With MGS4 around the corner, I NEED Dualshock 3. However, its not out in Europe. So the question is.. Are there ANY differences between the Japanese and US versions of the Dualshock 3 controller? Are the battery times EXACTLY the same?

Yes.

They are nearly identical.

Their is no difference between the controllers from different regions.
Their all the same peices of equipment.

The labels on the back will be in different languages but apart from that I wouldn't imagine there would be any differences.

Then im going to assume Europe controllers will be exactly the same as the US and JPN ones then? Why the hell are Sony delaying then? Seems absolutely pointless if you are going to delay for a continent and yet don't improve the battery life.

i actually got my hands on a ds3 bout two days ago, and it feels great, a bit heavier and the force feedback is great especially in Warhawk

The model number is different:

US - CECHZC2U
JP - CECHZC2J

The info on the labels differs as well. Other than those things that shouldn't matter at all, they feel and play identical.

I wish there was force feedback in the games I actually play...

They are nearly identical except the Japanese packaging is much more customer friendly. Opening US electronics and toys are such a pain in the arse. I was pleasently surprised how nice and easy it was to get access when I got my white Japanese DS3.

i have a white imported and a black bought locally.

It may JUST be me, but the NA version appears to vibrate a lil stronger...

I think it's just me being crazy tho...

It is. It purely depends on the game. Some rumble hard, some rumble softly. Some it depends what you're doing in the game. It's like in GT5:P or F1, if I drive and brake really smooth I hardly get any rumble. Drive like a nutter and it starts to rumble like blazes.

There's no significant difference between the US and JP Dual Shock 3 controllers. They're both made in China.

There's force feedback in the DS3 with Warhawk? Funny, I haven't noticed it. I've noticed the rumble but nothing I would consider force feedback....must be subtle.

So the battery between them is the same? If thats the case, then thats alright. How many hours does the battery last?

Thats probably very game dependent if you're waiting to know with rumble on. I leave mine on over night all the time and it's usually still on by the time i come back to it. Just charge it when you're not playing and there won't be a problem.

I had no idea what the US package was like, but when I first got it I couldn't work out how someone on here scored his DS3 across the Sony logo opening the package with scissors. When the cardboard sleeve slides open after you cut the tape? slide the cardboard out and there you have it. No effort, no force.

Well thats a tough one, I switch the controllers off after I've finished playing while I keep the PS3 on just in case I want to go back. Once I'm done with the PS3 I place it on the Pelican. Even with hours of gaming each night, I'd say mine could go 1, close to two weeks. Usually 1 and a half before it needs charging.

I was forever charging the Sixaxis every 1.5 - 2 days this way.

No need, it's already been done. Sony PS3 Dualshock 3 Wireless Black Controller scan.co.uk £33.48 Inc VAT (http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=790359) It's on pre-order.

amazon.co.uk £37.99 + £1.99 shipping (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/B0012ENSXE/ref=dp_olp_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1212187147&sr=8-2) This was where I got mine over a month ago for £33. No import tax.

The price is fluctuating a lot, it was as low as £29 once there.

Zero difference apart from price (us UK'ers are used to being ripped off by now) and the writing on the label.

Great pad IMO. Not much heavier than the original, in fact I thought the original was a little too light, and the feedback is great.

They should be exactly the same. I know my foreign DS3 looks just like my Sixaxis does. Even has most of the same writing.

True, but you had to use scissors. Or a razor blade. The Japanese packaging you can access the controller with just your hands. It's just some flimsy plastic with some staples. US uses molded plastic that you could make a shank out of and go on a COD4 stabbing spree if you wanted. :D

I heard if you 'continuously' charge your controllers, they lose their wireless capabilities. Is that true?

Where would the best place to buy this? I'm sure -viper- would also be interested in the answer. The cheapest i can find is from Renchi.com which is £50 with postage, but there must be a £30 sell somewhere, that sells to the uk

There is no difference at all. They are probably both even manufactured in the same spot and one is palmed off as US and the other, Japanese.

Oh well, i need to get my *** into gear and make the purchase i think...

I heard if you 'continuously' charge your controllers, they lose their wireless capabilities. Is that true?

I doubt it. This goes for usually any type of rechargeable battery, always constantly charging is just as bad as letting it drain completely. It may be a different matter for a lithium-ion battery thats used in these controllers and mice such as the Logitech MX 1000/MX Revolution.

A unique drawback of the Li-ion battery is that its life span is dependent upon aging from time of manufacturing (shelf life) regardless of whether it was charged, and not just on the number of charge/discharge cycles. So an older battery will not last as long as a new battery due solely to its age, unlike other batteries. This drawback is not widely published.

Haha! thats a good one.
