I've been after a great Tennis game for sometime now, I liked the demo of Virtua Tennis but wasn't sure if to get it or not. Now after downloading the video of this, it looks beautiful and extremely fun!
The graphics look stunning in this over Virtua Tennis 3.
Plus Wimbledon starts on the 23rd I think! Ah It is, nice time for the release, on the 20th :D Wimbledon 2008: 23 June - 6 July

For anyone who enjoys competitive (vid) tennis, stop by the ITST. The site has hosted a true-to-life ATP and WTA Tour since the release of the original Top Spin game in 2003. The ITST - currently supporting TS1, TS2 (PC) and TS2 (Xbox 360) - will support Top Spin 3 for both the 360 and PS3 when the game is released in June.
If you would like to join, or learn more about the game's largest tour, click HERE. (http://www.intertopspintour.net/index.php?p=home_xb360&pf=xb360&gc=TS2&PHPSESSID=20325b87f208944e7a6e04c087f6fc2c)
One of my friends has been litereally obsessed with all the Top Spin games and I think he's ranked 25th now. I might sign up for Top Spin 3. Thanks, I had forgotten all about that place!

Well I was awaiting this for the 20th of June here in Australia only to be told the PS3 version has been delayed another month here in Australia.
I had this on pre-order for some time now for the PS3 (Nadal mainly), but considering it's getting delayed I may change it to X360 and pick up the Wii version for my nephew to play when he comes over. I can’t find any online confirmation although I spoke with one of the retailers roughly 10 hours ago.

Allright mate, ease up on the advertisement a bit now. Once it's ok, twice it's okish as it's a major site and there isn't much else around for people that play Top Spin. But three times with only posting to advertise your site is a big no no. You didn't even answer questions people had in this thread.

What a big steaming pile of ****! Im getting right p1ssed off with this.
Seriously gonna think about selling my PS if this carries on.
Right, Ive had a browse around and some people on the official TS forum say the World Tour is only on 360, however the Official Site mentions nothing of this, nor is it mentioned in any previews.
Anyway, Im getting my hands on this game tonight so I will be able to confirm for you.

Yeah that'd be good, add me sure. First time Ive played the series too, its not as hard as I was expecting, although Ive only played cpu. Might be different story online. The world tour looks to be a great feature. You play with the character you created in your career and you start off all 30 in attributes so only way to make your world tour player better is by doing your offline career. You get 10xp points every win, then you can add 2pts to whatever attribute you want, serve, power etc. Im liking this game very much. Graphics are top notch, playability is not to bad once you get used to it, I was doing L2 precise shots in no time. I advise to do the school, its very thorough, learns you the basics. My only gripe is the large install, 3.6gbs. All games seem to be going down this road.

Oh well, yet another disappointing title... First GRID, now this! I know my current lack of enthusiasm for gaming in general has something to do with it, but this is going straight on eBay.
In the reviews they say that you almost need to "un-learn" everything you ever did about previous tennis games, and they'd be right... It's awful - feels so disjointed. Almost like, you perform all of your moves before the ball actually lands, otherwise you get no return or a naff one. It just doesn't flow or feel intuitive at all. I had a go on Virtua Tennis on my mates 360 shortly afterwards, and as an accessible game, VT3 plops all over TS3. The nuances of TS3 mean you are really going to have to put some time and effort into it, and I just cannot be bothered.
Looks like GTAIV will be staying in the drive for a few more weeks now!

3585MB install.
Single Player 1 - 4, Network Players 2 - 4 of course. This is going to be fun doubles games.

vf-
June 20th, 2008, 04:19 PM
In a way yeah, I guess it's lobby based. There is a quick match entry, join one then the next screen pops up with the listed games (granted there wasn't many since this is just released) and create your own. Or browse by/create whatever game sets you'd like to play and so on.
I can't remember who I just played against. I used my own character, heh. You can really customize him/her. Hair, skin colour/freckles, eyes/colour, eyebrows, mouth, nose, chins, cheek bones, lips, beards, stubble, tattoos, hats you name it. Even mould the face, and so on. Got beat by who ever was playing Nadal then Federer. The controls are actually not that bad, it's all about timing. Mind you I've never played any of the previous Top Spin games, and have only played the Virtua Tennis 3 demo. I just can't get the power shots yet in TS3. I'm currently hitting way too softly.
I have to admit it's extremely fun online. I think I lasted almost 10 minutes each game. Very little lag. Only one pause or two during each game. Very little to have impact on the shots.
I also see you can buy your gear in career mode e.t.c. I haven't looked into it much, but I'd imagine there is lots of nice little things hidden away when I quickly glanced through some stuff. Nike, Adidas and so on. A lot of nice courts as well.

Im enjoying world tour, you get XP points after wins same as the career to improve your character. Im currently 52 overall (Start all stats 30). Give the game a chance Graham, it takes a while to get used too. Just because you suck at it doesnt mean its a bad/disappointing game. I wish the online set up was a bit better, private rooms, voice chat, 2 ps3 v 2 ps3 not 1 ps3 v 1 ps3 with 2 people on each ps3 like it is currently. Thats my biggest fault with the game. You can only play against your psn buddys not with them. But overall Its a decent game, best tennis game there is currently. 8/10.

Thats lag, either your connection or most likely the opponents connection. It's not frame rate related.

the career mode is excellent im currently playing my way through the junior se4ction soon to go up to the next level.
The gear shop is good, its separated into floors like a shopping centre and makes good use of the controls.
Shots are great and varied, i also like the fact that you can miss-time your shots rather than just being on rails like so many other games.

Sorry two2-times, I changed my pre-order I just wasn't feeling the X360 version of this title so I got the Wii version, to me it gives me the impression that I'm in control as where with the X360 version (and PS3 isn't that much different) had me feeling I was only watching but in no sense did I have actual control. I still prefer Top Spin 2 than this honestly although the original was a classic for me!
Timing is a major factor which honestly had me turn off the game on the X360 in a matter of 25 minutes, just utter regret and I hate how holding the button down for a few milliseconds more means you miss the shot or make a stupid one. Not for me.

Thanks for the framerate comments. I'm picking this up tomorrow with pretty high hopes.
So is this finally a tennis game where every shot isn't nearly perfect? In VT3, I don't think i've ever hit the net with a shot from the baseline. Rarely do i hit a shot wide either. The CPU has the same uncanny shot accuracy. I'd be quite glad to see this change.
A good tennis game needs unforced errors, something that VT doesn't offer. Also, I'd love to see fatigue play an acrual role, but I'll be happy enough if there are unforced errors that both the player and the CPU commit.

Yes, you can hit the net a lot. You or the CPU player and online. Low or high. Soft or hard shots. Done it myself with a small chip to try and get it just over the net and failed. You can even screw up your serves. Swing and miss. Faults and so on if your serve is too hard. Or the wrong angle and so on.
I love how if you get the serve right with plenty power, the Dual Shock 3 really rumbles as he whacks the ball. Where as a regular serve, no rumble.
You'll see at the end of each game, it lists all the stats you and the CPU/Online player played.
Has anyone pulled off any fancy hits? Hit the ball from behind as the ball heads between your legs while facing your opponent and such... I accidentally pulled that off and some other fancy one, can't remember. Fantastic game.
still not many people online at present...........

Today was the ship date for the game here in the States. My local Gamestop won't sell it 'til tomorrow. So most if not all Americans don't even have this game yet. I can't wait to get it. this game is wicked... hard as hell at first but after you get a hang of controls its great.
-can create your own dude and take him online.
-decent career mode.
-can team up with a mate on the same sofa and play doubles on line.
-the animations are very realistic, just watch the replays.
-gives you a lot of choice... you want to risk and hit the shot near the line... u can....
u want to risk and put extra power on the shot you can.... you want to serve using analog stick you can...
- there is no bs fantasy... no purple shiny balls depending on the shot you hit or whatever, no crazy jumps, as close to watching a real match on tv as any game managed to get so far.
just leveling my guy up then i will take him on line... anyone wants a match add me, my psn id is the same as my user name here.

Yup. i'm looking for a challenge, i've had many 3-0, 3-0 wins lately. Add me : Apathetically.

I got beat down 3-0, 3-0 twice but I deserved it for jumping straight online w/o even adding any points to attributes to my character. Trying to unlearn all the VT3 items because in that game you push the button to hit the ball where as this one you let go of the button to hit the ball. Footwork is key to get into position to hit a good ball. I like the concept of being able to hit a riskier shot by pressing the L2 button or a harder riskier shot by hitting R2. Gonna take a while to get used to this but it's going to be fun trying.

Is anyone successfully playing Top Spin 3 in 1080i?
I have my PS3 set up for 1080i (I've got the US media), but when I run Top Spin 3, it drops down immediately to 480i.
If I go into my settings and enable 720p, then it's not quite as bad, (drops down from 1080i in the PS3 menus to 720p when playing TS3), but still..not 1080i. What's up? MGS4 works fine in 1080i.
I do know the UK version of the game is limited to 720p..but the back of the US packaging claims 1080i support.
Anyone having luck?

Anyone know the maximum stats you can get on your own player. so i can plan what points to put where.
Can you get 90's across the board or even 100's?

I wouldn't mind getting this, still got VT3 on my waiting list though...
Do you think I should pick up VT3 for cheaper instead, or just go for TS3?
