alright i think mine is starting to die....last night i was playing cod4 online and in the middle of the game my screen froze for like 3 sec and then a yellow light flashes then it flashes red the rest of the time until i turn it off.....this happened again and again for like 2 straight hours.....i went to the sony support website and it appeared to be an overheating problem so i didnt play the rest of the night....so this morning after not playing my ps3 for 11 hours (plenty of time for it to cool down) i pop in mlb 08 and begin playing and sure enough 5 min into a game it freezes and does the same thing it was doing last night
there is no way it is overheating cuz i didnt touch it for so long so what in the hell is wrong with what was a perfect machine
btw 60 gig i bought it in Dec of 06
and now on top of that the damn thing wont even turn on.....i press the ps button on my controllers but the system doesnt respond, so i press the button myself and it turns on like normal for maybe 2 seconds and before my xmb pops up on my screen it starts doing the flashing yellow then red light thing
i am addicted to this damn thing and i dont know what im going to do...is there anyway to fix it without sending it back to sony to repair it?

My man, sorry to say this but your ps3 is in heaven now. Other members also have had the same problem but it't nearly imposible to fix a problem that serious.

well from the post above, im guessing you might not be happy, i would try
-To reset the PS3, Turn it off, then hold the power button for 5 seconds, when your hear a second beep let go
-Check if it does this while playing a regular DVD or Cd
If the problem persists, well sony can help you out! Dont worry about time, my friend got his within a week!

You can still return it and get a brand new one IF you have the 2-year warranty. But, yeah you PS3 is dead. Sorry :(

Yes, I'm kinda unhappy because a similar thing happended to my ps3 and it was like new. I had money so I bought a new one, just the reminder makes me a bit bitter. But my new ps3 is working great:DD but UGABaller13 I would try what Scorpion said;).

thanks guys i guess i'll have to send it in......when i get it back will all my saved stuff still be there or will i have to beat all my games and start all my sport dynasty and franchise stuff over again?

if there is no way u can start up your ps3 and back up your files to a usb or something, then yeah, you have to start all over again.
and i hope you dont have any other OS installed in your ps3...else sony will make a big issue about it.

The PS3 turns on for a while right? I suggest taking and USB or mp3 player, stick in a USB slot and make copies of your savedata.
Go click Game saves, then Press Triangle, and click Copy, choose the USB devices, and done!

I would try cleaning the air intake holes that are all around the ps3 if they have become blocked it could stop sufficient air getting to the fan and around the system try using a hover or a can of compressed air on them to clean them out.

do i need to open up the ps3 system to do that or just clean from the outside, cuz i have gotten a cloth and tried to clean the whole thing and there is no dust on it whatsoever.....i have also tried blowing through the fan but nothing is working....thanks guys for all the advice but it looks like ill just have to send it in for them to fix.....and my mlb 08 is stuck in there and it wont stay on long enough for the eject to work
