The fan in my PS3 is getting REALLY REALLY loud while I'm watching DVD's. It gets to full speed before it even gets to the menu screen. I only have a couple weeks left on my warranty and I don't want to have it break right after the warranty expires. Should I try to get it replaced?

My fans also gets really loud after I play for a few hours. But they get to normal speed after 15 min. I think it's because of the weather were I live. I live in Miami so it's really hot right now. As for your fans starting to get loud before the menu I don't think thats normal. Since your still covered by the warranty I think it's a good idea to get another.

Do you clean it out regularly?! If not, try taking a vacuum to it.. might be accumulating some dust.

Try cleaning the DVD disc itself, as well as the PS3. Usually its dust in the fans and around the vents (coupled with prolonged use - 2+ hours usually) that contributes to the loud sound.

What model PS3 do you have? If it's the 40GB, then try the self-cleaning (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6X1-vFYpEU&feature=related) method, and see if the fan is any quieter than before. I wouldn't recommend it for any other model, though, as you run the risk of damaging it. Why it's safe for 40GB and not any others, I do not know, but I'd stick to the safe side and not do it.

Yea, i live in Los Angeles, and its almost always hot here. But on really hot days, the fans get pretty loud.

on a side note, my fans started to get louder after that whole alleged "fan test" thing. i tried it ONCE (damn curiosity) and ever since then, louder fans.
coincidence? maybe. but i would still not advise anyone to try that out.
and yea, i have the 40GB model

Maybe a good ol' fashioned clean, and a little rest will help your ps3 out.

Backup your games and swap it out. Why not?
Just say its not working right.
I would advise against taking a vacume to it personally. It can result in dust moving to places it normally wouldn't go. If you are going to do it, I would only do it from the back where the fans are, so your pulling the air in the same direction it usually flows...
