I just bought a new 120gb hardrive for my PS3 and was wondering whether i could back up all that is already on my PS3 with my 512mb stick?

The process would be to back up data from the ps3 to the stick until the stick is full then copy to my PC and so on until everything on my ps3 is on my PC.

Then pop in my new hardrive and copy the back up data on my PC to my PS3 and so on.

Would this work?

Thanks

It's impossible to backup your old HDD with that small of drive.

What you could do is just copy the saved game files/videos over to it separately. Doing the backup utility it would take quite a few GB's and it has to do it all at once so you couldn't remove the stick.

even if you could do 512mb incremental backups, if you had a full 60gb drive imagine how long that would take!!

Best to try and borrow a drive for the backup till u swap HDD's and then get yourself an enclosure for the drive u took out the ps3

Pretty much, no. You need large enough storage to hold everything.

Labiiil, You could backup all of your gamesaves on that, but that would be about it.

Any downloads would need to be redownloaded, and your games would need to be re-installed. This may actually still be a more painless way to get things over depending on the quantity of games you've downloaded and the number of games you've installed.

I recently swapped out my hard drive. To keep all the content on the new drive the backup was about 24gigs and took about 45 min to complete. Do you have a friend with an external hdd? That's your best bet. Or, although not the best method you could buy one at walmart do the back up and transfer and then return it the same day.

um no, It was a suggestion. Did I say I did that? NO! If he didn't have a friend with a HDD like in my suggestion he could lightly screw over a big cooperation like Wal-mart.
