I know I have heard many times that it is possible for the ps3 to read a file that is larger than 4 gb, its just external hard drives have to be formatted in FAT 32. I have a few mkv files that are about 4.5 gigs after converting them to vob and I was wondering how can I get the file onto the ps3 without having to split it. I tried copying the file over my wireless network with TVersity but everytime I try any file it says error occured during file transfer at about 90% so I have to think that it has a problem once it reaches that 4 gb mark. Also it takes about 3-4 hours to transfer the file up to 90% on my wireless network. I was wonderin if anyone could help me out with this.
Thanks ahead of time.

i've been using this little program to send large (8GB+) files to my PS3...it works GREAT....you run the program....drag the folder you want to share....then it gives you an HTTP address....you open up the browser on the PS3, type in the address given and download all the files....just make sure you close the program when you're done....
oh and btw....before you transfer....on your PC....rename the files to .mpeg for some reason .vob's would not transfer for me...but vob's named as .mpegs will work 100% fine....
edit: 1000th post!

Metfanant I tried what you said, but how do i get the ps3 to just download the file? When I type in the address it automatically tries to play it rather than asking me to download it, and then the file transfer quickly dies

Steve,
The "trick" Metfanant gave you is about the only way to play these files on the PS3. You will NOT be able to copy them to the PS3 itself as the file size limitation is inherent to the FAT32 file format itself, not the PS3. If Sony ever offers support for other disk formats (unlikely) then that limitation will go away but until then we're all stuck with that 4GB file size limitation. Them's the breaks, unfortunately. You're best (and only) solution to playing larger files on the PS3 is to stream them from your PC live using something like MediaLink, etc, or by using the hint he gave you to then access the file (stored on your PC) through the PS3's web browser. Sorry!

actually this is untrue....here is what you need to do....
re-name your .vob's to .mpeg....
drag the folder that contains the files to the program....
type the provided address into your PS3's browser....
navigate to the file you want to download...DO NOT click "x" click "triangle"...then on the right....go to "file" then "save as" or whatever the PS3 equivilent is (im at work now)....then it will download the full file....
I've used this to send all 10 episodes of Band of Brothers in HD (4+GB each file), and all 6 Star Wars films in HD (8+GB each)....follow my steps and you're golden i promise...

Just tried it again following your post to a T, and it worked great. Thanks, now to just figure out how to transfer the file quicker, uploading to the ps3 took about 3 hours for a 4.5 gb video

I also followed these steps down to the T and have been able to successfully copy over a .wmv file.
I am however, trying to download a .mpg file (it has been converted from a .mkv file using mkv2vob) and the new .mpg file is 4.6GB. I can press Triangle and see that the "Save Target" option is highlighted, but when I click on it, I get "An error occurred during the download operation. (80710028)." I am using a direct, wired connection to my Linksys router. Haven't made any changes in the router settings. I did disable the firewall on my laptop.
Can anyone help me with this? I will be glad to +rep you and such. Thanks.

Hi Steve,
I had the same problem as well... What I've done (not sure which step resolved the problem) is following:
1) I added the port 8192 to my "free" ports on y w-lan router
2) I resterted my router and re-connected PC and PS3
3) Afterwards I opend PS3 Media Center X went to: Settings->Software->Edit Settings and added the directories of the folders which contain the files which I want to download to my P3 (you make this in the section "Files - Server Settings" - > "Approved Download Directories").
4) Then I re-connected to the "PS3 Media Center X"-webpage in the PS3 browser
5) Download
That's all. I hope that helps...
Cheers,

ALL:
does anybody has a "recipe" for transferring large files (over 5 GB) from PC to the PS3? I normally use Media Center X for transferring files and it works so far. But once I try to "download" a HD movie (mostly around 5 GB) from my PC to the PS I get an error message (80.....).
Can somebody please help me on this?
Thanks
