Ok so i havent turned my ps3 on in two weeks as ive been on holidays so when i got up this morning to play GTA i got a error on the opening screen of my ps3
" The ps3's hard drive is corrupted and will need to be restored"
Ive run the restoration about 20 times now and still it comes up the same. Anyone have any other ideas of what i can do or is it dead??

If you've done the restoration option and it doesn't solve the problem, I'm afraid there's little left you can do.
You could buy a larger (or new) HDD and see if it works for you. Might be an option if you wanted to increase the HDD capacity anyway.
Or you could call Sony.
Even if a larger/new HDD works fine, call Sony and have them replace the HDD/PS3 if your machine is under warranty.

You get a year from Sony when you buy it but depending on where you bought it you may have an additional warranty from them. For example I got a year from Sony and an extra 2 from Wal-Mart when I bought mine, maybe try calling the store you purchased it from as well.
Even if it's put of warranty, worst-case scenario is you send it to Sony and pay them $149 for the 'Total Refurbishment' and have it back in 7 days, but I've heard many claims of people having issues with launch consoles and getting them fixed/replaced for free and they were quite good to me when my launch 20 gig died.
Or you could try buying a new HDD and swapping, your call really.

i'd try removing the HDD, cleaning it around a little and plugging it back in before i go buy a new one

That sucks that you'll lose everything but at least you could game again. I guess the moral of the story is back things up, at least occasionally, to a USB stick/external HD/etc.
It does suck losing your saves though, when mine went under I lost about 80 hours of Oblivion and haven't played it since (which is a shame because its a great game) as it just doesn't feel worth it.

I had this problem today rang sony and even though out of warranty they are replacing for free because it is apparantly a problem with gta4. Make sure you tell them it is caused by grand theft auto and they should replace.

I will defo try this then did they say what the problem is woth GTA4, Seems a bit strange doh as my ps3 was not on for 2 weeks and then this came up. Might have to be a bit firm with them to get the new one!
I will defo be backing everthing up in future now at least once every two weeks losing all my saves, music and pics:cry:
