**UPDATE**: I found out the problem was having my volume set to "-1" on the music player. As long as it was set to "-2, -1, +1, +2" the DTS audio cd would play static noise. Changing this back to "0" fixed the problem.
Thanks to Grinchy for figuring this out!

Okay, now I know I'm not going crazy because I have played my DTS audio cd's in the past and they sounded awesome. Now when I try to play them, all I get is static noise. I have tried all settings and nothing is working. I have Cd playback set to 44.1, 88.2, 176.4k. I have unchecked the Optical "manual" settings for 88.2 and 176.4 2-channel. I have tried everything i did in the past and nothing is working. My only guess is that an update has caused issues with DTS audio cd playback. Can someone try this in their ps3 to see if you get the same result? Or does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks
Tyson

Btw, I have an 80gb hooked up via optical toslink. Nothing has changed since i was last able to play the same cd. Any help is appreciated!

I am not very familiar with DTS cd's. If they existed then I think they are going on the decline and were replaced by DVD audio and SACD, which still fall short of mainstream.

It maybe that the ps3 is unable to decode a DTS signal off of the cd. Perhaps you can try to output the ps3 using bitstream with only the DTS box checked. See what happens then. Just for the record, what CD is it?

if you are talking about the DTS 96/24 discs, my only disc (Queen - Night at the Opera) plays fine. I'll have to double check what my settings are though, whether i do Bitstream or Linear PCM via HDMI. It could also be an incompatibility with your receiver. Which receiver do you use?

I bet you this is what happened. You know when you're playing music or video and you press triangle? There is an option for volume. There is a middle option (or no change) then there's +1 +2 or -1 -2. Change it back to the middle option and let us know if that worked.

That happened to me once, I was so pissed off thinking that DTS CDs didn't work anymore. The second I changed the volume back to normal it was perfect again.

This happens for me with any CD now. PS3 Game, DVD Movie, Stored Music on the PS3...

I don't know what went wrong/how to fix it.

Sorry to kind of hijack the thread a bit, but it's related...

The same happened to me a couple a days ago. My wife was telling me that whenever she tried to play a CD she could only hear static noise. The problem was that my surround sound (basically I have the ps3 hooked up to it using a toslink connector) doesn't support higher sampling rates than 44.1khz I would suggest you to uncheck 88.2khz and 176.4khz but not from the optical connection but from the CD play options, and if your surround system supports higher rates try increasing one at the time. I'm at work and I don't have access to my PS3 so I don't remember if what I suggest it's possible as I wrote it but I hope it helps.

You have to turn off a couple of the audio output options. I have a couple and had this problem, and this fixed it.

Not in front of the ps3 to give you the exact options, but PM me if you want me to check.

Awesome! I'm really glad that fixed it for you.

I was at the point of wanting to punch something when mine was playing static even though I knew all my settings were right so I know how frustrating that can be. Good to know it's working again :)

I was unaware that the PS3 played DTS Audio CDs. I wonder why no DVD-Audio?

I'm having similar issues with streaming DTS encoded audio files from my network server. They are just .wav files and show up as PCM in the PS3 directory. I know it is an issue with the PS3 since they can stream fine through my D-Link DSM-320 and Denon receiver.
