Just bought a 60g used PS3. Connecting to a Samsung DLP with DVI and component only. No HDMI.

Tried connecting using a HDMI to DVI cable and the TV would not pick up the signal.

Next tried using AV to component to connect to input for 720p/1080i and got the message that it was not supported.

Finally, connected the AV to component to input ofr 480i/480p and got a picture.

Is there anything in the setup I am missing to make either of the first 2 connections work?

Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

USED PS3 means it may have some settings assigned to the previous owner that are not compatible with your tv.

Try turning off your PS3 and turn it one by pressing the ON button for like 10 seconds. This will reset the settings turning them to default. After that go to view settings.

Hope it helps.

Is the DVI port on your DLP set HDCP complaint? When you switch back and forth between connections be sure to touch the power button for ~5 seconds to set the video back to default, otherwise it stays on the last video output that was used.

BTW, I assume you've got an HLM or HLN series Samsung DLP (given you have DVI and don't have HDMI) those are both verified to work with the PS3 w/ HDMI to DVI adapters.

Neameto hit the nail on the head though, it's most likely in incompatibility in the settings.

You don't want to do this with DLPs (or other micro displays for that matter) as you'll shorten the lamp life on the set (i.e. power cycling is bad for micro displays using UHP lamps.)

That said all Samsung DLPs DVI and HDMI ports have been HDCP complaint since the first generation with DVI.

Guess I should of clarified better! I was talking about the reset for the PS3, not the TV! Hold the touch sensitive power button on the PS3 for ~5 seconds to reset the video back to default!

Ooops I misunderstood, now that I re-read the 'touch' for 5 sec should have clued me in , that does set it to 480i though and yes I agree with doing this to start w/ the basics.

I did the powering off and holding the on button down last night and that is how I at least got it to work the way I have it now.

Is there another setting menu I need to go to?

Go to display settings and see what options you have there.
