USB. The light was faint. then it turned off on the top of the controller. I checked my friends controller and it seemed to charge with my usb on my PS3. I don't have enough for a new controller and MGS4, is there any way to fix this? ( I don't want to have to wait an extra day for my pay on the 13th to play the game )

Give Sony a Call cos when the PS3 was launched they mentioned they would replace the battery in the controller if failed, so u might be ableto get a new one from Sony if it a battery issue ? in time for the 13th ??

You can swap the batteries out to make sure that it isn't the USB port going bad, or try and find a replacement battery. I thought I had seen a post a while back saying that Sony will replace the battery for free. I could be completely mistaken about that part though.

I remember that someone posted that as a counter to the battery being built into the controller vs. the 360 needing to have an external rechargeable battery purchased. I don't ever recall seeing anything officially endorsed by Sony stating the batteries will be replaced for free. It's a simple process once you get the controller completely apart, pull the plug on the battery, install the new battery, and reassemble the controller. It would probably take me about 10 minutes from start to finish at this point.

Your book is weird. Could you please find two people who think something very convenient to me, then tell me where the strange country you live in is?

Yep not a big job, as you said , from what i remember there was no mention of cost or the work Free.. My old head seems to remember being something officialish (i know good word that), but no mention of Free or Cost.

Where would you get the correct battery though? Opening it would probably void your warranty, so call Sony first.

I read somewhere a while back that the controllers were designed to be disposable; when the battery dies, you buy a new controller. I always hoped that wasn't true...

I vote you contact Sony and ask for a replacement.

My never died... I did not think it could.

Changing the battery is very simple. All you have to do is unscrew the back of the controller and the first thing you will see is the battery. There are no seals on the inside of the controller so you don't have to worry about voiding the warranty. Assuming that controllers come with a warranty.

were can we buy the li-ion 300mA batteries from could be buy non-sony branded ones, will they work? because Im not paying 40-50 dollars on a new controller while the older one is out of battery!

Other than what people are saying, if you charge it like a tard, it'll die eventually.

When they do die they go to silicon hevean. Rep to the first person to name the show that its from :P

What? There needs to be one silly comment in a thread somewhere!

But yeah, back on topic. How many charges do you think you could get out the controllers? Is it best to let the battery run flat before charging them?

silicon heaven its from Red Dwarf

also i think dont charge your controller every second because like every battery its eventrully not going to be able to hold a charge :)

Short answer: No they cannot die. What you are doing is assigning human (or in this case living) characteristics to a non-living thing. This is called personification my friend.

Can it malfunction and cease to work? Yes.

Do not let your Lithium Ion batteries run low, THEN recharge. Once you do, it'll never be the same--literally. Permanent damage FTW!

Plus, if the lithium ion battery actually runs completely out of juice, you won't even be able to recharge it--a.k.a. it's "bricked", to borrow a PSP firmware term.

And no, there's no Pandora for Lithium Ion batteries to bring it out of its brickage. Once it's gone, it's gone for good.

That's odd I've let my old Sixaxis controller die numerous times and let it sit for a week before recharging. It hasn't been able to not regain a full charge so far.

I'm talking like 8 straight hours of gaming without rest.

EDIT: Sorry, noticed you fixed it already.

I don't think everyone feels that same as you. Thats not right. You might as well have just stuffed that controller in you pocket and not paid for it. Because you did steal it.

Thanks for making product costs go up, because the consumer DOES pay for crap like this.

The one is exaggerating, but not lying... Lithium Ion batteries are the opposite of NiCad batteries... Where on NiCad it's not good to charge them before they completely discharge, on LIon batteries, it's not good to let them completely discharge... Also, it can be bad to overcharge LIon batteries, but most chargers (almost certainly including the one built into the sixaxis / dualshock 3) have shut off switches to prevent overcharging so that normally isn't an issue anymore... When LIon batteries were first made, it was a MASSIVE issue... Batteries dying left and right because of people overcharging them. I have several friends who's laptop batteries went bad because of overcharging them.

I still don't know what the issues with NimH batteries are... I have some of those for other things and they've lasted me a LONG time.

I know that he's not lying, I'm just offering a little counterpoint. I've done the research on some batteries that can literally die if they lose all power, but for some odd reason I've never come across any of those batteries. Currently I have had the best luck with Lithium Polymers and I always go after those types of rechargable, even if they don't last as long.

I have let my Sixaxis die completely (shuts itself down) twice. And then i fully recharge it and then charge it when it is still half full. I usually do this once every 6 or so months because i read somewhere that it was good for it. Not 100% how true this is but i haven't had any problems thus far.

I do the same with my Mobile Phone and laptop as well

Might have to pull this one with my Sixaxis of which the Analogue stick is starting to stick. Boy is that annoying!
