Is the 80GB with MGS the same hardware as the older 80GB, with BC hardware and such, or is it a 40GB with a bigger drive?

Its a proper 80gb. The MGS4 box shows the PS2 games notice.
The rumor is though that it has the 65nm innards. I am guessing in the next week or so we will see leaked pictures of the box and see.

Another rumor is that this 80GB will use software emulation for the ps2 games, and the older 80GB's used hardware emulation.
Don't quote me on this, but thats what I read somewhere, not that it makes a difference as long as the games play...

^^ The older 80GBs used software emulation as well, actually.

Nah, the launch 60GB system used hardware to play the PS2 games, the 80GB used software as well. :(

Yeah, the MGS4 bundle is the way to go for your co-worker.

The 80gigs have always used software emulation.

The older 20gigs and 60gigs are the ones that used hardware emulation. Lucky me. *60gig owner*

I'm assuming for the 20gig, I don't actually know for sure.

Every system so far that can play PS/2 games is using a hardware GS chip and software emulation of EE, or is using hardware for both.

I haven't seen any lately but it's pretty clear when the 80 GB consoles are going to come out again.

Besides the 80GB PS3 being missing. What about the GTAIV PS3 bundle? I haven't seen or heard word of it outside announcement.

man i had to get a 40 gig after my 80 crashed. dam best buy didnt have it anywhere. the cool thing about it was that i still got my free movies, andf they refunded the difference, but still, it was very unfortunate
